Disable Steam from running at start-up:

How do I stop Steam from running automatically when I start my computer?

With Steam open, click the Steam menu, and choose Settings.

Click on the Interface tab, and uncheck the box that says:

"Run Steam when my computer starts."

Stam: if things go well, I'll still be the same old crazy Stam
Mark: as in crazy inventive energetic or as in crazy senile and forgetful?
Stam: wtf mate, are you planning to visit me when you'll be 70? lol

I have a mac and I'm having some serious issues installing because of Steam.
I keep getting an error message saying "Unable to connect to the steam network. 'Offline mode' is unavailable because there is no steam login information stored on this computer.

What the hell happened to just installing from disc?

Please help, I am getting seriously frustrated!!

In order to install you have to download steam:
Download for mac here
Then you must make an account on steam, log into steam and voila, you can install.
You can play offline as well after having installed the game.

I've already done that. Steam is downloaded but when I try to open Steam, that's the message that's displayed.

I've noticed that some programs stop steam from opening. One example is PeerBlock. I think some anti-virus programs might affect it too.

Edit: Evo was faster :) So yeah, disable any peer-block porgram or antivirus.

I did some searching. Are you using a program called "peer-guardian"? You need to disable this as it blocks steam from connecting.
(Start Peer Guardian , control click on the icon in the Dock. Choose Disable Filters. Quit Peer Guardian. Try Steam again !)

if this is not the problem tell, and I dig some more around for you.

Don't think you need to uninstall your peer-blocker just make sure its not running in the background when you log in and connect to steam, end the peerblock program process in task manager if you have to. My Peerblock doesn't seem to affect steam if steam is already running, its only when you login to steam, think it has something to do with steam checking for updates.

Oh this is starting to really wind me up now.

I've disabled the filters on peer guardian (thanks for the tip), so I'm further into it now, but now the message is, "Could not connect to Steam network. This could be due to your internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info."

Obviously there's no problem with my internet connection because I'm on here.

I'm not the only person suffering today am I?!
