Real Names Fix Instructions

We've put together a video tutorial for you. If you prefer text instructions, just keep reading.

How to fix fake competition and club names in FM 2022

  1. Quit the game (if it's open).

  2. Extract the contents of the pack you downloaded from here to a temporary location. You'll need them for step 6.

  3. Find the 2240 folder.
    Windows:
    STEAM

    \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2022\data\database\db\2240\
    EPIC GAMES

    \Program Files\Epic Games\FootballManager2022\data\database\db\2240\
    Mac:
    STEAM

    /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2022/database/data/db/2240/
    EPIC GAMES

    /Users/Shared/Epic Games/FootballManager2022/database/data/db/2240/

  4. Open the lnc folder and then enter the all sub-folder.

  5. Delete all files you can find in there, particularly the following 3 files:
    • fake.lnc
    • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    • nleague.lnc

  6. Move FM22 Fix by FMScout.lnc and FM22 Club Names by FMScout.lnc inside this all folder.

  7. Go 2 folders back to find the edt folder.
Open it and then enter the permanent sub-folder.

  8. Delete the file "fake.edt".
This will fix Niko Kovač from getting renamed to Max Freund, Oliver Kahn from getting renamed to Jens Freund, and a couple of more people.

  9. Again go 2 folders back, this time to find the dbc folder.
    Then enter the permanent sub-folder.
    Delete the following 6 files:
    • zebra award.dbc
    • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
This will fix Juventus from getting renamed to Zebre and prevent fake staff for them.
    • brazil_kits.dbc
    • forbidden names.dbc
    • Licensing2.dbc
    • Licensing2_chn.dbc
This will prevent Brazilian clubs from reverting to 3-letter names and will allow certain kits to be visible again.

  10. Open the game and enjoy Football Manager 2022 with real names.

IMPORTANT: The fix for Juventus and Brazilian clubs can only take effect with a new save because dbc files affect the saved game when it's first created.
IMPORTANT: If your saved game was started during the 22.3.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 2230 folder as well! And if started before the 22.3.0 patch, you need to apply this fix to the 2210 folder!

For reference, the folder structure of the path you need to apply the fix is as follows:
  • 2240
    • 2230_fm
    • dbc
      • permanent
        • zebra award.dbc
        • zebra turin fake staff.dbc
        • brazil_kits.dbc
        • forbidden names.dbc
        • Licensing2.dbc
        • Licensing2_chn.dbc
        • ...
    • edt
      • permanent
        • fake.edt
        • ...
    • lnc
      • all
        • fake.lnc
        • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
        • nleague.lnc
        • ...

I want to help with proper real names for my country.
We welcome everyone to suggest and contribute changes to this name fix. Feel free to send a PM to Stam or to pr0.

Brazilian clubs have three-letter names and Juventus is called Zebre in my game. How to fix?
Even though Brazilian club names are fixed in our files, the game will continue to show the 3-letter name instead of the full name. That is due to certain dbc files that affect them when you save your game for the first time. The same applies to Juventus. You need to start a new save AFTER applying this fix (in full), for Brazilian team names to be correct.

I applied the fix, but I'm still seeing some wrong club names.
During career game set up, you will still see incorrect names for three Spanish clubs, but once you select your club and start playing, the names will be correct.

Where is Application Support folder on Mac OS X
Mac users who have trouble locating their Application Support folder, please follow these steps:
  1. Open a Finder window
  2. Press CMD + Shift + G on your keyboard to open the “Go to folder” window
  3. Type: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2022 and press “Go” or hit enter

Don't agree with a name? You can change it.
If your opinion for a name change isn't widely accepted, it's advised to change the name yourself.
Open the fix file in a text editor such as Notepad, search for the name you want to change, change it, and save. It's really that simple. The fix will apply the next time you start FM22.

@paullexandre51, a new fix is coming in the next days with fixes in the comps you mentioned. I have already spotted these things you have mentioned, thanks!

@Romano.338, you can always right click on the game on steam, properties, local files, verify integrity of game files..., to bring back the default files of the game, so if you want, you can get rid of the real names files.

@fat koala, thanks, will check them!

    Hey, very nice fix
But a few suggestions: a lot of the Finnish teams don't need the city name in their short name, (e.g. FC Honka Espoo can just be FC Honka), Ekenäs Tammisaari (Finland) is just Ekenäs IF or EIF, Tammisaari is just the Finnish name of the town.
And afaik the Korean leagues are 1 & 2 instead of Classic & Challenge?
  • paullexandre51's avatar
Hello, Portuguese League's name are not not correct
The 1st Division it's currently called "Liga Bwin", the 3rd Division is called Liga 3.

But the best option would be to call them Liga Portugal 1, Liga Portugal 2, Liga 3 and Campeonato de Portugal

It changes language for a lot of stuff. I don't play the game in english, but now countries are in english (both in news, or profiles), "friendly" appeared when I play a friendly, "team of the week" as well,...
Annoying to have a game in 2 different languages

@Matt A, it has nothing to do with the real names fix Matt. The game "stretches" the names so they can fit, I doubt there is a solution.
  • Matt A's avatar
@pr0 I'm seeing the same issue as @gannet18 i've changed the resolutions and the issue still is there
  • Matt A's avatar
There seems to be a problem with the team names on the Leagues in Focus screen, anybody else seeing this issue?
  • TheNotoriousPr0's avatar
    @wixta79, notepad/wordpad.

    @ChadCcfC1987, yes that's a known issue.

@gannet18, this is clearly because of the game or the skin (resolution?), but it has nothing to do with the real names. Most likely, they are automatically shortened, or else they wouldn't fit.

Where need i to look at to get the Japan team fixed and their players. The German team is fixed but the Japan team not yet. Dunno where to look to fix it. :(
  • wixta79's avatar
my files come as LNC files how do i open them?
  • gannet18's avatar
@pr0 Thanks for the names fix. When I am on the 'Leagues in Focus' page I can see that some team names are really shortened. For example if I add the MLS, New York City and New York Red Bulls just show as New Yo. This is the same for other teams in different countries. Is this an issue with the beta version or with this fix do you think?
  • ChadCcfC1987's avatar
does this still remove every clubs nicknames?
is there a work around that??
  • FzReal's avatar
@pr0 Thanks a lot. So i deleted all the files inside that Inc, All sub folder (also those canada, chinese team inc files) and only have now those 2 FM22 Fix by FMScout.lnc and FM22 Club Names by FMScout.lnc files there.

Will have to start a save soon to check everything out i guess. Again thanks, great job mate!
  • TheNotoriousPr0's avatar
@FzReal, step 5 is after step 4 that you forgot to mention:
"4. Open the lnc folder and then enter the all sub-folder.

    5. Delete all files you can find in there, particularly the following 3 files:
    fake.lnc
    lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    nleague.lnc"

You only need the FM22 Fix by FMScout.lnc and FM22 Club Names by FMScout.lnc inside the lnc -> all folder. You don't have to do anything with the greek folder.

@F3Artem, yes will be fixed thanks!

    @JAVENOVA, noted.

@kimdinho, the japanese players have nothing to do with the name fixes. They were always like that due to licensing issues. There were never players in japanese teams.
  • JAVENOVA's avatar
Barrow is just Barrow not Barrow Association
  • kimdinho's avatar
    Hi
    Great job like always.
But the japanese players in the Japanese league are all fake players? All the real players a missing?
  • F3Artem's avatar
Great job as always. One note, Metalist Kharkiv named "Metalist Kharkiv (EXT)", needs fixing, cheers
  • FzReal's avatar
Awesome job, thanks. By the way at step 5...
"Delete all files you can find in there, particularly the following 3 files".

So this means i can delete all those files up there? And what happens if i only delete those particularly 3 files? Also fine or? I mean what are those greek files if i may ask?

And about the Dutch team, i guess if i start a new save, i will see all their real players right?
  • Azeiteiro's avatar
Portuguese League now is Liga Portugal Bwin.

    Tks pr0
  • TheNotoriousPr0's avatar
    @Searley, Noted.

    @proton6, Noted.
  • proton6's avatar
Perth Glory nib Stadium is an old name . Its been HBF Park for 3 or 4 years now
  • Searley's avatar
Wigan & Charlton are incorrectly named.

They should have Athletic in their name not AFC
  • TheNotoriousPr0's avatar
Stadium names - Juventus name changes & Ajax staff will be fixed once the full game is released and the editor is available.

@gtalnz, noted and fixed for the next repack. Thanks!
