Everton FC - Toffees Finally Unstuck

It has almost been two decades since Everton last finished above Liverpool in a competitive league season, they have only in that time achieved 5th place three times and now with the current dominance across the world of their Merseyside rivals, the two clubs have never been so apart in terms of quality on and off the field. The Toffees have been on a constant downward spiral since the departure of David Moyes in 2012 and with no less than seven managerial appointments, temporary or permanent, not one has managed to close the gap and attempt to overtake Liverpool, minus Roberto Martinez’s first season in charge, the rest have been pretty dire for the blues..

Without a single domestic piece of silverware since 1995, the peoples club, have not much to cheer about. Under new ownership with majority stakeholder Farhad Moshiri, the Iranian billionaire spending around £450million on new recruits at Goodison Park, yet has seen nothing in return for his spend and he vows to continue until Merseyside is painted Blue for as long as it can.

Since the departure of Marco Silva, the Everton job has been a much sought after job with plenty of candidates expressing their interest in the job, but with Duncan Ferguson’s controversy over subbing off Moise Kean at Old Trafford, Moshiri now has put Ferguson last in the queue for the job but there is massive talks over the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Arsene Wenger taking the hot seat at Goodison but the odds on and a surprising favourite is Corey Eaton-McKnight, who despite a lack of Premier League experience is hoping to guide this once successful club back to where it belongs and bring smiles back on the faces of Everton fans for once and for all. Something tells me it's going to be Eaton-McKnight...

Everton have today appointed outside favourite Corey Eaton-McKnight as their new manager on a two year deal, worth £45,000 per week.

Upon his appointment; Corey had a few words to say to Everton TV.

“I am delighted to be given this fantastic opportunity to manage this massive club, I understand fans expectations, and it has just not been going right for them here in recent years and my aim is to turn that on the head, both Moshiri and Kenwright have been superb with me in the few days here; friendly and welcoming, showing me around these fantastic facilities which I can’t wait to get started with”

The 22 year old is a vastly inexperienced manager, but has a lot of knowledge and contacts within the game helping him along the way. Chairman Moshiri has promised to continue his free-spending and will give whatever it takes to become the dominant force Merseyside.

“Here at Everton, I do not believe in set transfer budgets. You look at Liverpool, do their owners say to Klopp as much as you want to sign this player, we can’t because it is over budget, no. They signed Alisson, Van Dijk and Fabinho to name some, Jurgen said I need this player in this position whatever the cost we need them and now look how they have improved. The situation is similar here; if Corey needs a player in a certain position and he costs £60mil and I feel it will improve the team I will not turn the signing away, to improve you need to spend big nowadays”






As promised, Corey was promised no transfer budget but to spend where necessary to improve this side, but will have to clear up some of the squad so there is a fair balance of current and new players with eight new faces but with all business done prior to the August - hopefully the new signings gel quickly before the opener against Norwich, but not all are first choice signings. Here is a brief into some of the new faces through the door.

Marin Pongragic - A solid strong and tall centre back was the first in, from Red Bull Salzberg the young Croatian has bags of potential to be something special. I said in this save, I wanted to build a solid team similar to the likes of the United and Chelsea sides in the past. I feel that Marin will be a centre back for the next six or so seasons for me at least, he is only 21 at the moment and hopefully with the right training, I am hoping he turns out to be the present Nemanja Vidic.

Alfredo Morelos - Well, he is a proper Everton sort of striker. A perfect fit into this team for me, he will slowly come through I will give Calvert-Lewin a chance; but slowly Morelos will start and get some goals and be a nightmare for opposition defenders. He is a powerful natural finisher who can steady the ship for the first season or two.

James Maddison - Well with Sigurdsoon out of the door, I needed another free-kick taker to come in, the price was high but the potential outweighs the current price I have paid for Maddison, his form both in real life and pre-season have been brilliant, so let’s hope he can live up to his real life potential and become a player for the next 5 or so seasons.

Bruno Guimaraes - With Gbamin out for half of the season, I needed to strengthen my defensive midfield with the likelihood of losing Schneiderlin, who does not fit into my style and the calibre of players I am looking to sign and use with this side. I do not know much about him, except that he is one of the highly rated players on the game; so this signing is a punt based on the reviews.

Love an Everton save, my English team due to their tendency to sign Rangers players and you have continued the trend! Hope Morelos plays as well in the Premiership as he does in Scotland as he tears it up in game.

Really going to have to live up to that plan with the money spent!

Everton head into the Merseyside derby as huge underdogs and having not won at Anfield in 18 years this stat does not like changing anytime soon with the red side constantly improving and getting better game by game. However, going into this game, Everton were surprisingly ahead of their rivals in the league with the Toffees 4th and the reds 10th but any home win would take them above Everton in the league.

It has been a good start for me so far this season, with five gone we have won three, drawn one and lost one whereas Liverpool; won two, drawn one and lost two.

Richarlison is the top scorer with 3 goals and our best player has been James Maddison. Alfredo Morelos will be looking to grab his first goal in Everton colours, having played five and not managed to find the net yet.

Liverpool, we know where they are dangerous - everywhere, they are solid in every position but despite a slow start they will be up there in May, without a shadow of a doubt - their top scorer so far is Roberto Firminio with 3.

For Everton, only Theo Walcott is out injured other than that, it is a full strength side to choose from.

Liverpool are without Alisson who has torn his calf muscle.

I have decided to make two changes going into my first Merseyside derby, Alex Iwobi who grabbed an 87th minute equaliser against Bournemouth comes in and replaces Bernard. Dominic Calvert-Lewin replaces Morelos.


1 - Everton get us under way and give the ball away within the first 40 seconds of the game, Liverpool get a corner, which reaches Mane but is safely cleared by Milenkovic.

3 - Van Dijk

16 - Sidibe intercepts and clears only for the ball to find Lallana on the volley. However; Pongracic put his body on the line.

17 - The first chance for the away side; Guimaraes finds Iwobi but the chance is headed just over. Everton are holding on tight here and are still lucky to be in the game.

18 - GOAL. Liverpool's dominance pays off, Salah whipped a ball in to Mane who rose above Sidibe and headed into the top right hand corner and out of Pickfords reach. 1-0 to the hosts.

20 - Milenkovic

24 - A save for Adrian; Iwobi played a long ball to Calvert-Lewin and with good interplay, eventually the ball finds Iwobi again who heads straight at Adrian.

26 - Lallana free in space and plenty of time on the ball but his effort was pushed away by Pickford.

39 - GOAL. 2-0, Salah corner to the far post finds Van Dijk who comfortably heads home.

45 - Robertson

45+3. Half time, and we trail 2-0 at the break. Lets hope for a better second period and I am still positive we can get back into this game.

Everton were just simply undone by world class talent, there is not much more to say about this than they are the best team in the league and the world, we at the moment can only aspire to be on their level but we will get there and when we do get there then these derbies which be a lot less one sided. We move on now to our next game against Blackburn in round 3 of the league cup and a good chance for silverware this season.

A massive massive transfer window there, with some great young players coming in there with Maddison Berge and Pongragic all able to play a big part in your future. A shame to lose that fist derby but 2-0 isn't the worst result!
