Fans go wild after Wissam Ben Yedder scores to secure the Ligue 1 title for Toulouse
• For the second time in three years, Toulouse have won the Ligue 1 title
• Toulouse sealed the title with a 2-0 victory against Olympique Lyonnais
• The remaining Ligue 1 fixtures see Toulouse face Stade de Reims and Paris Saint-Germain
Toulouse have won the Ligue 1 title after their victory against Olympique Lyonnais at Stade des Lumieres. Finding themselves neck and neck with Paris Saint-Germain for a majority of the season, Toulouse managed to claim the title after Paris Saint-Germain lost form while still participating in the UEFA Champions League.
Impressively, Toulouse currently find themselves eighteen points ahead of the points total that saw them win the title in the 2016/17 season with two games remaining. They continue to show football fans around the world that Ligue 1 is no longer a one horse race.
“I am proud of every single player in our squad, they have all performed at the highest level to see us be crowned as champions.” said Toulouse manager Dominique Arribage. “There are a number of people who say we have something special here at Toulouse, I can assure you we don’t, everything we achieve is a result of dedication and hard work.” he added.
“When Emanuel (Mammana) left for Arsenal in January, the squad could have easily have lost form but we remained strong.” said Toulouse captain Cristian Pavon. “This season was something I will remember for the rest of my life and I feel honoured to lift the trophy on behalf of everyone involved in the club.” he added.
The side will celebrate claiming the title when they return to Stadium Municipal to face Stade de Reims before finishing the Ligue 1 season with a match against second placed Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.
