Toulouse sealed the Ligue 1 title with a 2-1 victory in their first fixture of May against Stade Malherbe Caen. In the next fixture, Toulouse lost 1-0 to rivals Montpellier HSC with a goal in the 49th minute from Djamel Bakar proving the difference. To finish the season, Wissam Ben Yedder collected a brace in Toulouse’s 2-0 victory over Stade de Reims.
Pavle Ninkov has claimed the Player Of The Month award in the final month of the season, contributing with two assists in three games and performing impressively in defence by making some vital tackles and interceptions across the month.
The Serbian made 45 appearances during this season, contributing with 11 assists. The experience that the 32-year was able to provide was vital for Toulouse during their successful Ligue 1 campaign.
Causing a massive upset this season, Toulouse won the Ligue 1 title for the first time in the history of the club. Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League while Montpellier HSC and OGC Nice sealed their place in the UEFA Europa League after both sides missed out on European football this season.
Despite Toulouse causing an upset to win the Ligue 1, the biggest surprise of the season was the poor performance from Paris Saint-Germain who finished sixth and failed to qualify for either European competition. After guiding Paris Saint-Germain in their worst performance since the 2009-10 season, Roberto Mancini was sacked and will be replaced by Stade Rennais manager Philippe Montanier.
At the bottom end of the table, ESTAC Troyes, Racing Club de Lens and Valenciennes FC will all be playing in Ligue 2 next season. Olympique Marseille return to Ligue 1 after their shocking relegation last season, where they will be joined by Dijon FCO and US Orleans.
