The team's pre-season finished with German club Mainz and Segunda Division B teams Naron and Alondras visiting Balaidos.

A pretty good pre-season for Celta, losing only two of our six games. The high number of goals we scored shows how ready our attacking players are for the season ahead, however injuries to first choice goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez and midfielder Levy Madinda are one of the few negatives to come from the friendlies. We've also conceded quite a few goals, and will have to work on our defence if we want to kick off the season with a win against newly promoted Real Valladolid.

Player of Pre-Season

Former O'Higgins attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez has been scintillating in pre-season, scooping man of the match awards in the first two games against Metz and Monaco, arguably the toughest games out of the six friendlies. Claude Makélélé will doubtless be hoping the Chilean can keep up this form in the league.
Good luck for the season ahead!
Nicolas Lopez signs for Celta

- The Uruguayan joins los Celestes for €8,000,000 and will be on €21,500 a week.

- Striker Borja Iglesias leaves the club for Ponferradina.
Lopez spent last season on loan with Granada, scoring once and assisting four goals.

With the transfer window now shut, Celta manager Claude Makélélé has managed to pull off a final signing. South American hitman Nicolas Lopez, 23, has joined the Galician club in a high profile deal from Italian club Udinese, and will doubtless hope to impress his new manager in the coming months. The new signing will wear the number 9 shirt for his new club, vacated by club legend Iago Aspas, who left the club for Manchester City earlier in the month.

Claude Makélélé said of the deal: "We're very happy to have Nicolas in our ranks. After the departure of Iago [Aspas], we have been in the market for a talented forward, and I believe we've come away with one here. I have no doubt that Nicolas can fill Aspas' shoes and more, they both play similar roles, and I'm sure that our new signing will have no problem fitting into our squad."

After beginning his career with Nacional in his homeland, Lopez earned a transfer to Serie A side Roma, where he made six appearances and scored one goal. After two seasons at the Olimpico, he moved to fellow Italian team Udinese for €4,000,000, playing eleven times and scoring twice. Failing to establish himself in the side, Lopez then moved on loan to Hellas Verona in 2014, then to Granada in 2015. He will now ply his trade with Celta, and is reportedly excited to play regularly in the Europa League.

Lastly, Celta striker Borja Iglesias has again left the club on loan, this time to Liga Adelante team Ponferradina. Despite a relatively successful loan spell with Gimnastic Tarragona last season, where he played 32 times and scored five times, Makélélé is reportedly keen to move Iglesias on a permanent basis, and his contract with los Bercianos includes an option to buy for €500,000. "Borja is a talented player, there is no doubt about that" said Makélélé of the deal "but he hasn't looked as capable as our other forward options in training. Hopefully he can prove me wrong this season and come back a better player, we shall have to see".
looks like a fantastic piece of business mate! good luck for the season ahead
mgriffin2012: Thanks mate, I'm well pleased to get him at that price, as he was worth a good 10 mil when I signed him. Going to post a squad review first and then I'll get right into the season itself :)
Looks a great player, well in terms of footballing ability, not looks.
Celta Vigo Squad - 2016/17

1 Sergio Alvarez
Age: 30
Nationality: Spanish

Celta's first choice 'keeper had several good games last season, and played in every single league match, as well as in the first leg of the cup semi-final against Real Madrid, and in the final against Barcelona. Finishing last season with a rating of 6.92, and with 11 clean sheets kept, Makélélé will doubtless look to Alvarez again as his first choice. However, after sustaining an injury during pre-season, he looks likely to miss the first few games of the season due to a strained hamstring in his leg.

13 Ruben Blanco
Age: 21
Nationality: Spanish

Touted as a future great, backup goalkeeper Ruben Blanco impressed in the cup games he played last season, and finished with an average rating of 6.83. While his potential is obvious, the Celta youth product still has a lot to learn, and will continue to play second fiddle to the more experienced Alvarez this season. Thanks to the latter's injury, Blanco will be starting between the sticks and will relish his chance to shine.

2 Hugo Mallo
Age: 25
Nationality: Spanish

Undoubtedly one of the best defenders in Makélélé's side, Mallo will hope to build on the impressive form he demonstrated last season. Having finished with an average rating of 7.19, and racking up five assists, the right back also captained the team when both captain Augusto Fernandez and vice captain Gustavo Cabral were indisposed. Mallo's manager will look to the locally born defender to step up and lead his team mates when required.

3 Andreu Fontas
Age: 27
Nationality: Spanish

Spain international Fontas is another talented defender, and serves as the rock at the heart of Celta's backline. As well as his defensive prowess, the former Barcelona man is a fantastic passer of the ball, and is key to setting up attacking moves from the back. While he missed a great deal of last season through injury, Makélélé has kept faith in Fontas, who fans hope will repay his manager with some great performances in the coming weeks.

4 David Costas
Age: 21
Nationality: Spanish

After a decent loan spell with Liga Adelante team Mallorca, promising central defender Costas has returned to Balaidos, where Claude Makélélé has assured him he will be an important part of the team. A regular Spain Under-21s international, the academy graduate still has a lot of learning to do, but is an undoubtedly talented defender who can also pass the ball about confidently, and will hopefully form a great partnership with Celta's other center backs.

19 Jonny
Age: 22
Nationality: Spanish

Another very talented Celta academy graduate, Jonny was one of Celta's star players last season, earning an average rating of 7.11. Thanks to his fantastic performances, he has been attracting to attention of clubs from abroad, most notably Premier League sides Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Jonny's versatility, in that he can play on either side of the defence, is very useful to Makélélé, and the Frenchman has made it clear that the Vigo born full back will be going nowhere.

20 Sergi Gomez
Age: 24
Nationality: Spanish

Former Barcelona player Gomez is another Celta player who played very well for the club he joined two years ago. After the injury to Andreu Fontas, Gomez stepped in to fill the role of ball playing defender, and did so admirably, and scored an average rating of 7.12. With Fontas fit again, and David Costas back from loan, it will be interesting to see who comes out as Makélélé's first choice center back partnership.

21 Carles Planas
Age: 25
Nationality: Spanish

Another former Barcelona player in Celta's ranks, Planas earned an average rating of 7.13 last season, but played mainly as backup to Jonny. He will doubtless hope to displace the Celta youth graduate and take his place in the first team squad, but first he will have to prove his worth to his manager.

22 Gustavo Cabral
Age: 31
Nationality: Argentinian

Veteran center back Cabral is a mainstay of Celta's backline, and as vice captain plays a vital role in pushing the team forward. While he is older than most of the members of Celta's squad, the Argentine still has an important part to play in Celta's season, and has played very well in the team's pre-season fixtures.

5 Borja Fernandez
Age: 21
Nationality: Spanish

Following a successful loan with Mirandes, in which he played 19 times and scored 3 goals, Borja Fernandez is back in the squad and determined to fight for a place. Despite not getting a lot of game time for Celta last season, the young midfielder is viewed as something of a replacement for Nemanja Radoja, who departed the club for Granada on loan. Fernandez's hard tackling and positional awareness will serve him well as the defensive enforcer in midfield.

6 Pablo Hernandez
Age: 30
Nationality: Chilean

A decent season for the former O'Higgins player last year, which saw him score three times and rack up six assists. With the departure of Iago Aspas, who Makélélé played in the hole last season, Hernandez will view this as a chance to establish himself in the side and impress his manager.

7 Theo Bongonda
Age: 21
Nationality: Belgian

Young Belgian winger Bongonda played well for Makélélé last season, despite making the majority of his appearances from the bench due to the fantastic form of fellow winger Pablo Sarabia. Despite this, the former Zulte Waregem player racked up five goals and three assists, and will hope to add more this season.

8 Alex Lopez
Age: 29
Nationality: Spanish

Returning from a successful loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday of the Sky Bet Championship, long time Celta player Alex Lopez has returned to Balaidos and will form an important part of Claude Makélélé's side. He also takes back his favoured number 8 shirt from Pablo Hernandez.

10 Pablo Sarabia
Age: 24
Nationality: Spanish

Arguably one of the signings of last season, former Getafe player Sarabia will hope to replicate the red hot form he showed last season in the next few months. Following his €10,000,000 transfer, Sarabia scored 13 goals and made 13 assists in his first season at Celta, endearing himself to fans and neutrals alike thanks to his scintillating form.

12 Guus Hupperrs
Age: 24
Nationality: Dutch

Another signing who has had a very positive impact since his arrival, Guus Hupperts earned himself an average rating of 7.15 and scored 5 goals for his new club, including his first one in the cup against Celta's semi final opponents Atletico Madrid. The former AZ player will want to build on this good start to his career with los Celestes in the next few months.

17 Levy Madinda
Age: 24
Nationality: Gabonese

Celta academy graduate Madinda is another player who showed good form last season, especially towards the end of the campaign. His average rating of 7.36 is well deserved, with his goal against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey a testament to his abilities. Unfortunately, the Gabonese international suffered a damaged Achilles tendon in the pre-season match against FC Metz and will be out for three months.

18 Daniel Wass
Age: 27
Nationality: Danish

Utility player Daniel Wass is another part of Celta's talented midfield. While his best position is arguably on the right wing, Makélélé played the Dane mainly in the middle in a box to box role, in which he excelled, earning an average rating of 7.44. This form has resulted in various clubs, including AS Monaco and FC Porto, inquiring about his services, and it is not known whether Wass will wish to remain at Celta.

23 Josep Señe
Age: 25
Nationality: Spanish

While his loan spell at Real Zaragoza was not the most successful, former Oviedo player Señe has returned to Makélélé's team and will likely play as backup to Pablo Hernandez. However, if he can put together a good series of performances, Makélélé will have to consider him as a first choice player.

24 Augusto Fernandez
Age: 30
Nationality: Argentinian

Celta's captain will definitely form a very important part of any success Celta hope to achieve in the coming season. Playing as an advanced playmaker for the majority of last season, former Velez Sarsfield player Fernandez was the engine in the middle of the park for los Celestes. Like a great deal of Celta's players, other clubs have taken an interest in him, with Swansea, West Ham and Stoke of the Premier League all keen to sign the Argentinian.

9 Nicolas Lopez
Age: 23
Nationality: Uruguayan

New signing Lopez will hope to put together a string of good performances and impress his new manager and team mates. Makélélé has stated that he sees Lopez's main position as behind the striker, but he will surely play as a striker should the need arise.

11 John Guidetti
Age: 24
Nationality: Swedish

Former Manchester City striker Guidetti was Celta's top scorer last season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions. The Swede will hope to replicate this form in the next season, but once again, this good form has resulted in Napoli and Olympique Marseille submitting bids for Guidetti, which were swiftly rejected by Makélélé, who declared the striker an indispensable member of the team.

14 Sandro Ramirez
Age: 21
Nationality: Spanish

Another new signing for Celta, on loan Barcelona striker Sandro has already excited fans by playing very well in pre-season. While he can play up front, Makélélé has reportedly said that the La Masia graduate will mostly play on the wings.

Celta 2 - 0 Real Valladolid
Blanco - Mallo Cabral Fontas Jonny - Wass (Costas '75) Augusto (c) - Hupperts Hernandez (Señe '57) Sarabia (Bongonda '57) - Guidetti
Goals: Cabral ('58), Hupperts ('73)
MoM: Daniel Wass

A great start to the new season from Celta, as they hammered newly promoted Valladolid. Pablo Hernandez nearly gave his team the lead with a shot from inside the box that cracked off the bar and back into play, only to be gathered by Valladolid 'keeper Iricibar. He also produced a moment of magic to deny Sarabia on 37 minutes, and the teams went into half time with the scores level. With the second half underway, Ruben Blanco saved what seemed to be a sure goal from Manu del Moral. Celta finally took the lead when man of the match Wass put a fantastic corner into the box. Veteran centre back Gustavo Cabral rose high and smashed the ball off his head and into the net to score Celta's first goal of the season. Their second goal came not long afterwards, another good ball from Wass found Hupperts, who surged into the box, and curled the ball beautifully past Iricibar to seal the tie in Celta's favour.

Real Betis 2 - 2 Celta
Blanco - Mallo Cabral Fontas (Costas '60) Jonny - Wass Augusto (c) - Hupperts Señe Bongonda (Sarabia '45) - Guidetti (Lopez '60)
Goals: Riera ('7, '58), Hupperts ('15), Sarabia ('81)
MoM: Oriol Riera

An entertaining game, as former Deportivo player Riera put in a fantastic performance for his new club to score twice against his old team's arch rivals. Riera gave Betis the lead just 7 minutes in, hammering the ball past Ruben Blanco from inside the box. Los Celestes brought the game level just 8 minutes later, Theo Bongonda receiving the ball on the halfway line. The Belgian sprinted forwards, taking on two defenders before putting in a low cross that Guus Hupperts met with his foot and planted it past Adan. The first half ended with the scores level. 18 minutes after the restart, Real Betis again took the lead, Riera picking up a great over the top ball from Rafael van der Vaart, and then firing the ball between Blanco's legs to send the Benito Villamarin into cheers. With the game nearing its end, Celta's number 10 Sarabia came to the rescue. Some fantastic play on the left allowed Augusto Fernandez to cross the ball, which met the head of Nicolas Lopez. The Uruguayan headed the ball down towards Sarabia, who was left with a simple finish and easily brought the scores level, salvaging a point for Makélélé's men to bring back to Balaidos.

Player of the Month

Former AZ player Guus Hupperts has played brilliantly in the two games this month, scoring in both of them. His average rating in both matches has been fantastic too (8.7 v Valladolid and 7.5 v Betis), and he should continue in this vein of form in the next few months.
Solid start!
Celta drawn into Europa League Group L

Group L

Olympique Marseille

SC Braga

Celta Vigo

Lokomotiv Moscow

A decent group that Celta will hope to qualify for. We definitely have the capabilities to challenge Marseille for first place, and shouldn't have much trouble with the other two teams either. Our first game in the group is at home to Russian team Lokomotiv Moscow next month.

Meanwhile, fellow Liga BBVA team Sevilla have been drawn into Group B, alongise Stuttgart, AS Trencin and Trabsonzpor.

Celta 2 - 1 Granada
Blanco - Mallo Cabral Costas Jonny - A. Lopez Augusto (c) - Sandro (Sarabia '67) Hernandez (Lopez '76) Bongonda (Wass '56) - Guidetti
Guidetti ('45+2, '77), Cordoba ('59)
MoM: John Guidetti

Los Celestes continued their good form from last month, beating mid table Granada in a decent match. Mid way through the second half, Ruben Blanco, still filling on for the injured Sergio Alvarez, pulled off a fantastic double save to deny Granada winger Krhin. The deadlock was finally broken by Celta's top scorer last season: John Guidetti. A great ball from Mallo right by the endline was met by the Swede's head, and he powered a header into the goal, giivng Celta the lead at half time. Los Celestes nearly doubled their lead after the restart, Bongonda firing wide from a very good position following a counter attack. However, it was Granada who scored next, target man Jhon Cordoba being slipped through by Krhin and smashing the ball past Blanco after some great passing play by Granada. Fortunately for Celta, man of the match Guidetti was on hand to save the day. A Jonny throw in found Nicolas Lopez, who played a low cross into the area for Guidetti to hammer home for his second of the match, which was enough to settle the tie in Celta's favour.

Europa League Group L
Celta 4 - 2 Lokomotiv Moscow
Sergio - Mallo Costas Gomez Jonny - Wass (Señe '56) Augusto (c) - Hupperts Lopez (Fontas '64) Bongonda (Sandro '75) - Guidetti
Goals: Lopez ('4), Bongonda ('5), Guidetti ('23, '85), Baba ('58, '64)
MoM: John Guidetti

Celta welcomed European football back to Balaidos for the first time in 10 years with a good win against Lokomotiv Moscow. Still unbeaten so far this season, Celta showed their class by going 2-0 up in just 5 minutes. Nicolas Lopez scored his first for his new club, a sensational back heeled pass from Guidetti finding him in plenty of space and the former Udinese player easily finished past Lokomotiv 'keeper Stojkovic. Bongonda then scored just a minute later, Mallo crossing into the box where the young Belgian was waiting to volley the ball home and send Balaidos into raptures. Los Celestes weren't quite finished in the first half however, Daniel Wass played a great ball over the defence, and met the run of Guidetti, who didn't hesitate to rifle the ball home and give Celta decisive lead with much of the game still to go.

The half time whistle blew with the team from Vigo firmly in control. The Lokomotiv manager must have given quite a team talk however, because the Russian side came back out determined to salvage something from the match.Senegalese striker Baba received a great ball from Manuel Fernandes, and confidently finished past Alvarez to claw one back. The former Sevilla player added a second just six minutes later, smashing a header home from a Mustapha Yatabare cross. Despite this scare, Celta regained their compsure, and managed to score again through John Guidetti, who fired the ball into the roof of the net after meeting a good pass from Hupperts and give Celta a win in their first European game this season.

Celta 0 - 1 Atletico
Sergio - Wass Cabral (c) Gomez Jonny (Mallo '57) - A. Lopez Señe (Augusto '45) - Hupperts Hernandez Sarabia - Lopez (Sandro '65)
Goals: Ferreira-Carrasco ('35)
MoM: Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco

A disappointing first loss of the season for Celta, as Atletico Madrid avenged last season's cup semi-final. While the team that played today was good, it was not the strongest that Makélélé could have fielded, with many fans questioning why the manager had played such a good team against Lokomotiv Moscow earlier in the week. The game did start well for Celta when they were awarded a penalty after Filipe Luis put in a high boot when challenging Guus Hupperts. Young midfielder Josep Señe went to take the penalty, but his effort was very readable and was easily saved by Jan Oblak. Things went from bad to worse for los Celestes, as they then conceded a goal with ten minutes of the first half to go, former Monaco winger Ferreira-Carrasco scoring with a fantastic chip that sailed over Sergio Alvarez and nestled in the back of the net. Unfortunately for Celta, they just couldn't get into the game, only managing 7 attempts at goal in the entire match, and Makélélé will be disappointed at this performance from his team.

Malaga 1 - 1 Celta
Sergio - Mallo (A. Lopez '45) Cabral Fontas Jonny - Wass Augusto (c) - Hupperts (Sandro '62) Lopez (Hernandez '62) Sarabia - Guidetti
Goals: Sarabia ('21), Charles ('27)
MoM: Roberto Rosales

A decent draw for Celta against high flying Malaga at La Rosaleda, where both sides showcased their defensive abilities by keeping each other's talented forwards at bay. Celta opened the scoring midway through the first half through Pablo Sarabia, who scored from a very tight angle after a great pass from Augusto Fernandez. Malaga didn't take long to respond however, with Charles, who is becoming quite adept at scoring against his former club, powering home a close range volley from a Rosales cross. These proved to be the only goals of the match, with Nordin Amrabat hitting the bar just before half time, and in form striker John Guidetti pulling the ball narrowly wide after being played clean through. Despite this, Makélélé will be pleased at his team's defensive prowess, and will take a point back home to Vigo.

Almeria 2 - 3 Celta
Sergio - Mallo Cabral Fontas Jonny (Costas '45) - A. Lopez Augusto (c) (Sandro '69) - Hupperts Hernandez Bongonda (Sarabia '54) - Lopez
Goals: Hernandez ('48), Zongo ('52), Lopez ('57), Diaz ('71), Hupperts ('80)
MoM: Nicolas Lopez

A thrilling encounter between Celta and newly promoted Almeria, with five goals being scored in total. Despite a drab first half, the second was enthralling. Chilean playmaker Pablo Hernandez got on the scoreboard first, rolling the ball under Casto after a defence splitting pass from Nicolas Lopez. The Andalusians quickly responded, striker Jonathan Zongo equalising with powerful header from a free kick for his first goal of the season. Nicolas Lopez turned from provider to scorer for the next goal, as he smashed a powerful volley into the net from a Guus Hupperts cross to cap off a wonderful move. However, Almeria again equalised, this time through Iago Diaz. The winger sprinted into the box and avoided the slide tackle of Hugo Mallo, then fired off a shot that flew past Alvarez and dinked off the inside of the left hand post to bring the scores level. Celta were determined to get all three points however, and got their wish through Guus Hupperts. Sarabia gathered the ball on the left wing, and whipped in a great cross for the Dutch winger, who saw the empty net in front of him and calmly slotted home to give Celta the win.

Europa League Group L
Braga 0 - 1 Celta
Blanco - Wass (Mallo '80) Costas Gomez Jonny - A. Lopez (Lopez '61) Augusto (c) - Sandro Señe Sarabia - Guidetti (Fontas '80)
Goals: Guidetti (pen '38)
MoM: Andre Pinto

Celta's final game of their month was their second Europa League group game, against nearby Portuguese team SC Braga. A great save from Matheus denied Sarabia his first European goal on 8 minutes, and the Portuguese 'keeper had to make a similar effort to keep out what looked like a goal-bound header from David Costas from the resulting corner. Sandro also had an effort saved, and the Celta players must have been wondering whether they would ever manage to score. The deadlock was finally broken when Yohan Tavares hauled down John Guidetti in the box. The former Manchester City striker confidently hit the ball straight down the middle and into the net, giving Celta the lead. Los Celestes then appeared to sit deeper, absorbing pressure from Braga and hitting them on the break. However, the penalty proved to be the only goal of the game, and despite the low scoreline, Makélélé will be happy to have two wins from two in the group so far.

Player of the Month

Danish midfielder Daniel Wass has been superb this month, playing in four of Celta's six games this month. Due to a hamstring injury to Carles Planas, and Jonny picking up a niggling toe injury, Wass has been playing as a full back a fair amount this month, and has stepped up to the plate admirably. He's also racked up a couple of assists this month, and hopefully will keep up this form all season.

John Guidetti also definitely deserves an honourable mention, scoring five goals this month and picking up two man of the match awards.
You can definitely make it out of that group, best of luck!
Griffo: Thanks buddy. Quick question, I've noticed lots of other stories include screenshots from people's saves. How do I upload mine onto the site?
Umm there is something most people use called FM Shots which is something custom for FM Scout but I use Photobucket instead as I prefer it.

The FM Scout guide on all this is in the link below

If you have trouble, just PM me and I will get back to you

P.S. With the screenshotting if the method in that guide doesnt work it may be because you are playing full screen, I do this and I have to do steam screenshots and locate the folder they go to (which I just shortcutted onto my desktop)
