After that ?? who knows maybe top 10 and maybe more.

Southampton have come out with high hopes with the new manager against Rotherham.

Just after 20 minutes of play Lambert scored twice for Southampton, the end of the first half approaching nearer and Rotherham pulled one back, the first half ended with Southampton in front with a goal.

Rotherham manager was not pleased having so many chances he felt that they should at least be a draw.
As Southampton come out onto the pitch Roberto Miali takes out Boruc and replaces him with Kelvin Davies.
Just 15 minutes into the second half Puncheon gets in a splendid strike, making 3-1 for Southampton,it was a tight match through out but Puncheon managed to get the 4th goal in on 90 minutes, and another on 2nd minute of stoppage time finishing the game 5-1 to Southampton.

    Southampton kick off the season.

    Southampton 0-1 Everton (Premier Division)

A potentially serious injury suffered by Everton's Leon Osman overshadowed events on what was a hard and bouncy surface at St. Mary's Stadium.

Striker Victor Anichebe gave Everton the lead with a real poacher's effort from 21 metres in the 78th minute.

Both teams had a number of attempts at goal, which promised much, but the quality of finishing was poor throughout.

Player of the Match: Phil Jagielka (Everton)

Southampton 1-0 Charlton Athletic (Capital One Cup 2nd Rnd)

A potentially serious injury suffered by Charlton's Ricardo Fuller overshadowed events on what was a cold and clear evening at St. Mary's Stadium.

Southampton's winner came through Guly do Prado as he seized on Danny Hollands' mistake to score a shot from 21 metres. It was a superb solo effort and do Prado looked delighted. Charlton Athletic were nearly gifted a goal on 45 minutes through José Fonte's lapse in concentration but they failed to capitalise on the opportunity presented to them.

Southampton had a number of attempts at goal but their profligacy meant they didn't score as many as they maybe would have liked.

Player of the Match: Guly do Prado (Southampton)
    Attendance: 16,887

Manager of Southampton changed the formation from a classic 442 to a 4-4-1-1 taking of Lambert for the next match against Manchester United and replacing him for Ramirez and positioning him just behind the striker and it paid off sending them to the next round.

Stay tuned for the next match against Manchester United.
