I took Newport County within one step of the Premiership before I gave up in FM09. It gets tedious trying to hang in there financially.
On FM 09 I took Gateshead from the Blue Square North to the Prem, took me a while to get it done and became very boring in some cases but once you get there it is a fun game to play :D
Try Staines from blue square south
Ant suggestions for something abroad???

How about trying to become the best team in the French league and overtake Lyon as the dominant team with somebody like AS Monaco or RC Lens. It's not too hard once you start challenging the like of Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille

German league is a personal fave. Bayern Munich are obviously the most well known of all the teams, but anyone who has been following can see how close it is at the top now. There are a lot of teams with very talented players, we all saw Wolfsberg give United a great game in the Champs, and there are loads of teams with potential.

Its always something different hey.
Italy is not bad take a team from Seria B and try to dominate in Seria A. Also eastern europe league are fun like russian league i personaly allways play Ukrainian league and its allways same teams Shakhtar and Dynamo win most of the games. But teams like Metalist Dnipro have real potential. See if u can go and win champions league with them :) Russian league has good teams wit money too Spartak Zenith Lokomotive Rubin Kazan and Ofcurse CSKA moskov if u start a new game and save all the player that CSKA has man that could be a good team
I agree on German football, you can find very good teams, with good potential and talented home grown players, the league does not have any limitations on signings (i.e. work permits, foreign players etc) and there are 34 games i/o 38. Also the German players are not so expensive compared to other EU players and also you can loan players from your rivals... Curently managing Leverkusen and I loaned Badstuber from Bayern, which is a rival team... and I bought him in the summer... I have not achieved it in any other league. Give it a try, FC Bayern is not so good... I had more problems with HSV, Schalcke and Dortmund than with FC Bayern.
I'm really liking the German idea!! Does anyone know a team not in european competition but with a good structure??
Im another person looking to have a interesting game! Any suggestions on a club? Prefferably abroad?
murcia in spain :) 2nd division i believe
c22moore try Leverkusen... no euroepan comp, complete in every line, good reputation, enough money for tranfsers, but small stadium. Give it a try, I am in the 3rd season... and I will continue it for many years... Set as a challenge to win the championship, as they have never won it (that's why the Germans call them Neverkupen instead of Leverkusen... but I support them, as I liked their cl campaign in 2002). I am happy that in real life they are 1st in Bundesliga, but let's see if they remain there till the end.
