Well, i'm playing fm from 2007 til now, (before that i had a break after cm 2001-2002) the MAIN problem for me is, feeling of playing a scenario. I felt it in fm 2007, 2009 and now 2014 mostly. All versions have this kind of feeling but this one is so clear.
Playing against weaker team; scouted, calibrated, designed for easy victory. Conditions perfect, morale good, not having a 30 match winning streak or so, and match begins. And, find yourself in a situation that, 17th team of the league is winning by 3 goals heading to half time break. My guys tried to score but, i got at least 8 or 10 crossbar shots, one on one misses etc. have a 18 freekick, 16 decisions, 15 finishing dude never scores from freekicks, (like 3 per season or so) And exactly this point, i shout for wider, more direct play against a narrowed, contained little opposition, nope still they're the attacking ones. After that, check my teams ratings, fails etc. and switch some tired players etc. nope nothing changes. I change my tactical style so try to play a position ball with pace or slow/strong build. Nope doesn't work. Then i see that, the game wants me to lose this time. No matter what i change, if i sub messi on amc and ronaldo for right wing, pedro for left and benzema to forward, nope it's not gonna get me in a winning situation i know it. Because the difference between my players and the opposition is just like the messi - ronaldo - benzema kinda difference against the opposition. So it's like, SI wants to be the god upon us and give us some kind of destiny or something like that imo.
In league, i feel this a lot, but it's familiar to me. Lots of times i felt that, in real life, tv channels and contracts and UEFA and everything that represents modern football is to make money. So they alterating the leagues for excitement, there has to be competition to get us watch it. And FM 14 is just like that, it tries to alter everything beneath you, your calculations, your opinions and your plans. Like, you find a wonderkid after 2 seasons of searching, bought it and he just showed a great performance for 4-5 matches and bum he got injured for at least 2 months because of what ? Hernia ? ahahah and i just experienced a virus which got my player away from the field for 8 months ? it's kinda cancer or something i guess.
And, playing against a bigger team, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE ahahah. I try to not score a goal because when i do, my players start to get some red cards and weird stuff like they've never had play football before, and i lose it with bigger margains like 5-1, 6-1 etc. So never score against a bigger opponent lads.
I'm new to this forum and its my first post but I have been playing CM/FM for more years than I care to remember. I purchased FM14 when it was released and I must say...its unplayable. It has crashed over 40 times, regardless of updates (I have the latest patch), clearing the cache, verifying the game, deleting "preferences". Nothing works. It is simply unplayable, I have to save the game every week just in case a click of the mouse results in another dreaded crash dump.
In regards to the actual game, my major gripe is when the opposition lump the ball down the pitch, my CB's just look at each other, it bounces, their striker runs in and scores. I can have 3, 4 5, 6 defenders...to no avail. Long ball, bounce, goal. Also, when my wingers dribble..stop...kick the ball out of play or try a bizarre "kick against legs" tactic and it goes out of play...which is mystifying. Also...hitting the crossbar...whats all that about? Long range, usually from the wings, smashes the crossbar, GK rooted to spot.
It does have it plus points though and as a fan of the series, i will persevere with it. So frustrating though.
Well apart from experiencing many of all the niggles posted so far, I have to confess still enjoying to play FM2014, until last night: Norwich V. Blackpool, after 30 mins the score was Norwich 10 Blackpool 0. Every shot on goal went in. After 15 mins, I put another goalkeeper on, but nothing changed. I just dumped the game.
What I hate the most is this:
1: whenever you set tactics to rigid, be disciplined, the players play all over the pitch and not in their positions but when I do Be creative and expressive and more fluid, they just stay in the positions and do bugger all
2: if you are a team dominating the leauge (I am brighton) and I play against bottom of the table milwall, they beat me 3-0 but I had 30 shots with 17 on target and 10 hitting the woodwork.
3: finally most of my defenders, even if they are world class like Alaba,Cassilas,Mertesacker, Lahm! Hummels they all Act like retards and let in the most STUPID FU**ING GOALS and it made me so mad I hit alt f4 and played fm13 wich is a game that actually works properly
Here's a different kind of frustration - in the last game one of my defenders did the following:
- scored a goal;
- scored an own goal;
- conceded a penalty, injured the opposing striker and got a yellow card in the process;
- got a second yellow card for a foul, in which he injured himself (for 6 weeks).
Such a busy day at the office

Everytime I play against a big team, my players (especially my 2 fullbacks) are losing the ball ridiculously by trying to knock the ball past the opponent when the opponent is standing off, thus giving the opponent enough time to read it and take the ball. This is happening like 3-4 times per big match. They're not being pressured like I stated and their first touch/concetration/decisions is decent enough not to make such mistakes. They both have low 'important matches' and one of them has low pressure but I don't see the opposition making these idiotic mistakes (either big or small teams) with their less-competent players.

Probably has something to do with their important matches attribute in their hidden stats.
I think I have similar problems to what most have said, the main are as follows:
Wingers do nothing and wait to be closed down even when at the byline.
I create 5-10 scoring chances, and get no goals.
Shots are terrible - straight to keeper or MILES wide.
Full backs don't defend, they foul or let the player past.
Keepers pass straight to their striker, regularly.
Strikers just dont score.
I have tried many different tactics, all well trained and the same results apply.
BUT the worst thing is THAT SI ACTUALLY RELEASE THIS.
If any other major game maker were to read this they should absolutely make a game to compete with FM because this is now pure amateur. I can only assume that SI have lost some very important figures from their programming team. I don't understand how each patch / match engine can be so so bad - its as if they have started from scratch!

on the match day it hardly shows any of the actual match play unlike fm 12 if you get my meaning? that at the moment is my only concern with fm 14 and so much that i hardly play it
and when i do i just let my assistant manager take care of the games.

I've stopped playing too, the 14.2 patch didn't fix enough IMO, so I'm either waiting for another patch or FM15.

What about 'Knock ball around opponent' PPM? May be your FBs have them.
