ScottT: To me he is one of the absolute greats of the 2010s, no doubt. We actually played very well, but Atléti with Simeone is always a tough game.

Umtiti out for five months

In the eventual 2-2 draw versus Atlético Madrid CF at Camp Nou in the third La Liga game of the season Barça centre back Samuel Umtiti was taken off due to knee discomfort. Further scans has confirmed the frenchmen out for approximately five months.

Samuel Umtiti has grown out to be a key player for Barça since joining the club from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2016. The centre back has made 86 apperances for the club, scoring twice.

Barça is now left with three senior team central defenders; Gerard Piqué, Clément Lenglet and Thomas Vermaelen. Among the options in Barça B are Chumi, Jorge Cuenca, Óscar Mingueza and Ronald Araújo.

The club wishes Samuel a quick recovery and hope to see him back at the pitch very soon.

Rafinha out for three months

In the eventual 5-0 win against SD Huesca in the fourth La Liga game of the season Barça midfielder Rafinha was taken off due to knee discomfort. Further scans has confirmed the brazilian out for approximately three months.

Rafinha, full name Rafael Alcântara do Nascimento, has made 84 apperances, scoring 11 goals, since his promotion from Barça B in 2013 and his loan spell at Celta Vigo in the 2013-14 season.

The club wishes Rafinha a quick recovery and hope to see him back at the pitch very soon.

Miranda gets his Barça debut

Barça's 5-0 win against SD Huesca was a game to remeber for left back Juan Miranda. The Barça youngster made his La Liga and official first team debut for FC Barcelona.

Juan Miranda González was born 19 January 2000 in Olivares. He joined La Masia from Real Betis in 2014 and made it to Barça B in 2014. Since his debut in the 2-1 win against Real Valladolid, the promising left back has went on to make 12 league apperances for the B team. He scored his first goal on 27 January 2018, netting the second in a 3–0 home win against Granada CF.

On international level Miranda has represented a number of Spanish youth national set ups. He was a part of the Spanish U17 team winning the UEFA U17 European Championship in 2017. Later the year the team ended the FIFA U17 World Cup as runner-up.

Alba extends contract

FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba signed a contract renewal for the player on Thursday morning, an agreement that will keep Alba at Barça through June 30, 2022. The buyout clause has been raised from €150m to €300m.

Jordi Alba Ramos was born on 21 March 1989 in L'Hospitalet. Alba spent seven years at La Masia between 1998 and 2005 but then left the club and came through the ranks at Valencia CF. In 2012, after the European Championship which saw Spain as winners after 4-0 in the final against Italy, Alba returned to Barça.

Alba has played a total of 271 games and scored 14 goals in his 6 seasons with the first team. He also holds an extraordinary list of 14 titles won, including 4x La Liga, 4x Copa del Rey, 1x UEFA Champions League, 1x FIFA Club World Cup, 1x UEFA Super Cup, and 3x Supercopa de España.

First team debut for Chumi

Following the injuries of first team central defender Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen, Barça B player Chumi has been called up for a numerous first team games. In the 6-0 win at Camp Nou against Deportivo Alavés, the centre back got his first team debut.

Juan Brandáriz Movilla was born the 2nd of March 1999 in A Laracha. He joined La Masia from Deportivo la Coruña in 2014 and was promoted to Barça B in 2018. During his time a Juvenil A he won the UEFA Youth League in May 2018. Chumi made his Barça B debut on the 2nd of September 2018, starting in a 1–2 away loss against UD Cornellá. Since then he has made a total of five apperances for Barça B and is one of the key players of the team.

September review

August saw Barça unbeaten in La Liga. Although two draws against Atlético Madrid CF and Villarreal CF was the negative aspect of the month. Barça also kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win against Galatasaray ŞK.

October preview

Barça go into October unbeaten in both La Liga and UEFA Champions League. With seven games ahead and another International break, October will be a busy month for Barça.

The group stage of UEFA Champions League continues with Round 2 and Round 3. Barça will face Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and Ukranian side FC Shakthar Donetsk.

Aleñá gets his first La Liga goal

Carles Aleñá was brought on for injured Philippe Coutinho as the first substitute with just 30 minutes remaining of the game against Real Betis in the 7th Round of La Liga. This was Aleñá's sixth apperance in La Liga. The 20-year old played a fine game and it would get better. In the third additional minute Aleñá got his first La Liga goal for Barça.

For the goal, Aleñá controlled possession in the midfield third before quickly laying off the ball to Busquets who found Messi. Aleñá then waited for a gap to appear between the two centre-backs where he was found with a through ball from Messi and elegantly chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper. It was a confident finish and Aleñá celebrated the goal together with his team mates.

Carles Aleñá was born in Mataró in 1998. He joined La Masia at 7 years of age in 2005 and has raised through the ranks at Barça. He made his Barça B debut in 2015. In November 2016 he made his senior Barça debut, starting and scoring the equalizer in an away draw against Hércules CF in Copa del Rey. Since then Aleña has made 10 first team apperances and he was promoted to the first team in the summer of 2018.
