In preparation for the new season, Toulouse went on a tour of North America which saw them play matches against sides from Canada, Mexico and the United States. Toulouse got off to a slow start in Canada but still performed well despite finishing with a draw against Montreal Impact.

Toulouse improved as they travelled through the United States, finishing with a dominant 7-0 victory over Houston Dynamo in their final match which saw Kelechi Iheanacho complete a hat-trick while M’Baye Niang finished with a brace.

In their final two games of the pre-season, Toulouse travelled to Mexico where they continued their terrific form. Wissam Ben Yedder finished with a hat-trick against CF America as Toulouse ended their tour with another 7-0 win.

Injury Report

Tiemoue Bakayoko

After suffering shin splints while representing France at the World Cup, Tiemoue Bakayoko has missed the entire pre-season and is expected to miss the French Champions Trophy fixture against Paris Saint-Germain but should be fit for the opening match of the Ligue 1 season.

Facing a tough start, Toulouse will play Paris Saint-Germain in consecutive fixtures to begin the season. The clubs face off in the tradition French Champions Trophy match before meeting each other in the opening fixture of the Ligue 1 season.

Next they travel to face relegation candidates En Avant de Guingamp followed by a fixture against the in-form Stade Rennais at Stadium Municipal. To finish the month, Toulouse take on the recently promoted Havre Athletic Club.

Very difficult start to the season, with PSG awaiting you twice in 6 days..... If you can pull through what may prove to be the most challenging fixtures of your season, you should be able to sail through the rest of the month!

Really good pre season mate but you're in for a tough start to Ligue 1 with that PSG fixture but if you can avoid defeat you're going to have an extremely tough start!

Despite winning the Champions Trophy for the past two seasons, Toulouse head into the match as underdogs against a side which they have defeated in seven of their past eight fixtures.

“Based on our record against Paris Saint-Germain it is tough to see why they are regarded as favourites but looking at the players in their side you begin to understand why.” said Toulouse manager Dominic Arribage. “It is very clear that they have the best players in French football but I believe we are the best team.” he added.

Tiemoue Bakayoko will miss the match after suffering shin splints representing France at the World Cup, he is expected be replaced by new signing Lucas Leiva who will provide big match experience heading into the fixture.

After finishing sixth at the end of the 2016/17 season, Paris Saint-Germain sacked manager Roberto Mancini and replaced him with Philippe Montanier who guided the club back to the top, winning the Ligue 1 title last season.

“Last year we managed to return to the top of French football but a club the size of ours needs to be aiming for even higher honours.” said Montanier. “Our aim is to win the UEFA Champions League and we will be hoping to achieve this goal sooner rather than later” he added.

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking for revenge after losing the French Champions Trophy to Toulouse at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Toulouse Win Third French Champions Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain were left shocked as Toulouse won the French Champions Trophy
Toulouse 1 - 1 Paris Saint-Germain

For the third season in a row, Toulouse have won the French Champions Trophy in dramatic fashion by defeating Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shoot-out. Toulouse have now won the French Champions Trophy three years in a row, establishing themselves as one of the top sides in France.

Paris Saint-Germain came out and took control of the game while Toulouse battled in order get out of their own half despite having an even share of possession. In the 22nd minute, Andrija Zivkovic put a cross into the Toulouse box which William Matheus attempted to clear only to put the ball past Predrag Rajkovic to see Paris Saint-Germain take an early lead.

Continuing to dominate the game, Paris Saint-Germain continued to produce chances while Toulouse battled to stay in the game. Just before half-time, Toulouse fans leaped out of their seats when Wissam Ben Yedder managed to find the back of the net only to be found offside, seeing Paris Saint-Germain head into the break with a one goal advantage.

After the break, Paris Saint-Germain continued to dominate the game but failed to capitalise on their opportunities while Toulouse only managed one shot on target during the entire half. The shot on target for Toulouse occurred in injury time when Julian Weigl managed to set up M’Baye Niang on the edge of the box who then put the ball past Geronimo Rulli to send the Toulouse fans into raptures and send the game into penalties.

In the shoot-out both sides managed to convert their first three attempts followed by Julian Weigl putting the ball in the back of the net for Toulouse. Javier Pastore would then step up for Paris Saint-Germain only to have his attempt saved by Predrag Rajkovic, leaving everything on the shoulders of Kelechi Iheanacho who calmly put the ball in the bottom left corner to seal the victory for Toulouse.

“That was an incredibly tough match and I am thrilled to be lifting the French Champions Trophy once again.” said Toulouse captain Emanuel Mammana. “This is only the start for our squad this season, it is vital that we are never satisfied with any performance and always strive to improve both individually and as a team.” he added.

After the French Champions Trophy victory, Toulouse will once again face Paris Saint-Germain to start the Ligue 1 season. Paris-Saint Germain are believed to be favourites to claim the title once again while it is expected that Toulouse, AS Monaco and Olympique Lyonnais will provide competition during the season.
