Real Names Fix Instructions

How to fix fake competition and club names in FM 2019

  1. Quit the game (if it's open).

  2. Extract the contents of the pack you downloaded from here to a temporary location. You'll need them for step 6.

  3. Find the 1930 folder.
    Windows:
    \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2019\data\database\db\1930\
    Mac:
    /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2019/database/data/db/1930/

  4. Open the lnc folder and then enter the all sub-folder.

  5. Delete the following 3 files:
    • fake.lnc
    • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    • nleague.lnc

  6. Move Daniel-Stam FM19 Fix.lnc and Daniel-Stam FM19 Club Names.lnc inside this all folder.

  7. Go 2 folders back to find the edt folder.
Open it and then enter the permanent sub-folder.

  8. Delete the file "fake.edt".
This will fix Danny Blind from getting renamed to Jan Jansen.

  9. Again go 2 folders back, this time to find the dbc folder.
Open it and then enter the permanent sub-folder.

  10. Delete the following 3 files:
    • brazil_kits.dbc
    • forbidden names.dbc
    • Licensing2.dbc
This will prevent Brazilian clubs from reverting to 3-letter names and will allow certain kits to be visible again.

  11. Open the game and enjoy Football Manager 2019 with real names.

IMPORTANT: If your saved game was started before the 19.3.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 1910 folder as well! In similar fashion, if your saved game was started before the 19.1.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 1901 folder too!

For reference, the folder structure of the path you need to apply the fix is as follows:
  • 1930
    • 1930_fm
    • dbc
      • permanent
        • brazil_kits.dbc
        • forbidden names.dbc
        • Licensing2.dbc
        • ...
      • temp league fixes
    • edt
      • permanent
        • fake.edt
        • ...
    • lnc
      • all
        • fake.lnc
        • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
        • nleague.lnc
        • ...
      • greek

Brazilian clubs have three-letter names in my game. How to fix?
Even though Brazilian club names are fixed in our files, the game will continue to show the 3-letter name instead of the full name. That is due to certain dbc files that affect them when you save your game for the first time. You need to start a new save AFTER applying this fix (in full), for Brazilian team names to be correct.

I applied the fix, but I'm still seeing some wrong club names.
During career game set up, you will still see incorrect names for three Spanish clubs, but once you select your club and start playing, the names will be correct.

Don't like a name? Change it!
Open the fix file in a text editor such as Notepad, search for the name you want to change, change it, and save. It's really that simple. The fix will apply the next time you start FM19.

Where is Application Support folder on Mac OS X
Mac users who have trouble locating their Application Support folder, please follow these steps:
  1. Open the "Go to Folder" menu
  2. Enter the path of the Application Support folder
  3. Copy the following path and paste it into the "Go to Folder" input field.
    ~/Library/Application Support
  4. Finally click "Go" to go to the folder.

Hi all, I started this namefix file for my own purposes. I felt the versions on Sortitoutsi were messy and they overcomplicated information, and I set out to simplify names for instant recognition. It runs largely in line with common usage in British media.

So, the above is why Borussia Dortmund takes the short, common name Dortmund; that is why Sporting Lisbon is used rather than Sporting Clube de Portugal; that is why Palmeiras does not have the prefix "Sociedade Esportiva" before the name; that's why I don't use "Associazione Calcio Milan" and "Football Club Internazionale Milano S.p.A." when everyone calls them Milan and Inter; that's why accents are not used - these are just conventions in English.

I'm not saying it's "right" in Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Italy or anywhere else for that matter. But they're "right" for me.

Some may not agree with the results, but it's how I like it. The beauty of the namefix files is being able to change things yourself with little effort - all you need to do is open the files in Notepad, most of the work is done for you.

Stam asked me if I would like to put these files on his website, because his original project was out of date and the author had gone AWOL, so I agreed. But this is the point where I step off - so please message Stam if you wish to have things changed on this page.

I will continue updating and improving my files, and make them available elsewhere. But I will not change anything unless there is something fundamentally wrong with the information my files contain - like missed name changes, phoenix clubs and rebranding etc. Thanks guys.

I agree with LLovely. If this is a real name fix it should actually use the real club names. No abbreviations or just city names. I also don't think they should be anglicized either.

But still appreciate the work you've done

Hello I really appreciate the work. I still find it a bit sad that you only take the short names of the clubs... A lot of the names are just the City Names of those clubs... Dortmund should be = Borussia Dortmund , Liverpool = Liverpool FC , Milan = AC Milan, MaU = Manchester United and so on...

I think the best name for brazilian league is "Campeonato Brasileiro", because it's the name we use here. =)

I can't find the Football Manager 2019 folder inside the Steam folder.

Ok, I answer to myself. I have installed the game in another Hard disk.

@Miguel: We'll change that in the next version.

@DeepSpace: We'll roll out an update soon.

@Joao: I'll investigate this issue over the weekend.

My team's name is Sporting Clube de Portugal (Sporting CP) not Sporting Lisbon.

Real Betis in la liga are still named incorrectly.

UEFA Nations League is still called "European International League"

The brazilian teams are ok, but the colors are still random (per example Palmeiras is red when it should be green)
