Hey guys! I struggle in Champions League knockout phase away games particularly against Liverpool. Lost once in QF and again in SF the following year.

any tips on how to get past them??

I am using PSG with a 4-3-3. Signed Alcantara Thiago in my second season.

i have not lost any game prior to playing Liverpool in the Semi-Final in my second season. In the first season I was outclassed by the english side? Any help?
Don't get them in the draw would be my best advice, they are pretty much unstoppable.

Wow! That’s good advice. Haha, like I said for my first two seasons. That’s virtually impossible.
Ok if you want something worthwhile you are PSG so you stomp over most opposition with your better players. I imagine you are using by default a postivie/attacking tactic & thinking your team are rather good.

The problem is Liverpool are better then you and you have to adjust your tactics in the correct areas to deal with their better players. You can't go in to games against better opposition and expect your tactic that is better against lesser opposition to work.

I beat them in final with Lazio with an adjusted mentality Beowulf, (was 2032 though) and in first knockout with Juve 3 seasons later using an adapted and adjusted mentality Camouflage tactic. But don't know if would have been as effective in the the early 2020s

2032? Lol, I can't wait that long though.

in my first season I won the first leg 3-0. i was surprised, the second leg I saw a whole different animal. regardless of the mentality I used. it was terrible. they won 5-0.

I want to say its unrealistic but then I remember the real Liverpool did that to Barcelona in 2019. is that what SI is trying to recreate with Liverpool?
I will try again to win the UCL with PSG in the third season. but for now, I have taken a break from that save.

I actually miss playing as a lesser team, I completely forgot about that. I tried matching Liverpool toe to toe. started balanced and played on the front foot when I conceded. that opened the gates for them to finish me off. thanks, @Si49 I'll play to my strengths now.

thanks. I haven't really used downloaded tactics for top sides. I tend to use them only in the lower leagues, with minor tweaks to suit their less technical players. I'll try adapting a few KnapTactics and maybe be more cautious in the latter stages of the UCL.
Liverpool are a GG Press team. They will try to throttle you. They also have great pace at the back so they set up well against the counter attack.

I haven't played at that level for a while but thinking about what I would do as a lesser team would be to drastically slow down my tempo and shorten my passing, when we have the ball we don't want launching it back to them as the first/only option. You have to try to play through a Counter Press, when/if you do then you have A). Possession so they can't attack as much and B). You can then look to attack their weakness which will definitely be an over comital of players. Once you get through their press you should have room to play.

I would defend slightly deeper than usual, ask my full backs if playing them to sit more, possibly go less attacking shape wise & two banks of four them. This would be to deal with their crazy full backs & also to provide closer options to play through the press. Mentality I'd lower but only to Balanced as we still want intent with the ball.

Basically I'd set up to invite pressure but then try to play through their over-aggressiveness.
