Fans go wild after Wissam Ben Yedder scores to secure the Ligue 1 title for Toulouse

• For the second time in three years, Toulouse have won the Ligue 1 title
• Toulouse sealed the title with a 2-0 victory against Olympique Lyonnais
• The remaining Ligue 1 fixtures see Toulouse face Stade de Reims and Paris Saint-Germain

Toulouse have won the Ligue 1 title after their victory against Olympique Lyonnais at Stade des Lumieres. Finding themselves neck and neck with Paris Saint-Germain for a majority of the season, Toulouse managed to claim the title after Paris Saint-Germain lost form while still participating in the UEFA Champions League.

Impressively, Toulouse currently find themselves eighteen points ahead of the points total that saw them win the title in the 2016/17 season with two games remaining. They continue to show football fans around the world that Ligue 1 is no longer a one horse race.

“I am proud of every single player in our squad, they have all performed at the highest level to see us be crowned as champions.” said Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage. “There are a number of people who say we have something special here at Toulouse, I can assure you we don’t, everything we achieve is a result of dedication and hard work.” he added.

“When Emanuel (Mammana) left for Arsenal in January, the squad could have easily have lost form but we remained strong.” said Toulouse captain Cristian Pavon. “This season was something I will remember for the rest of my life and I feel honoured to lift the trophy on behalf of everyone involved in the club.” he added.

The side will celebrate claiming the title when they return to Stadium Municipal to face Stade de Reims before finishing the Ligue 1 season with a match against second placed Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.
Congratulations on winning Ligue 1.. Ben Yedder the man again

Currently facing injury concerns, Toulouse head into the match against title rivals Paris Saint-Germain as underdogs. They will be without M’Baye Niang and Oscar Trejo heading into the match with both players considered to be key elements to the success the club has enjoyed. Toulouse have been successful in the French Cup in recent history, winning the competition twice in the past three seasons.

“Despite our past success, our squad remains as motivated as ever for success in this competition.” said Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage. “The players are prepared for the match and are willing to go into battle in order to progress.” he added.

After being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage, Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to advance to the final of the French Cup with a victory over Toulouse. Despite being considered the dominant force in French football, Paris Saint-Germain have failed to make the French Cup final in the past three seasons after winning the competition in the 2014/15 season.

“After the semi-final draw was announced we knew we need to prepare for a tough match.” said Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva. “Toulouse have established themselves as our main competition in French football and we will have to be at our best to come away with the win.” he added.

A penalty from Edinson Cavani saw Paris Saint-Germain defeat Toulouse

Paris Saint-Germain 1 - 0 Toulouse

Despite sealing the Ligue 1 title earlier in the month, Toulouse suffered defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain to see the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists advance to the final of the French Cup where they will face En Avant de Guingamp.

The match got off to a fast paced start before Julian Weigl brought down Raheem Sterling inside the box in the 16th minute to see Paris Saint-Germain awarded a penalty. Edinson Cavani stepped up to the spot to convert, giving his side an early advantage.

For the rest of the first half, Paris Saint-Germain took control of the match while Toulouse battled to assert themselves by looking to play with a more physical presence. Despite their lack of possession, Toulouse had one clear chance when Serge Gnarby found himself one on one with Geronimo Rulli only to put his shot wide of goal.

Toulouse continued to struggle in the second half as Paris Saint-Germain controlled the match and continued to produce a number of chances. Kelechi Iheanacho was brought on by Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage and scored with a header but Paris Saint-Germain would close out the match to see them advance to the final of the French Cup.

Both sides are set to meet once again in both sides final game of the Ligue 1 season with the match set to be played at Parc des Princes on the 25th of May. Paris Saint-Germain will then go on to face En Avant de Guingamp in the French Cup final at Stade de France on the 1st of June.
Shame about the loss, but you stole the league from them though!
Damn, unlucky dude!
Unlucky to see defeat in the semi-final! Gotta hate P$G

Starting off with a victory over LOSC Lille, Toulouse would then claim the Ligue 1 title in their 2-0 win over Olympique Lyonnais. In their final home game of the season, Toulouse rested their starting side ahead of the French Cup semi-final, finishing with a 0-0 draw against last placed Stade de Reims.

Facing Paris Saint-Germain in two consecutive fixtures to finish the season, Toulouse lost 1-0 in the French Cup semi-final before going on to get revenge with a 3-0 victory in the final Ligue 1 match of the season.

After securing his international debut for France, Dimitri Foulquier has been named the Player Of The Month for May. The 26-year-old provided defensive stability for Toulouse while also contributing with three assists throughout the month.

Joining Toulouse at the start of the 2017/18 season, Foulquier started his career at Stade Rennais FC before spending four seasons at Granada in La Liga. It has been reported that Bundesliga champions Bayern Leverkusen are interested in signing him during the upcoming transfer window.

Despite being in a close battle during the season, Toulouse claimed the Ligue 1 title and finished with a nine-point advantage over Paris Saint-Germain while Stade Rennais claimed the final place in the UEFA Champions League by finishing third. AS Monaco and OGC Nice are set to play in the UEFA Europa League while Olympique Lyonnais await the result of the French Cup final to know whether they will join them.

At the other end of the table, French Cup finalists En Avant de Guingamp have been relegated on the final day and are set to play in Ligue 2 despite not being in the bottom three during the entire season. Dijon FCO and Stade de Reims will join En Avant de Guingamp in Ligue 2 while Racing Club de Lens, FC Metz and Angers SCO are all set to return to the top division in French football.

Toulouse have failed in their bid to defend the French Cup after being eliminated from the competition by Paris Saint-Germain who will now go on to face En Avant de Guingamp in the final.

Injury Report

Oscar Trejo

Despite only just returning from a chest injury, Oscar Trejo has suffered a major setback upon his return, suffering a broken leg which will see him unavailable for four to five months.
Well done on the title dude well deserved
Just had a catch up on this, looking forward to the new season
94 points would usually be enough to win any league, but PSG have certainly been outdone by a brilliant Toulouse this season... congratulations on a fantastic league campaign!
Absolutely incredible showing in the league! As Justice said, 94 points is more than enough but for you to rack up so many points and only losing one game?! Wow...
