Borussia's new coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, led his first training session this morning, keeping the first-team squad busy on the training ground for two hours.
Around 400 fans watched with great interest as Jurgen took his first training session at Gladbach on Tuesday morning. Photographers, TV crews and numerous other members of the press were on hand to see the new Borussia coach in action for the first time.
A warm-up routine was followed by a range of activities with the ball. "As I said yesterday, I need to get to know the players so that's why I'm focusing on working with the ball and various match situations," said Jurgen. After 45 minutes the new boss organised an 11-a -side practice match, changing the formations and line-ups of the two teams as he went along. "I'm trying a number of approaches, though I don't think there are any major differences between a 4-3-2-1, a 4-3-3 or a classic 4-4-2 formation." Jurgen watched the proceedings on the training ground with a keen eye and intervened several times to have a word with his players. "Everybody can make mistakes but I've got to point them out. That's my job," he said. "If I see something and I think it could be done better, then I deal with it straight away."
"Initial impressions very good"
Jurgen ended the first training session on his watch after two hours. "I'm very happy. My initial impressions of the team were very good. The players worked really well. It was a tough session and we'll carry on this afternoon with another two hours of training," he said.
