FA Cup 3rd Round – Southampton (A)

I decided to rest some of my key players ahead of Tottenham match and it was an exciting match which ended 4-2 victory to Man Utd.
Danny Welbeck gave Man Utd the lead just 45 seconds from the start of the match but it doesn’t take long before Rickie Lambert equalised in the 7th min with a header. Richard Chaplow then put Southampton ahead with a screamer from the edge of the area in the 35th min. Man Utd responded in the 39th min through Welbeck’s curling shot to make the score level 2-2 at half-time.
In the second-half, Man Utd kept their pressure on Southampton and in the 60th min Danny Welbeck completed his hat-trick with another superb goal from 18 yards out. Federico Macheda rounded the victory in the 86th min with a well executed finish.
Despite conceding two goals, I’m pleased with my youngsters performance today.

League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg – Tottenham Hotspur (A)

Line-Up: David De Gea, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Andre Ayew, Darren Fletcher, Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck
Subs Used: Ashley Young, Dimitar Berbatov
A good 3-2 victory putting Man Utd in a good position for the return leg.
Danny Welbeck continues his fine form by getting Man Utd ahead in the 10th min. A superb effort in the 29th min by Rafael van der Vaart from the edge of the area levelled the score. Phil Jones then put Man Utd ahead in the 50th min with a close range effort from Valencia’s corner.
Fletcher extends Man Utd ‘s lead further with a fierce shot in the 75th min. Van der Vaart grabbed a consolation goal for Tottenham in the 81st min but it was too little, too late as Man Utd hold on to the lead till the final whistle.
A good win. Hopefully the boys can keep their concentration and avoid complacency in the return leg.

A good 1-0 victory over Swansea although they should have scored more.
Nemanja Vidic the only scorer with a well timed finish from close range in the 25th min from Nani’s corner.
Man Utd had plenty of chances to score but they did not convert it into goals.

Premier League – Queens Park Rangers (H)

Man Utd extend their lead in the league table with a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney gave Man Utd the lead with a curling shot from the edge of the area which curled past the goalkeeper in the 24th min. Danny Welbeck doubled Man Utd’s lead in the 30th min.
Queens Park Rangers got their consolation goal through Shaun Derry in the 43rd min. Queens Park Rangers were reduced to 10 men when Adrian Aldrete received his second yellow of the night.
Man of the Match: Wayne Rooney

A thrilling match that went into extra-time but it was Man Utd who are through to the League Cup final.
Man Utd started well and had plenty of chances but a great goalkeeping by Gomes prevented the goals. It was however Niko Kranjcar who gave Tottenham the lead with a powerful close range effort in the 70th min to level the score 3-3 in aggregate.
The match then went into extra-time and Phil Jones wasted no time by scoring in the 97th min with a close range finish from Valencia’s corner. Javier Hernandez then put Man Utd ahead in the 104th min but Luka Modric equalised instantly minutes later with a superb effort from the edge of the area leaving De Gea no chance.
Tottenham needed one more goal to put the match into shootout but Man Utd hold to the 5-4 aggregate till the final whistle.
An entertaining match and pleased with the boys fighting spirit.

Another good fighting spirit by Man Utd players winning this game 1-0 to progress to the next round.
Man Utd had been trying to break the deadlock and with the game nearing an end, substitute Dimitar Berbatov scored from close range to give Man Utd the victory in the 82nd min.
The match also saw Neven Subotic making his first Man Utd debut.
