Jorge Jesus Signs New Deal

Benifa manager Jorge Jesus has signed a new one year deal with the Eagles. The most successful manager in the Portuguese league committed his future to Benfica. Supporters of the club are said to be delighted with this news and are looking for both Domestic and European success for their club.

Jesus has taken charge of Benfica on 225 occasions winning 154 games, a win rate of 68%. He joined the club in June 2009 and has lead them to one league title, one Portuguese cup, here Portuguese League Cup and made it to a Europa League loosing 2-1 to Chelsea.

At a press conference inside the Stadium of Light Jorge Jesus told he clubs supporters to expect success as he hope to make it his most successful campaign with Benfica. However, he remained quiet on arrivals and departures during this window.

Benfica Sign Kampl

Benfica have officially announced the signing of 23 year old Slovenian, Kevin Kampl from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of £3.8 million. The deal was announced on the Benfica website earlier but now the player has completed his medical and signed his contract he is a Benfica player. Kampl took to twitter earlier to thank Slazburg and show his excitement for joining Benfica, "I would like to thank all the players and staff at Salzburg who have helped me develop as a player and now look forward to life at #Benfica"

Jorge Jesus also expressed his delight of completing the deal so quickly at his pre match press conference at the Stadium Of Light. Jesus was asked if Kampl would be in the team for Saturdays derby match against Sporting, "I don't believe Kevin will be in the matchday squad because he has not trained with the boys yet and it will take time to settle in here." The Eagles boss was also questioned on his targets for the upcoming season,"We have had a strong pre-season winning four of our six games loosing to Roma and Schalke who are really good teams. This season we hope to win the league title and advance into the latter stages of all cup competitions we are involved in"

Benfica travel to fierce rivals Sporting at the weekend to kick off their campaign. Sporting go into the game as slight favourites due to their home advantage but these kind of games are hard to predict. Meanwhile elsewhere Porto begin their defence of the title against Nacional and Braga face Estoril.

I saw some matches irl this season in Europa League of Salzburg and I really enjoyed their football style and Kampl was one of the best players. I really want to see how he plays in the game!

Mixed Month For Benfica

The first month of the Premiera Liga is over and surprize package Rio Ave lead the table. Title favourites Porto and Benfica lie in 5th and 6th respectively. Benfica started the season poorly with a 1-0 defeat to rivals Sporting. This happened on the same day that Benfica announced two signings from Red Bull Slazburg, midfielder Kampl(23) and defender Hinteregger(20).

Benfica then enjoyed a undefeated end to August. Next in the league were Belenenses at the Stadium of Light. Despite a shock lead at half time Belenenses were defeated 5-1 by a strong Benfica side who were eager to kick start their campaign. Another win followed against Maritimo with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The group stage of the UEFA Champions League draw also took place. Benfica were draw alongside French champions PSG, Greek champions Olympiakos and Spanish side Real Sociedad. Benfica will host Olympiakos on Matchday 1 of the competition.

Sporting Remain Top

Sporting have started the season vey well and are top of the table after six games with 13 points. Vit. Guimaraes have also been impressive so far after beating title favourites SLB. Benfica have had a shaky start but find themselves a point behind rivals Sporting despite loosing twice already this season.

Benfica began the month with an easy win against Olhanense. Benfica started quickly and found themselves 1-0 up through Oscar Cardozo after a cute finish from 9 yards out. Eduardo Salvio doubled the lead after a wonderful run, beating three players before chipping the goalkeeper. Olhanense began to attack more and were caught out on the break and Enzo Perez secured the three points for the Eagles.

Olympiakos travelled to Estadio Da Luz for the first game of this seasons Champions League. Inform Oscar Cardozo gave Benfica the lead with a powerful header from a corner. Benfica were comfortable for the first half but failed to create any clear chances. Olympiakos made them pay late in the second half as striker Nelson Valdez converted from six yards out

Benfica looked tired from their mid week game as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Vit. Guimaraes. Guimaraes took the lead five minutes into the game through winger Andre Andre. There lead was doubled ten minutes into the second half after a simple goal from Moussa Mazzoa. Benfica substitute Lima scored a consolation goal in the final minute of the game.

Benfica bounced back with a win against Rio Ave. Once again there was an early goal as Eduardo Salvio scored for the Reds. Oscar Cardozo scored another exceptional goal from outside of the box leaving the keeper with no chance. Cardozo grabbed another goal with a simple tap in from three yards out after good work from Salvio to create the goal.

Premiera League Update

The Premiera Liga is 8 games in and Sporting have remained at the top of the league. Benfica also have remained in third and have had a disappointing month. PSG beat Benfica 2-1 after a dominating performance and two goals from Cavani. Rodrigo scored for SLB but they failed to get another goal and earn a point in France. Benfica's poor Champions League form continued as they were beaten 2-0 in Spain by Real Sociedad leaving them bottom of the group.

Benfica's domestic form this month has good and started with a 1-1 draw with Academica. Oscar Cardozo gave the Reds the lead but Dady equalised for Academica. Benfica advanced to the next round of the Taca de Portugal after a 6-1 victory over Lusitania Lourosa. Now Benfica will now face Olhanense in the next round. Benfica ended the month with a 4-1 win over 12th place Vit. Setubal.
