Klopp: Champions League Heartbreak Will Spur Us On

Motivated: Klopp is determined to avoid Silver medals next time around

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been looking back at the pain of his team's Champions League Final defeat in the summer, and has sworn that his squad will give everything to avoid heartbreak this season. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Klopp set out his stall for the new season;

Jürgen Klopp:
We've brought in some really good guys - Alisson, Naby and Fabinho have all been training well and I'm looking forward to the new season. Michael [Edwards, Liverpool's Director of Football] has some special deals hopefully coming soon too, he's very good at what he does and I'm very happy.
This season we know we have to continue to play our game; we had a tough game against Madrid and if we played it again the result might be different, but you don't get to quit and re-load in football, and we have got to push on and take our own game to a new level.

Focus on ourselves, that is what is important. Not on what Pep is doing, or what Ramos is doing, or who is in charge at x, y and z clubs. Liverpool is what matters. This season means more.

Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to my latest Football Manager adventure, where I take over Liverpool, and leave the boy genius that is Michael Edwards in charge of all of my transfer business. Now, you might be sitting there thinking "what the F***" are you on, you crazy crazy lady?!

Well, it's simple - I give our Mikey a list of the players I want to bring in, and a list of the players I want to sell, and he does all the legwork. He arranges contracts, he makes the transfer bids, he touts Alberto Moreno to League 2 clubs who are suddenly not in need of a Left Back. I suppose my only hope is that he doesn't absolutely shaft me by paying outrageous wages!

I'm about four months into the save already, so the first few updates will fly through our transfer business and the tactical set-up, and then we can get into the nitty gritty of the save! I've not set myself any goals for the save, but I want to develop some youngsters through the club's academy system, and also master using the DoF to get us some cracking deals for players.

Very good structure, many people start a big club story but don't push on (I have been guilty of this before as well), I hope you get yourself invested in this!

Busy Transfer Window as Klopp Looks to Future

Buddy Up: Leipzig Star Timo Werner is set to join former team-mate Naby Keita at Anfield

Following the disappointment of last season, Jürgen Klopp has spent his summer working with Director of Football Michael Edwards to transform his squad and address the lack of depth which many believe cost Liverpool so dearly last season.

Before today, Klopp had already confirmed the addition of four new faces: Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, Monaco defensive midfielder Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri from relegated Stoke City.

Liverpool's Director of Football Michael Edwards has continued to work on reshaping the squad, working closely with Klopp to offload weaker aspects and bring in players who strengthen in key areas. In addition to the departures of Danny Ward, Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan, and Emre Can, there have been a number of further departures from the club this summer.

Transfers In

Timo Werner - RB Leipzig - £54m

Antonio Marin - Dinamo - £1.5m

Benjamin Pavard - Stuttgart - £39m

Alex Telles - FC Porto - £21m

Sandro Tonali - Brescia - £3.1m

Josha Vagnoman - HSV - £9m

Transfers Out

Nathaniel Clyne - Newcastle - £15m

Adam Lallana - Arsenal - £39m

Divock Origi - Watford - Loan

Lazar Markovic - Eintracht Frankfurt - £4.5m

Dominic Solanke - Roma - £7.5m

Alberto Moreno - Lazio - £10.5m

Overall, the feel around the club is that this transfer window has made a huge impact to the squad, offloading players that for a long time were seen as weak links, and bringing in some true quality for both immediate impact, and longer-term development. Speaking to the club's website, manager Jürgen Klopp was buoyant, stating that "Michael [Edwards] has done an incredible job this summer, and the squad is in a very strong position now to be challenging for titles and trophies. I hope that we can press on and mount a real challenge this year.

Some very shrewd business there. The incomings are strong, with real impetuous towards the future in many of them. Timo Werner will certainly boost the attacking options - Salah, Mane, Werner and Firmino look an unstoppable group of players.

Marin, Tonali and Vagnoman are all great options for the future and will be ones to watch.

Whereas Telles and Pavard are young players that could easily break their way into the starting XI. Pavard, especially, comes into the new season full of confidence, after winning the World Cup with France. Telles has been highly-touted for some time and I'm keen to see how he does under Klopp.

Some unsurprisingly outgoings such as Markovic, Moreno and Origi, albeit only on loan. Clyne is a slight surprise, but a good fee has been recouped for him.

The money gained from the Lallana sale is hugely surprising, as whilst he is a top player, who I expected to remain at Liverpool, would not be someone I'd spend that sort of money for. The same can be said for Solanke.

Good luck ahead of the season!

Werner is a signing I'd be very keen to see Liverpool make in real life, would give us another attacking dimension if and when Firmino gets injured!
