After a strong season in French and European football, three Toulouse players are set to participate in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Toulouse captain Emanuel Mamanna is set to represent Argentina with Tiemoue Bakayoko and M’Baye Niang named in the French squad by Rudi Garcia.
Seen as the future of the Argentinian defence, Toulouse captain Emanuel Mamanna is expected to start for his country during the World Cup. The 22-year-old has eight caps for Argentina already and is expected to have a long national team career ahead of him.
After moving from AS Monaco during the 2016/17 season, Tiemoue Bakayoko has developed into the heart of the Toulouse midfield. The selection of Bakayoko comes as a shock with the 23-year-old only representing his country once prior to making the squad.
After being named in the French squad for a number of friendlies but not yet making his debut, the selection of M’Baye Niang for the World Cup squad comes as a big surprise. Niang was clearly one of the stand out players for Toulouse during the season but his selection has caused a lot of controversy.
France drawn alongside Switzerland, Mexico and Senegal in Group E with Argentina facing Austria, Denmark and Qatar on Group G. The opening fixture of the 2018 World Cup will see Russia face Colombia on the 15th of June.
