Issues with v1.11

Reported issues using v1.11 of Genie Scout:

1. Genie Scout won't start (not even if I triple-click on it)
This has been reported only by people using Windows XP (SP doesn't matter I think).

2. Genie Scout will crash on launch: StackHash_41ea
This has been reported by people using Windows Vista/7 (32/64 bit doesn't matter I think).

3. Genie Scout will crash on launch: no other details
Some people reported that dual-core and quad-core machines have problem with this version of Genie, while it works fine on single-core. What about triple-core (huh)? Not sure if that's true though.

4. Loading error: Unknown person type: 83.
A user reported that this can happen when you overwrite the old Genie Scout folder with the new update, and if you first delete the old folder it works fine.

A user suggested that you can avoid this error if on game start "Add Key Staff" is off.

6. Inaccurate Rating Calculation
At least both 1.1 and 1.11 have broken player ratings when it comes to player footedness.
Contrary to the list of things in the UI that affect ratings, it does have weight (but consistency etc do not!), and it magically makes a two-footed shoddy keeper be shown as better as a one-footed great keeper. Seems to affect all positions. [more details]

7. CSV export: all in 1 cell
When trying to export a list of players, it doesn't save it properly; it fits all the columns in 1 cell instead. [screenshot]
This is an issue reported from previous versions, but thought I'd include it here as well.


What can you do for the appcrash issue until we have a new version:

1. Run Windows Update and update Java
This has been reported as helpful for one user only so far, didn't work out for the rest who tried.

2. Run the application as administrator if you are on Vista/7
This has been reported as helpful by a couple of users, don't know if it helped more.

3. Check if Windows Firewall is blocking the application from running
This has been suggested by one user, don't have any feedback on that yet.


EDIT: Eugene told me that he's unable to fix the problems if you don't provide your save games that can't be opened with v1.11. So, please upload your save games to any free file hosting site and provide link here. We're not sure what's wrong with the freezing/crash yet.

I have updated Java and turned off Firewall - nothing changed, still can't start file on XP

I have also tried turning off the firewall and everything else running at the same time, still no joy.

Before downloading the new version of Genie Scout, I deleted the old folder, so I did not overwrite the old files. I have also disabled windows firewall, I have updated Java to the last version and the message keeps appearing

Updated Windows, Java and Quick Time, doesn't work for me.
Run it with admin. right, still no do.

Hope that there's soon a solution..

any news if eugene is back to work allready or if we'll be wating for another couple of weeks ?

I have Win 7 64bit. So far i have update Java, run windows in msconfig mode (Turn off all non microsoft services), AV and AF off and try to run the program in compatibility mode with XP SP3 and Vista SP2 with out any luck.

I have also try GS on another Win 7 computer and GS is running fin there.

So now im out of idea!!


EDIT : I got my version to work. I just downloade GS 1.11 on my girl friends computer and donate some money for it.

A-nother one for #3 here, stam.

On a general point, and excuse my serial Luddism here, but I'm not 100% sure of how to run the application as the Administrator. As the only user account I created on getting my shiny computer-box, and the only option I have to log in upon booting up of aforementioned shiny computer-box, I had kind of assumed I would be the Administrator. Is this not so? And if not, would some kind soul take me through the steps of how to become l'Administrator for the purposes of this game? I'd be very grateful.

Yes you are the administrator mate, but Windows Vista/7 are stupid. So I think you can run an application as admin by right-click on the .exe file and select that option (run as administrator).

When I first start geniescout I get an error that says that the layout.dat file is being used by another process. It does go ahead and open but when I try to load a game it says "Access violation at address 004721E in module 'FMGenieScout.exe'. Write of address 00000004."

I have the ULA turned off but even if I run as administrator this still happens.

Any updates? I updated windows, java and quicktime and nothing. Can't even open the program. Stackhash error like everyone else with vista

Well, to help you all;

I did get the fault 3, Genie Scout will crash on launch, no other details.
I donated a few bucks, got the no-ad vers of genie, and it loads excellent! So its almost for sure that the fault is in the ads, if you ask me..

Only now i get the problem that i cannot search real players of the game (after load game and search, i get fake players who doesnt excist).

Hope this will help through out the update or somethin'.
