Real Names Fix Instructions

We've put together a video tutorial for you. If you prefer text instructions, just keep reading.

How to fix fake competition and club names in FM 2022

  1. Quit the game (if it's open).

  2. Extract the contents of the pack you downloaded from here to a temporary location. You'll need them for step 6.

  3. Find the 2240 folder.
    Windows:
    STEAM

    \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2022\data\database\db\2240\
    EPIC GAMES

    \Program Files\Epic Games\FootballManager2022\data\database\db\2240\
    Mac:
    STEAM

    /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2022/database/data/db/2240/
    EPIC GAMES

    /Users/Shared/Epic Games/FootballManager2022/database/data/db/2240/

  4. Open the lnc folder and then enter the all sub-folder.

  5. Delete all files you can find in there, particularly the following 3 files:
    • fake.lnc
    • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    • nleague.lnc

  6. Move FM22 Fix by FMScout.lnc and FM22 Club Names by FMScout.lnc inside this all folder.

  7. Go 2 folders back to find the edt folder.
Open it and then enter the permanent sub-folder.

  8. Delete the file "fake.edt".
This will fix Niko Kovač from getting renamed to Max Freund, Oliver Kahn from getting renamed to Jens Freund, and a couple of more people.

  9. Again go 2 folders back, this time to find the dbc folder.
    Then enter the permanent sub-folder.
    Delete the following 6 files:
    • zebra award.dbc
    • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
This will fix Juventus from getting renamed to Zebre and prevent fake staff for them.
    • brazil_kits.dbc
    • forbidden names.dbc
    • Licensing2.dbc
    • Licensing2_chn.dbc
This will prevent Brazilian clubs from reverting to 3-letter names and will allow certain kits to be visible again.

  10. Open the game and enjoy Football Manager 2022 with real names.

IMPORTANT: The fix for Juventus and Brazilian clubs can only take effect with a new save because dbc files affect the saved game when it's first created.
IMPORTANT: If your saved game was started during the 22.3.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 2230 folder as well! And if started before the 22.3.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 2210 folder!

For reference, the folder structure of the path you need to apply the fix is as follows:
  • 2240
    • 2230_fm
    • dbc
      • permanent
        • zebra award.dbc
        • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
        • brazil_kits.dbc
        • forbidden names.dbc
        • Licensing2.dbc
        • Licensing2_chn.dbc
        • ...
    • edt
      • permanent
        • fake.edt
        • ...
    • lnc
      • all
        • fake.lnc
        • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
        • nleague.lnc
        • ...

I want to help with proper real names for my country.
We welcome everyone to suggest and contribute changes to this name fix. Feel free to send a PM to Stam or to pr0.

Brazilian clubs have three-letter names and Juventus is called Zebre in my game. How to fix?
Even though Brazilian club names are fixed in our files, the game will continue to show the 3-letter name instead of the full name. That is due to certain dbc files that affect them when you save your game for the first time. The same applies to Juventus. You need to start a new save AFTER applying this fix (in full), for Brazilian team names to be correct.

I applied the fix, but I'm still seeing some wrong club names.
During career game set up, you will still see incorrect names for three Spanish clubs, but once you select your club and start playing, the names will be correct.

Where is Application Support folder on Mac OS X
Mac users who have trouble locating their Application Support folder, please follow these steps:
  1. Open a Finder window
  2. Press CMD + Shift + G on your keyboard to open the “Go to folder” window
  3. Type: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2022 and press “Go” or hit enter

Don't agree with a name? You can change it.
If your opinion for a name change isn't widely accepted, it's advised to change the name yourself.
Open the fix file in a text editor such as Notepad, search for the name you want to change, change it, and save. It's really that simple. The fix will apply the next time you start FM22.

Hi all. I went to start a new save and the real name fix (Zebre and Champions Cup etc) has been removed after the winter update. I followed the steps again, as outlined above by removing the new files and simply putting them back in. Didn't seem to work. Anyone else having these issues and maybe have a working solution? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Brazilian Clubs back to 3-letter-words since the Winter Update (2230) even after applying the 2 files in the "\2230\lnc\all" folder. Anyone else having the same issue?

Hi, with the application of the patch, the name of the brazilian clubs has been applied back to the fakes name. The name in my save using 2210 ddb were fine before the patch. Is this a known issue ?

edit : ok for other people who might encounter the issue you just need to delete again licencsing2.dbc file, it is pulled back in all database folder by the patch :)

Hello. I have noticed that there's a file named licensing.dbc in the dbc folder that was installed following the 2330 update. Should that file be deleted while applying the update? Can anyone see what the contents of that file are?

I made some adjustments to the greek version of the competition fixes, since there were some translation mistakes and I also removed unecessary translations that aren't used.

Anyone know if it is possible to fix the names on the xbox pc version?

You need to delete all the name fixes for Gibraltar. Team names are old or wrong and the competition names are in Spanish and wrong. 'Manchester 6' is the most irritating.

For some reason the Premier League fix hasn't worked. All of the team names and other leagues have worked fine and I followed all the steps precisely, but the Premier League just hasn't changed.

Is there any way that it can be fixed?

Hi, I think this patch is awesome. I was wondering if there exists a way to use the patch for people who is trying the game before purchasing it (games installed out of Steam or Epic Games).

    Best regards

Hi, sorry to ask a dumb question, but I applied this fix prior to my save, however I've just checked and all of the previously deleted files have returned. Strangely, Juventus has stayed correct but all of the Brazilian teams have went back to three letters. Any ideas on how I can repair this?

@Jason290988 thanks for the database info, sorted now.
  • Jason290988's avatar
@tomelliott00 you have to do the fix for all versions that have been released for it to work with previous saves. if you've only done it for the latest release (2210) then it will only work for new games. You need to do the exact same thing for the other versions (2201 + 2200) for it to work with previous saves

In my /Database/DB folder I have 3 folders called 2200, 2201, 2210. Is it only the 2210 folder I apply these changes to, and leave the other two folders alone or change them too? Thanks.

For some strange reason everything works but I get some bits like the QF comes up as Quart de Final? and only parts of the Premier League works like Player of the Month but the Premier League stays as Premier Division
  • tomelliott00's avatar
can anyone help, the name fix has worked if i start a new save but it has not worked with my current save
  • iekue's avatar
Great fix, however the Holland national team isnt enabled in this fix, it only has the Japan and Germany commands in the file ive noticed, so the Holland team fix needs to be added. I've edited it myself using the original fake.lnc file (copying the Holland command and changing the 1 to 0), but it should be in this fix file as well.

what is wrong... i started my save month ago and this fix worked fine, now i loaded the game and i don't have the real names somehow. I installed current fix and still it doesn't work for me...

Bad short name polish club Puszcza Niepołomice", short name in game is "Puszcz" without "a"

Short name Termalica Bruk-Bet Nieciecza should be "Bruk-Bet" no "Bruk-B"
  • Krazy-8's avatar
How do I do this in the gamepass version?

@Reacon, I am playing with FME-Zealand's skin and the names are showing correctly for Juventus. Maybe it's because you are using the default skin (just checked and with the default skin the names are truely ZEB). Maybe it's hardcoded, but it has nothing to do with the real names fix.

@MattyPH + @leonardowilson, maybe you both should take a look at the video too.

@FzReal + @fiodor101, we are waiting for a hotfix from SI. There is a bug right now, where newly created people randomly don't show up. Not an issue of the real names nor my personal packs.

@stockport TID, you have to do this again for the "2210" folder. If you are still using a save game that was created during the beta, you have to re-apply the same changes in the "2201" folder.

@ManicBro, If you are still using a save game that was created during the beta, you have to apply the changes in the "2201" folder.
