Football Manager 2020 Data Updates - Football Manager 2020 Real Names Licence Fix
Welcome to Real Names License Fix for Football Manager 2020 by FM Scout. This is an extremely comprehensive name fix that first appeared here since 2013.

You don't need to start a new save for this to take effect.
With the exception of Brazilian clubs and Juventus.

This is an essential add-on for FM 2020. Due to licensing issues, FM20 contains fake names for a number of competitions, clubs and awards. With this add-on, you can fix that and enjoy FM 20 with real names.

Updated on March 1st, 2020.

  • All major leagues names

2020 Name Fix Preview

If you find errors in translation / names or need a fix for other club / league / competition names, please post a comment below and I'll try my best to update these files.

Real Names Fix Instructions

How to fix fake competition and club names in FM 2020

  1. Quit the game (if it's open).

  2. Extract the contents of the pack you downloaded from here to a temporary location. You'll need them for step 6.

  3. Find the 2040 folder.
    \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2020\data\database\db\2040\
    /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2020/database/data/db/2040/

  4. Open the lnc folder and then enter the all sub-folder.

  5. Delete all files you can find in there, particularly the following 3 files:
    • fake.lnc
    • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    • nleague.lnc

  6. Move FM20 Fix by FMScout.lnc and FM20 Club Names by FMScout.lnc inside this all folder.

  7. Go 2 folders back to find the edt folder.
Open it and then enter the permanent sub-folder.

  8. Delete the file "fake.edt".
This will fix Niko Kovač from getting renamed to Max Freund, and Oliver Kahn from getting renamed to Jens Freund.

  9. Again go 2 folders back, this time to find the dbc folder.
    Delete the following 3 files:
    • zebra award.dbc
    • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
    • zebra turin new.dbc
This will fix Juventus from getting renamed to Zebre and prevent fake staff for them.

  10. Now enter the permanent sub-folder.
    Delete the following 4 files:
    • brazil_kits.dbc
    • forbidden names.dbc
    • Licensing2.dbc
    • Licensing2_chn.dbc
This will prevent Brazilian clubs from reverting to 3-letter names and will allow certain kits to be visible again.

  11. Open the game and enjoy Football Manager 2020 with real names.

IMPORTANT: The fix for Juventus and Brazilian clubs can only take effect with a new save because dbc files affect the saved game when it's first created.
IMPORTANT: If your saved game was started before the 20.4.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 2030 folder as well! Likewise, if your save was started before the 20.3.0 patch, do this to the 2010 folder too. And if it was before 20.1.0, do it to the 2001 folder.

For reference, the folder structure of the path you need to apply the fix is as follows:
  • 2040
    • 2040_fm
    • dbc
      • zebra award.dbc
      • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
      • zebra turin new.dbc
      • ...
      • permanent
        • brazil_kits.dbc
        • forbidden names.dbc
        • Licensing2.dbc
        • Licensing2_chn.dbc
        • ...
      • temp league fixes
    • edt
      • permanent
        • fake.edt
        • ...
    • lnc
      • all
        • fake.lnc
        • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
        • nleague.lnc
        • ...

I want to help with proper real names for my country.
We welcome everyone to suggest and contribute changes to this name fix. Feel free to send a PM to Stam or to pr0.

Brazilian clubs have three-letter names and Juventus is called Zebre in my game. How to fix?
Even though Brazilian club names are fixed in our files, the game will continue to show the 3-letter name instead of the full name. That is due to certain dbc files that affect them when you save your game for the first time. The same applies to Juventus. You need to start a new save AFTER applying this fix (in full), for Brazilian team names to be correct.

I applied the fix, but I'm still seeing some wrong club names.
During career game set up, you will still see incorrect names for three Spanish clubs, but once you select your club and start playing, the names will be correct.

Where is Application Support folder on Mac OS X
Mac users who have trouble locating their Application Support folder, please follow these steps:
  1. Open a Finder window
  2. Press CMD + Shift + G on your keyboard to open the “Go to folder” window
  3. Type: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 20xx and press “Go” or hit enter

Don't agree with a name? You can change it.
If your opinion for a name change isn't widely accepted, it's advised to change the name yourself.
Open the fix file in a text editor such as Notepad, search for the name you want to change, change it, and save. It's really that simple. The fix will apply the next time you start FM20.

I started a save and Zebre was Juventus I checked then I loaded the game up today and it’s gone back to Zebre checked the folders and it’s gone back to how it was before I deleted the files so now Juventus won’t be Juventus until I start a new game

Just add in your club names file
    "CLUB_NAME_CHANGE" 43457016 "Juventus B" ""
    "CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 43457016 "Juventus U23" ""

  • Bartdude's avatar
Very handy but it would make sense to include a "read me" file in the download, so we wouldn't have to refer back to here ??
  • Pallepop's avatar
The Name Zebra is still active when you create the game, but the real name is working when your game is ready to play.

U23 is still called Zebrau23 after the name fix

Followed all the instructions and nothing changed. Done the same in the 2000 folder and still no change. Fairly simple instrutions to follow so not sure what I could of done wrong :(

@WangZ1ggy, Yes every change you make on the 2001 folder, do the same on the 2000.

    @ZeroStars, steam -> football manager 2020 -> right click -> manage -> browse local files -> data -> database -> db. Voilà!
  • ZeroStars's avatar
I don't have a common after the steamapps, so no 2001 file
  • WangZ1ggy's avatar
@pr0 yea I did to the 2001 file may be I have to do to the other one as well ?
  • pr0's avatar
@WangZ1ggy, have you gone through Step 4 & 5? The lnc files cause this issue.
  • WangZ1ggy's avatar
@pro followed all steps Juventus file fixed but German national team still using random players
  • pr0's avatar
@Joe.Bry & @zipygo make sure you do this (delete the "zebra" files) on both 2000 & 2001 folders. If you follow carefully every step, there is no possible way to fail it.

@turkeyfish_15, the "zebra turin fake staff.dbc" is the file that you need to delete for the Sarri & other staff names. The Juventus Stadium name is a fix to be done in our future update files. Also, please make sure to follow carefully every step as I mentioned above.

Keep in mind, for the Brazilian teams & the Juventus name & staff, you have to create a new game.
  • turkeyfish_15's avatar
Found issues with this as Sarri and Kovac are still fake named and the juventus stadium is still the Zebre stadium but everything else seems to be working
  • nestur's avatar
I have done all the procedure and still getting "Zebre" as Juventus name
  • zipygo's avatar
Having the same issue as @Joe.Bry
  • Joe.Bry's avatar
@pr0 I have done this, still appearing as "Zebre".
  • pr0's avatar
@Joe.Bry, once you delete/move the new files, make sure to close, re-open the game & make a new game.
  • Joe.Bry's avatar
Still getting "Zebre" as Juves name? Done this process for 2001 and 2000.
