Another season, another fantastic start for us here at Manchester City. Within the first two months of the season we are topping the league and already have two pieces of silverware to our name.
The season started with the Community Shield fixture at Wembley in an exact replay of the same game last season. However, as opposed to losing on penalties to Arsenal this season, we actually won on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra-time as Mamadi Fernandes scored the winning penalty for us to get our hands on the first silverware of the season. August carried on the way it began as Kylian Mbappé led a 3-2 charge over West Ham United in the Premier League opener at London Stadium. This was followed by three more wins and three consecutive clean sheets against Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham and most significantly, Liverpool. Our winning run through August was then disrupted by a narrow 1-0 loss to Southampton - who started the season brightly, seizing top spot at one point.
September also began with a chance of winning silverware as we did so on penalties once again against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup. With a few first-teamers on international duty, Adam Shenton, Maflamory Sylla and Deivison William all stepped in to score a perfect round of five penalties after the game finished 1-1, bagging our second trophy of the season. The first Manchester Derby of the 2026/27 campaign ended dramatically as Mauro Icardi netted an unbelievably late 96th minute winner from the penalty spot after Phil Foden was brought down in the area. Our Champions League campaign began once again with Group B beginning with a fixture against my former team Fiorentina as I came up against some old faces with Kylian Mbappé sealing a 2-0 win with a brace. Our EFL Cup run started well with a 4-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers with Mbappé netting four goals in just 26 minutes of the game beginning. A 5-2 win against Arsenal saw us go top of the Premier League table at the end of September meanwhile we scored five for the second game in a row against our second Champions League challengers Benfica.
All of this means that we go to the top of the Premier League, level on 21 points with both Liverpool and Arsenal who trail behind us on goal difference only. Chelsea round off the top four on 16 points.
The newly promoted side West Brom have started their return to the top-flight well as they sit in mid-table, with the other two coming up from the Championship - Stoke City and Wolves - lay in 17th and 19th respectively. Huddersfield Town’s annual mid-table push has not gone too well at the start of this season as they finish September with seven losses out of eight and only three points on the board as they sit in 20th.
In the Champions League Group Stage, we top the group with two wins in two against Fiorentina and Benfica. The other team in the 2nd qualifying spot is Scottish Premiership side Celtic who have drawn both of their games but are still yet to face us in Group B.
Kylian Mbappé has met his expectations of the 2026/27 season as he rockets up to 13 goals in just 12 games, with his four goals against Wycombe helping him a lot. This way he is also achieved our squad’s best average rating score with a 7.70 rating. Leroy Sané leads the assists charts meanwhile Nobuhiro Furuya maintains his excellent standard of passing with 93% of his passes reaching his desired target.
With the first two months of August and September out of the way and off to a great start, let’s look at what October and November hold in store for us:
In October we begin at Leicester’s King Power Stadium before we head into the international break. We return to the Premier League with a home tie against Burnley before heading back into the Champions League Group Stage with an Etihad Stadium fixture against Celtic. We come back to the Premier League with a game against current bottom side Huddersfield. Oxford United in the EFL Cup 4th Round awaits following our 4-0 demolition of Wycombe thanks to Mbappé. The month is rounded off with a home fixture against Watford.
November begins with the return fixture against Celtic at Celtic Park before facing two mid-table sides in Everton and Newcastle United in the Premier League. A return to Artemio Franchi is in order in the middle of November as we take on my former team Fiorentina once again in the Champions League. November finishes with arguably our toughest domestic tie of the two months as Chelsea come up north to face us in a top-four clash.
