• The 22-year-old winger joins from Toulouse for €10.25 million
• During his time at A.C. Milan, Niang went on loan to four different clubs across Europe
• Adding versatility to the Toulouse squad, Niang can play as either a striker or on the wing
For the upcoming season, Toulouse have secured the transfer of French winger M’Baye Niang from A.C. Milan for €10.25 million. The contact signed by Niang is set to see him earn €31,500 per week until 2021. Niang adds versatility to the Toulouse squad with the 22-year-old capable of either playing up front as a striker or on the wing.
After being signed from Stade Malherbe Caen during the 2012/13 season, Niang would go on to only make 33 appearances during his time with A.C. Milan. Instead of playing for the Rossoneri, Niang enjoyed loan spells with Montpellier HSC, Genoa, Trabzonspor and Real Betis before moving to Toulouse.
“M’Baye first came on my radar during his loan spell with Montpellier HSC in the 2013/14 season and I was impressed.” said Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage. “Since then I have tracked his progress and when the opportunity to bring him to the club presented itself, I did everything I could to ensure it happened.” he added.
“The opportunity to return home and play in the UEFA Champions League was one that I just could not turn down.” said Niang. “I cannot wait to meet my new teammates and begin training, I am incredibly excited for the start of the season.” he added.
The arrival of M’Baye Niang does bring into question what role he will have at Toulouse and what effect his arrival will have on the other members within the Toulouse squad. At this stage, it is unsure as to whether Dominique Arribage is looking to make a formation change or at least have the opportunity available to him or whether players within the Toulouse squad may have their positions under threat.
