Lower League Management - Finally Cracked?

November was a mixed bag of results, yes we got knocked out of the FA cup at the first round this time, which is always disappointing, even more so that it was to the team that knocked us out of the Capital One Cup first round also. Preston were too strong for us and they just brushed us aside with ease, we didn't show any resilience which is always disappointing!

However in the league, it does look like we had a rough time of it with 2 losses and a draw, but what is most important is those two wins. The competition in league 2 is the same every year, nobody is guaranteed promotion. The league is that close all it takes is a couple of strung together results and you're right in the mix, so as long as we keep picking up points we're never going to be a million miles away.

What is most pleasing is how we beat one of the leagues 'stronger' sides Scunthorpe 3-0, a magnificent result for the lads which will give them a boost of confidence, also the draw against Stevenage the game before was particular pleasing too. As they have a very strong team for a league 2 side.

As you can see from the league table below, having an 'ugly' looking month can actually be beneficial as long as you pick up the odd few points here and there, that is reflected below as we are currently in 6th place, although it is still tight early on we can push on from the fantastic start and hopefully finish in the top 7 come the end!


Overall we can't be too disappointed with how we've started life in League 2, we've upset the odds a wee bit as many had us tipped for relegation and we're earning a lot of plaudits and admirers along the way, the crowd size is beginning to increase, now pushing the likes of 4,000 every match which is also very satisfying.



This month it wasn't difficult at all to choose, there was one man who just stood out from everyone else and had an absolute belter of a month and that man is Alfie Kane, I threw him in at the deep end to see how he'd cope and he hasn't disappointed me at all. He's done everything what has been asked of him every game and I couldn't be happier. He has gelled very well with Aloi and McPhail and has formed a formidable partnership with them!

Going good in the league and some nice graphics. Maybe put the results in the centre? :-)

Just typical that Birmingham City would release a good youth player. Love the story so far!!!

Kidderminister manager Andy Thorn has made fantastic progress so far with the Harriers. He has led the team to a Skrill Premier title as well as a FA Trophy win and also is on course for a playoff spot so far in the league.

So it has come as no surprise that interest has mounted in him in the recent weeks, two sides without a manager Port Vale and Dunfermline are reportadly interested in the English-mans services.

Port Vale who have been recently relegated to League Two are currently struggling to find form ever since getting relegated were a sure thing to get promoted again but the side currently lay in 22nd in the League, so Thorn would essentially be moving to a side which is at the moment below his current side Kidderminster.

Also the other club reportedly interested in Thorn is that of Dunfermline, they are a Scottish team that currently play in the Scottish Championship, they are currently in mid table and have a very strong squad for the league that they are in, they have very good youth prospects so it could be an option for Thorn.

Leading bookies such as Bet365, William Hill, Betfair and SkyBET are all odds on for Thorn to leave his post and join one of the two teams, having the prices at:

December was a much better month in terms of results for Kidderminster, they only managed to register a single defeat in the half a dozen games played, drawing two and winning the other three. Promotion form and still keeping pace with the top three!

The first game of the month saw us come up against one of the leagues stronger outfits Chesterfield, bags of talent on display in their starting XI. The likes of Jermaine Johnson, Gary Roberts, Michael Chopra and Iain Hume all quality players for the league they're in. It was a humbling defeat, they were too strong defensively on the day thanks to Lee's superb display in goal, life made harder by club captain McPhail also seeing red, so all in all it wasn't to bad of a day even though we tasted defeat.

The two draws of the month against Wycombe and Northampton I wasn't particularly concerned about, we went down both times 1-0 and managed to nick a point late on. Although I'd much rather prefer three, I'd rather have one than none!

I was very pleased with the three wins we managed to pick up in the league, all be it a close afair against Pompey, we managed to nick three points late on and have no established a bit of a name for ourselves for being the 'Manchester United of League 2' nicking goals in stoppage time, I'm not bothered how or when we score them as long as they come! The other two victories that against Exeter and Newport County were very pleasing and as the scoreline indicated we dominated throughout both games. Keeping possession magnificently and making the most of the chances created.


Overall we can be very pleased with how December has gone, we've got 11 points from the 18 available to us, we're well on course for a successful season, and sitting comfortably in the league as it stands. Hopefully in January we'll be able to continue our fine form!



December for me was all about our defence, we performed admirably and one man stood out, and that was Cheyenne Dunkley. His defensive displays were incredible, he's really developed his game since I've got here and he deserves the plaudits, he has been a pivotal part of our defence this season and I hope that his form can continue!

Kidderminster Harriers can today confirm that Crewe's AJ Leitch-Smith has joined on a loan deal until the end of the current season.

Leitch-Smith who has been a key player for Crewe ever since breaking into the first team has been deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Michael Appleton and found himself loan listed. However he wasn't their long because Kidderminster Hairrers boss Andy Thorn has managed to snap up the young striker on a loan deal, which will see AJ stay at Aggborough until the end of the season with the option to a permanent buy once his contract runs out.

AJ Leitch-Smith has recently spoke to the official harriers website just after signing and had this to say:

"I wasn't getting game time at Crewe and that was disappointing for me, I always want to be out there on that pitch playing and giving it my all. I was frustrated by the lack of game time and now the gaffer here has given me a chance and I want to repay the faith he has in him by firing Kidderminster to League One! There's some great players and hopefully I can help add to what is already here!"

Leitch-Smith will wear the #19 jersey until the end of the season, we wish him and the Harrier's the best of luck for the end of the season.
