Sporting (MAC) win 2019 Liga de Elite

The final day of the 2019 Liga de Elite was one of the most exciting in recent memory as two clubs Sporting and Benfica had to win their matches to win the league. Sporting were ahead on the table that day and really only needed a Benfica loss or draw if they lost their match. Well within the first 30 minutes of the match it was all over for Befica as Sporting were leading Hong Lok 6-0 at that point. The match would end with a 11-0 blowout. Vinicius Lemes broke a club and league record for most goals in a match with seven. Sporting now hold the record for goals in a match.


It was a very special season for Sporting as they have achieved a treble in their first season back on the top league. Overall despite two loses it was a great year for the club. In the preseason they were marked as favorites to win the league. Statistically Sporting pretty much dominated the league. Manager Kévin Gauthier would be awarded the Head Coach of the Year award for the first time.

Now that the season is over Sporting will have a chance to catch their breath for the next few months before training camp starts early. The biggest news is that the club will be participating in the 2020 AFC Cup. The club is looking to make the new decade the best one yet in club history. Also they are less than seven years away from celebrating their 100th year.

I have won 10 different trophies since starting my career and just a bunch of individual awards. Crazy how one decision can change your life for the better. I am looking forward to what has to come in the new decade that starts in a few months.

Well I am finally back home in Europe for the first time since 2015. Yes that is right five years. It has been a long time since being back on the continent and it feels good. I am here on my vacation as we at Sporting are now on the offseason so I thought it would be the best thing to go back home. I am hoping to take my mind off of the sport a bit.

It is a strange feeling being back here in Le Havre. The place seems like it hasn't changed since I left all these years ago. Hell even with my homecoming nobody really gave a shit about my accomplishments so far. I have been told they are "proud" of everything. Hell even my friends don't really care anymore. On one of the first days back I wanted to see some friends and they were just too busy for me, oh well their loss.

There is actually a reason for me coming back to Europe. I had been talking with my agent and the told me that the best way to get a job out this way is to move back. I can't really talk about this one club that I have actually interviewed with and they have been interested in me. All I can say is their season is almost over and if I do get this job I won't be joining until their current season is over. Apparently their manager got a job in Germany several weeks ago and have gone with a caretaker for now. During the interview I said I wasn't comfortable taking over with like a month to go.

Due to this the Sporting board has no damn clue I even interviewed and that once I get this job offer I am cutting all ties from Sporting. Thy and the fans are going to be so pissed. I know I just gave them a treble and now are back in the AFC Cup but trust me this place I might be at will be so much better.

Well we will see what happens soon enough.

Kévin Gauthier to join club as newest manager at seasons end

After spending the last month looking for a replacement for Mika Lehosuo the board have found who will be taking the club forward. 38 year old Kévin Gauthier will be joining the club as its newest manager.

Despite only being 38 years old Gauthier has had a very successful career since becoming a manager back in the summer of 2015. Previously he managed in New Caledonia and Macau obtaining ten trophies and numerous awards. Last season while coaching Sporting Clube de Macau he lead the team to a treble after being promoted from the second division a season earlier.

Chairman Olli-Pekka Lyytikäinen said, "I am very pleased that Kévin was open to managing us, he has an amazing track record in managing and we feel he would be a great assist to this club."

Gauthier has signed a three year contract until 30/11/2022 for €26,500 per year. The contract won't start until 25 November once the 2019 Veikkausliiga season ends. " I am very happy to join such a prestigious club and look forward to kicking off the new decade with this club, I promise you all we will go far in the 2020s," said the very enthusiastic Frenchman.

Until Gauthier takes over Director of Football Tuomo Saarnio will be taking over for the last month of the season. Once Gauthier is settled in on 1 December there will be an introductory press conference for all to meet him. In the mean time he will be here in Finland getting acclimated with the country and language.
