Julian Weigl has moved to France looking to find first team football with Toulouse
• Toulouse have secured the transfer of Julian Weigl for €15.25 million
• The 22-year-old spent six seasons with Munchen Lions before moving to Borussia Dortmund
• The German struggled to secure first team football leading him to put in a transfer request
After struggling to find first team football at Borussia Dortmund last season, Julian Weigl is set to play in Ligue 1 after securing a transfer to Toulouse. Dortmund will receive a transfer fee of €15.25 million with the 22-year-old set to earn €40,000 per week during his time at the club.
Starting his career with Munchen Lions, Weigl moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2015 where he made thirty-nine appearances in his first season. Next season, Weigl made only two appearances for Dortmund leading him to put in a transfer request and eventually seal a move to Toulouse.
“Julian is an incredible talent, I am thrilled to be able to bring him to the club for the upcoming season.” said Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage. “I hope he is able to make an instant impact for the club and go on to have a great career in football.” he added.
“Leaving Borussia Dortmund is incredibly difficult but a move to another club is what is best for my footballing career right now.” said Weigl. “I am looking forward to meeting up with the squad and begin training as we prepare for the new season.” he added.
Weigl is set to replace departing Toulouse vice-captain Etienne Didot who recently moved to Israel to play for Maccabi Tel-Aviv. His presence will add depth to a Toulouse midfield which manager Dominique Arribage has looked to strengthen since bringing in Tiemoue Bakayoko during the January transfer window last season.
