I have been playing as Burton in League 2. In my first season I used a mix of my own basic 4-1-2-2-1 tactic and that Ghost tactic. I won the Johnstone Paint Trophy and missed promotion by one penalty shot in the playoffs. My striker was the highest scorer of the league. Well that season went well, I had lots of good bench play and had great young cheap signings who performed well.

My second season starts, I make lots of moves and I improve my team (on paper). The first 10 or so games I average 3-5 goals a game mainly using the Ghost tactic. Then suddenly points come harder to get, yet I'm shooting just as much as I was. My shots off target ratio is A LOT worse than it used to be.

I don't understand whats going on, I'm not getting reports of complacency and my finishing stats across my team are equal or more than they used to be. Is it just bad luck or is there a tangible problem I can fix?
I think it is a bad luck but you may try in team talk say to one player that ypu have faith in him or somthing like that.
Every pep talk, pre game and half time, I do "I have faith" to everyone. It usually gets the get results and in my feedback it still is working. SO yea, it may just be bad luck.
call me paranoid but i think its built into the game. start getting too good for your own good and

-opposition keeper gets man of the match every game, pulls of wonder saves with 10 for reactions
-your striker with 20finishing+composure places 1 on 1s off target from the 6yrd box 9times per game
-opposition score 25yrd+ wonder goals with the ease of penalties

the only way i get by when this happens is to put more upfront and play narrow and try and get square ball tap in's or rebounds as open play results in me coming closer and closer to putting my fist through another monitor!

I had made a thread about the same thing. It happens that if you go about 10-12 games unbeaten (especially with a team of not very high reputation), then you will DEFINITELY get punished in the next game.
Found this the other day that was quite interesting. Basically it says that there is a script in the game where if your team is doing really well and performing way above expectations then occasionally it will make a single game pretty much unwinnable.
im playin as aldershot first season i got promoted via the play-offs from league 2,
the second season i won league 1,
if u constantly rotate your team strikers espessially then you are likely to advoid this problem i went 49 games unbeaten.
so give it a try it works for me im 3rd in championship now and 19 unbeaten

couldn't that script be obsolete if someone would cheat, i mean loading the game several times till you win?

when i did that, not so long ago,but not in 2011 version, I once made a whole season of wins!

In FM 2010, when I was fairly new to Football Manager, I used to do this a lot. I remember one time when, as Manchester United with a team of almost all the best players in every position, I was playing Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League. I must have saved and reloaded the game at least 20 times, and every time I ended up losing. Most times, I lost by a 2 goal margin, sometimes by 1 and sometimes by 3. I think only once or twice did I have a draw.

Here's how I look at it:

The game is not designed to be played fairly. The designers would not want to design a game for people who would employ the save and reload tactic in order to build a perfect season. They would expect that, like in real life, your team would play shit in one match and as a manager, you take it on the chin and concentrate on the next match. Therefore, you maybe would not notice this probability marker at all if you played continuously.

The problem is that sometimes, it's difficult to digest how a League One team can COMPREHENSIVELY beat the league leaders of Premier League by completely outplaying them. Just as it would be highly unrealistic to have a team win 38 league matches in a season, it would be equally unrealistic to watch an extremely low level team smash a top-level team (which is in good form).

I guess you have a point, the objective of this game as a simulator is to 'simulate' reality!
and as we know, there's not an 'all winning team'

Well the season I was on when I started this thread I ended up winning the division. My third season starts, I make as many moves as I financially can to have a good team. After my team got gelled I made a run of 20 games averaging 2-4 goals. Well January/February rolls around and the exact same thing is happening to me again. All of my strikers are 400 to 600 minute goal droughts. My teams lead scorer is my DC corner header guy.

So to get on topic with my quote, I do rotate them regularly but they all need to take out their tampons and score. I guess it is the game trying to keep me down. But at the same time I'm still 3 points in 1st place.
