2013/2014: The Stats

Season Recap:
It was a very successful debut season for 34-year-old PSV boss Arnold de Wit. Fans were spectical ahead of this season, as PSV sold numerous star players, including Kevin Strootman (AS Roma), Dries Mertens (Napoli) and Jeremain Lens (Dynamo Kiev). PSV replaced these players with very young players, for example Karim Rekik, Jeffrey Bruma, Adam Maher, Borja, Markus Henriksen and more.

PSV quickly proved everyone wrong, not with great football, but with results. The only dissapointment that can be thought of, is the premature exit from Europe, PSV ended 4th in their Champions League group, in dramatic fashion.

In the league and in the domestic cup however, PSV were masters. With great ease, they were crowned champions a couple of weeks before the season ended. And in the cup final, they beat RKC with 6-1. Next year, as De Wit said, they also want to challenge in the Champions League, and with a few signings, that should be doable for PSV.

Player Performances:
This list has been sorted on average rating. Number one of this list is PSV Player of the Season 2013/2014. Our congratulations to Luciano Narsingh!

League Position Development:
In this graphic, you can see what position PSV had over the course of the season:

As you can see, PSV had a rough seat, but they recovered and didn't let go of the first place in the whole 2nd half of the season.

General Stats of the Eredivisie:
A lot of stats of this seasons Eredivisie:

The Promoted and Relegated Teams in Holland:
Jupiler League:
1st: Sparta. The 2nd team from Rotterdam in the Eredivisie, they join Feyenoord.
Play-Off: De Graafschap. They beat Volendam in the Play-Off final, in dramatic fashion. They won after extra time.
Play-Off: VVV-Venlo. The Limburg outfit had to beat Willem II, and they did.
Eredivisie:
18th: PEC. Zwolle's only Eredivisie team go straight down to the Jupiler League after 2 seasons in the Eredivise.
17th: NAC. The outfit from Breda had to try and stay up via the Play-Offs. But they didn't manage to survive, so they'll be playing in the Jupiler League next year.
16th: RKC. One week you're playing in the cup final, the other you've got to try not to go down. The interesting story of RKC this season, to make it even more interesting: RKC got defeated by De Graafschap in the 2nd round of the Play-Offs. This means that there will be Europa League football in Waalwijk, but also Jupiler League football.

Dutch Teams that play International Football Next Year:
Champions League: PSV go straight into the group stage, but Ajax will have to survive 2 qualifying rounds.
Europa League: FC Utrecht and FC Twente qualify for the 3rd qualifying round, because they finished 3rd and 4th. By winning the Europa League Play-Off, AZ will accompany FC Utrecht and FC Twente in the Europa League, albeit a qualifying round earlier.

Young Player of the Season:
PSV's Memphis Depay got crowned young player of the year. Guus Hupperts (Roda JC) finished 2nd, and Viktor Fischer (Ajax) got the 3rd spot.

Manager of the Season:
Arnold de Wit has earned this award by winning the Eredivisie and the KNVB Beker in his debut year with PSV.

Champions League:
Borussia Dortmund have beaten Real Madrid after penaltys. After 90 minutes, the score was 0-0, after 120 minutes, the deadlock wasn't broken either.

Today PSV announced that young on-loan centre back Karim Rekik will stay at PSV for another season. Another signing for PSV, as they have signed Nigerian defensive midfielder Ogenyi Onazi from Italian outfit Lazio. The 21-year-old has joined for a combined fee of 9.35 million Euros. He has signed a contract untill the summer of 2018. The signing of Onazi will mark the end of Schaars' one year spell at PSV. PSV give Van Nistelrooy and Van Bommel coaching role

De Wit has really influenced the club since coming, and now he has brought in his first piece of the puzzle in his coaching staff. De Wit has said that he wants to get more PSV legends involded in the club. Van Nistelrooy was very pleased that he got offered a contract at his beloved PSV.

PSV have also signed Mark van Bommel, who will be PSV's under 19's manager for the coming years. Mark van Bommel only left the club for one year, as he played his last season (2012/2013) in his career at PSV. These two additions to the coaching staff mark another revolution inside the club.

Narsingh leaves PSV for Valencia

For a very high fee, Luciano Narsingh has left Dutch champions PSV for Spanish top flight team Valencia. The fee is reported to be in the region of 16.5 million Euros. In 24 games, he scored 10 goals, and gave 11 assists. Narsingh had requasted a transfer, and De Wit was ready to let him go. PSV now have quite a lot of cash to spend on his replacement.

PSV tie up contract talks

PSV have extended the contracts of many players, including Wijnaldum, Boljevic, Bakkali and Tamata. The rest of the players haven't played a single match last season. PSV haven't extended the contract of Timothy Derijck, it is expected that he will leave this season/ Also, they have extended the contracts of two coaches: Ruud Hesp and John Feskens.

Derijck sold to Saint-Ettiene

De Wit has started clearing out players that PSV don't need anymore. He has started by selling out-of-favour centreback Timothy Derijck for a fee of 2.2 million Euros to French Ligue 1 team AS Saint-Ettiene. Derijck was loaned out to Eredivisie side FC Utrecht last season, where he played 28 matches in the Eredivisie. PSV have now brought in even more funds to sign a replacement for Luciano Narsingh, who is leaving for 16.75 million Euros.

Willems leaves PSV for Ukrainian adventure

Yet another player is sold, as left-back Jetro Willems joins Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee oof 13 million Euros. The 20-year-old is the second player in 2 years to join a Ukrainian club from PSV, Jeremain Lens joined Dynamo Kiev last season. Willems will get a wage of 57k per week at the club from Donetsk. De Wit: "It's always hard to let players like Willems go, he;s been a fantastic player for this club. But when you get an offer like this, it's hard to say no to it."

Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven have signed 24-year-old Mexican winger Javier Aquino from Spanish side Villarreal CF. PSV have signed this player for a fee of 6 million Euros. The Mexican international played 27 matches last season for Villarreal. De Wit was pleased with his new signing, and is looking forward to seeing his new player play for the first time. PSV will now have to get a replacement for Jetro Willems, who is also leaving the club.

PSV sign Brazilian left-back

Following the departure of Jetro Willems, PSV have signed AS Roma's left-back Dodô. The 22-year-old has joined the club from Brabant for a combined fee of 15 million Euros. PSV are paying the Brazilian starlet a contract untill 2017. PSV will pay Dodô 40k per week. De Wit was very pleased with another signing, and he seemed very happy about Dodô's qualitys. Pre-Season 2014/2015

FC Den Bosch-PSV (12-07-2014) Line-Ups:

FC Den Bosch-PSV Summary:

My Comments:
A pretty easy match, against a Jupiler League team. We hadn't tied up the Dodô transfer at the time, so I had to play Hendrix at left back. This shows that we might need a leftback. I also started new signings Onazi (7,5) and Aquino (7,2). As expected, it was a pretty easy victory for us, and the signings impressed. Man of the match was Wijnaldum, who scored a hattrick and got himself a 9,6.

FC Emmen-PSV (15-07-2014) Line-Ups:

FC Emmen-PSV Summary:

My Comments:
Another easy match, and it's just to get fitness levels up. Luckily we've got our new signing Dodô in the squad for this friendly. Dodô dind't really impress, he got a 6,5 this game. And in general, this game was a lot less interesting than the one against FC Den Bosch. Man of the match was Tim Matavz, who scored one goal, and got a rating of 7,8.

AS Roma-PSV (12-07-2014) Line-Ups:

AS Roma-PSV Summary:

My Comments:
Something else this time, as we faced very tough opposition with AS Roma. Also, they put up a very strong starting eleven. Dodô will play against his old club a week after joining us, and this will be his first real test, together with Onazi and Aquino. I thought we would actually lose this game, but we managed to contain the likes of Gervinho, Destro and Totti, and we maanged to get a draw at the Olimpico. Man of the match was Boljevic, who managed to test Roma's goalkeeper a couple of times. Because of this, he got a 6,8.

Note:
The pre-season isn't finished yet, we've got the Johan Cruijff Schaal (Community Shield) coming up, against Ajax.

Tyton joins Platanias

PSV's second goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton has joined Greek side Platanias. Tyon was unhappy at PSV because of his lack of playing time, and his transfer requast was granted. The fee of this transfer is 100k. PSV will ow have to search for a new second keeper, as their third keeper Benjamin van Leer also left. Tyton was excited because of his chance to get first-team football in the Greek Super League.

Polish goalkeeper Tyton

Real Madrid keeper joins PSV

After former second keeper Tyton left PSV for Platanias, PSV have signed Real Madrid keeper Fernando Pacheco for a fee of 1 million. Pacheco is considered a very big talent, and he plays for Spain's under 21 team. The keeper has stated that he wants to try and get into the first team, but he wouldn't mind being second keeper. Currently, first keeper Jeroen Zoet is impressing for PSV, and it doesn't look like he will leave PSV this summer.

PSV-Ajax: Johan Cruijff Schaal

Match Preview by Studio Voetbal:
Jack van Gelder: "Today PSV are going to play against Ajax for the annual Johan Cruijff Schaal. In this game, the winner of the Eredivisie plays against the winner of the KNVB Beker. Last year however, PSV won both of these prizes, so the number 2 of the Eredivisie, Ajax will play against PSV. In the studio, we've got several pundits, who will give you their opinion. We'll start with Co Adriaanse, former coach of several clubs, including Ajax. Co, what do you make of this game?"
Co Adriaanse: "Yes, thank you Jack. PSV are on a great run at the moment, you can't deny that. And they've already shown that they can handle the pressure, especially in the KNVB Beker, where they won 6-1 in the final. And because of this, I think PSV will win it today. I think the result will be 3-1. Ajax will put up a fight, but PSV will be a lot more effective, just like they were last season."
Jack van Gelder: "Hmm, interesting opinion there, thank you. Now we'll move on to our second pundit, former PSV player Ronald Waterreus."
Ronald Waterreus: "I've got to say, I agree with most of what Co has said, I also think PSV will win this one. They didn't lose to Ajax last season, and now they're even stronger with the likes of Dodô and Onazi. But I don't think PSV will win by sch a margin, I think the score will be 2-0 for PSV."
Jack van Gelder: "Thanks both of you. We're now going to the pitch, your commentator for this match is Leo Driessen"

Match Live Coverage:
1': "Welcome to De ArenA. It's a sunny day in Amsterdam, and the stadium is completely filled with red and white shirts."
1': "The official line-ups for this match are now revealed:"

1': "PSV has kicked off the match, we're underway!"
37': "From an Ajax corner, PSV counter and Matavz almost scores."

Half-Time: "It's half time, we've only really seen one big chance, the shot from Matavz. It's been a very boring first half from both sides."
Half-Time: "PSV make two substitutions, as Maher replaces Borja, and Bakkali replaces Depay for the second half."

46': "We're underway again, hopefully the second half will be better than the first half."
73': "Ajax-player Lerin Duarte almost scores directly from the corner!"
90': "It heas been very boring here today, and we're going to need extra time at De ArenA"

After 90 minutes: "PSV make their last sub, as Willian José comes on for Tim Matavz to make his debut."

91': "The first half of extra time is underway."
101': "GOAL: Ajax have took the lead! Blind taps it in from a Duarte free kick! The PSV fans are silenced!"
120': "The end of this match, Ajax have beaten PSV! Is this a sign of better things to come for Frank de Boer's men?"
120': "It has been an undeserved victory for Ajax, considering they've had 10 shots, and PSV had almost double that: 19."

Ajax fans, full in force, celebrating their victory
