June 2015:

June 21st – Marco de Angelis

The time had arrived, the phone trilled across my desk and it was the Chairman: Marco de Angelis I had travelled out from my home in Portsmouth and made the short journey to Münster to discuss my vision with de Angelis, my aim was simple: return Münster back to the Bundesliga within 5 years. I knew I had to overcommit to outshine the other candidates gunning for the post, so I aimed high and was hopeful that I could achieve my vision. I picked up the phone and de Angelis instantly sounded enthusiastic, I began to feel confident as he expressed his admiration at the assertion of my plan, after a conversation which felt never-ending, de Angelis finally proposed terms:

Contract:
Weekly Wage: £2,100
Contract End Date: 30/06/2016
Relocation Package: Apartment in the North of Münster

I of course accepted the deal and began plans on moving to the North of Münster.

June 26th - Meet the Team

I spoke with current team captain, Amaury Bischoff, he gave me a fantastic introduction to the team and I spent time discussing my aims for the team in this initial season, all I expect is hard work, fans pay their money, come in their thousands, if we cannot work as a unit and encompass this hard working ethic then I do not want you at this club. The majority of players received this well, however, I saw a few disgruntled faces from Roger Krohne & Cihan Ozkara, I was keen on putting them in the starting line-up for our first friendly vs Hannover II on the 4th of July to see if these players were worthy of positions in this new era.

There was a small media circus including Dominik Denzler from The Münster Football Times who de Angelis pointed out to me as our regular press outlet; he commented that Dominik was friendly and good-humoured. It was the usual questions, most which I was prepared for; I remained calm and struggled slightly with my limited language skills, Matthias Fleissig from The German Football Post suggested my lack of experience would be the downfall of Münster, I was quick to point out that high reputation hasn’t done anything to provide success in the past. I signed off saying: Vereinigt Stehen wir, Getrennt Fallen wir! [United we Stand, Divided we Fall!]. I shook hands with de Angelis and held a large Münster flag and exited to debrief with the board of directors. After a long day of discussions I was keen to get back to my apartment and hang the memento I took from my first official day in charge, the Münster flag I was presented with during my conference.
