After what was a tough first season with Chelsea, I am more than happy to say that I am glad I have got it out of the way. What was going to potentially be a year in the Europa Cup, a poor final 3 games for Spurs meant that we finished in 4th on goal difference on the final day of the season. Apart from that we went out of the Champions League in the Quarter Finals to Man United, the League Cup Quarter Finals to Everton, and the FA Cup Quarter Finals to Aston Villa. Some may ask how I am still in the job.
After making drastic changes at the club and fiercely removing players by their numbers I had a change in the starting 11. Ashley Cole and myself come to the conclusion that it was best if we did not renew his contract, this meant that our signing from the season before, Luke Shaw, had almost guaranteed himself first team football.
Ramires had been playing poorly and after an astonishing £32m bid from PSG we felt that the money could be used to bring in new faces. Straight away we signed Diego Costa for the same price but with £10m being paid over 36 months, looking back I am happy with that decision.
We also sold Azpilicueta for £25m and replaced him with Nathaniel Clyne, sold John Obi Mikel and used the funds to purchase Alexis Sanchez.
We are now in December and are playing our final game in the Champions League Group Stages against Besiktas. We were also drawn with Shaktar and Olympiakos. We have won all 5 games in the Champions League so far.
After losing to Man City and Liverpool in the space of two weeks in December 2014. This was the first time we had lost a competitive match since our Champions League loss against Man Utd back in April. We have only drawn with Tottenham and Hull and are currently joint top with Man City.
Diego Costa is scoring for fun, Romeru Lukaku is following in his footsteps. Willian his having the two best seasons of his life and has stood out from the rest of the team by far.
Below is our Starting XI:
GK: Courtois
LB: Shaw
CB: Terry/Cahill
CB: David Luiz/Coloccini
RB: Clyne/Ivanovic
CM: Lampard
CM: Oscar
LAM: Hazard (Occasionally Schurrle)
CAM: Sanchez (Occasionallly Diego signed from Brazil)
RAM: Willian
ST: Diego Costa/Lukaku (Drogba/Torres also on bench).
At the end of the season I do not think I will renew Lampard/Terry's contract and need to find suitable replacements? Hopefully I win the league and my budget will increase, I have £20m at the moment and am trying my hardest to find the funds to sign Fabregas in January.
Any ideas on how I can strengthen my squad? Sorry its long winded but thank you for taking the time to read this.
