I started using Geniescout purely by CA/PA with FM10.
But that wasn't the best way of using it
Basicly the way I am using it now is as followed:
Sort players by best potential rating.
Look at their positions.
Look at their PA.
Then open their profile and show potential attributes.
Then ingame see if they fit the tactic, role and positions i use.
There can be players with a PA of 150-160 with stats in the correct places, that can give them a very high potential rating for certain roles. Which can make them very interesting players to get.
The reason for looking at positions and PA is cause of retrainability. If a player is a DM but you want him as a MC then due to having a higher PA retraining him will be easier since it will have lesser impact on his overall growth. A player with 200 pa will only lose a bit of his potential, while a player with 150 pa will lose quite a bit.
The role rating like false 9 or complete forward and such, is up to you if you want to use that function of geniescout. it's one of the few things i don't pay attention to.
In the end GS is just a tool to make it easier, to figure out, which players end up being really/or are good for the position you want/need. While doing the rest in FM.
hope this might help
