You can look at their key passes (where they originate, where they end up) and see whether they'll be playing a direct style of football or one which is more tiki-taka style. If the key passes are vertical, then you know it will be direct, cutting football; if they are horizontal, you'll know that it will be possession-based.That's the principle way that I use it.
