2013-04-29 21:47#96405 PaukerJ : Great mate! :) The sell was better than a free transfer!

You might not have seen the last twist and turn in the Eloy Àlvarez story.
I want to thank everybody who have had the patient to stay with this story thru spelling mistakes and infrequent updates and made it part of the exclusive 10.000 views club.

I specially want to thank everybody who has taken time to comment on the story. Those comments helped me push thru the dark days in the Spanish 3rd division.
Keep them comming.

Now back to work on the next 10.000 views.

Everybody loves a winner

With winning came distractions. Suddenly everybody wanted a bit of our time. Where the players before had walked straight to the team bus or cars after games they now had to deal with reporters from both local and national media. After games and even practices reporters from MARCA and “Diario de Mallorca” all wanted quotes and news for next day’s paper.
There were rumors in iHOLA! that young right midfielder Francisco Coloma had started to date a super model living in Palma.

We even had a TV-team showing up at a practice on day. I still to this day believe they were just lost.

In November there were a long article in MARCA about how I had been the first choice for the vacant manager job in Soria for C.D. Numancia and how I had turned the offer down.
The story went on to describe how C.D. Numancia instead had managed to get Robin van Persie to take over as manager.
I politely declined to comment on the story but also did not deny it.

Despite all these new disturbances we managed to keep our heads down and kept winning.

Teodoro Bañares had been the man of the hour. As the lone striker but with heavy support from the three attacking midfielders, Bañares scored goals like he had done nothing else for his entire life. In the first eleven games of the season he had scored eleven goals and had done it with an ease never before seen by a C.D. Constància striker. Even thou his pace slowed down after the first months of the season we remained an ever present danger in the opponent’s penalty box.

It looked like we had finally found the striker we had missed so sorely and I did not waste any time getting his contract renewed out 2022.

Robin van Persie

RvP have hade a strange career in the save.

Robin van Persie had a brilliant career with Manchester United but in February of 2015 something happened that would change his career forever.

Ever since the arrival of Marek Hamsik from Napoli in 2013 the career of RvP was doomed. It was just a question and how and when it would happen.
Ferguson managed to get them to coexist but when he retired in the start of 2015 and was replaced by Jürgen Klopp it quickly turned sour.

In a stunning move, Klopp went on to ship Robin van Persie to Everton on a loan deal for the remaining of the season. RvP had a good half season with Everton helping them secure another season in the EPL and he did come back to Manchester the next season but the damage was done. By now it was Hamsiks team (he had been named the captain).

van Persie was released by Man U after he had helped the team win the 2016/17 season.
He decided to retire from professional football and instead acquired a Continental B Coaching license.

As his first job as a manager he took on the job as manager for C.D. Numancia in the Spanish second division LIGA adelante. He last exactly a year before he was sacked. In that one year he accomplished very little and the team stayed around mid table the entire period Robin van Persie was there.

The day before Christmas in 2019 Mark Robson walks out on Coventry to take over as manager in Nottm Forest and his replacement is no other then Robin van Persie.

RvP takes over a Coventry team doing reasonable in the middle of the npower Championship. It’s the teams first season back in the npower Championship after three seasons in the npower League 1.

From the day van Persie takes over the team and for the reminder of the 2019/20 season the team only wins a single game (1-0 @ home over Swindon in late Mars 2020). They do have 13 draws and “only” eight losses.
That was just enough for the team to secure another year in the npower Championship.
Looks like his managerial career has taken a bumpy start! Hamsik as captain after just three seasons at united? Thats a bold move by Klopp :o I doubt RVP will ever become a managerial great but im looking forward to you doing that with CD Constancia
Constancia for BBVA!
Damn. Van Persie hasn't flopped at managing yet. I'm sure he will soon, like you will soon be a Constáncia legend. P.S: I just realised that I've been spelling Constáncia wrong, in fact Costancia :D

Belgium

2016

After impressive wins over both Italy and Portugal in friendly’s leading up to the European Championship in France, the team only managed a 1-1 draw with Israel just a few days before the start of the tournament.

A draw was also the result of the first game in the tournament against Greece. In the second game against the Czech Republic the team showed what kind of damage they could inflict with a dominating 4-1 win. The last game of the group play against Germany was meaningless as both teams had already qualified for the next round so a 1-1 draw was a surprise to nobody.

In the first knockout round Belgium again looked fantastic. They scored four goals against Croatia in under twenty minutes with Fellaini opening the scoring already in the first minute.

In the quarterfinal they were suddenly huge favorites against a Slovakia team that had slipped almost unnoticed in to the quarterfinals and the Belgium press was filed with speculation about who Belgium would play in the semi-final and final.

Slovakia scored early and Belgium struggled to respond. They had to wait until three minutes inn to extra time before Benteke scored the equalizer. No goals was scored in the extra 30 minutes and it all came down to penalty’s were Slovakia was the better/luckier team.

While Belgium travelled home, Slovakia went on to beat Italy in the semifinals before losing to Spain in the final.

In the fall Belgium started the World Cup qualifiers with two wins but also two losses. One of the losses was a horrible 0-4 loss to the same Croatia team they had just beaten heavily in the European Championship.

2017

Belgium played well all thru the World Cup qualifying in 2017 but so did Croatia. The points dropped in 2016 and a loss in the last game to Croatia (again) sent Belgium to second in the group. In two playoff games against Hungary the dominated and won convincing 6-1 over two games. Belgium’s golden generation had qualified for the World Cup in Russia.

Canceled

It looked like it was going to be a marry x-mas in Inca, Mallorca in the winter of 2018/19. The day before Christmas we played the number two team Hércules C.F. in a fun game that finished 3-3. That meant that we would go in to a three week break undefeated and 11 points clear of our closest competitors Real Valladolid in second place.

When the guys packed up their bags and headed out the door for their holidays they all took their goodbyes with Eloy Àlvarez. Nobody said a word but the irony that we were first in the LIGA adelante with an excellent chance to earn promotion and that Àlvarez new team Las Palmas was dead last in the LIGA BBVA almost destined to go down already, was not lost on anyone.

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q173/Nordskov_dk/CD%20Constancia/45c_zpsea1ff227.jpg

While the rest of the team got ready for the holidays I started the work to find the replacement that could fill the void after Eloy Àlvarez on the AML. There was no denying that Eloy had been a good player for us and that he would be hard to replace.

After not have been approached a single time in the previous five years the offers was now coming in a steady stream. This time it was Burnley F.C. from the bottom of the npower Championship who wanted me as there manager. Once again I declined before I had finished reading the entire e-mail.

The fax came thru on the second of January. First I thought it was the confirmation on the money transfer from Las Palmas but when I looked closer at the paperwork it was something completely different.

Las Palmas had just canceled the Eloy Àlvarez deal!!

No explanation. Just a fax stating that the Eloy Àlvarez deal was not going to happen. I tried to get someone from Las Palmas on the phone but they were not willing to talk and explain what happened. There was no help either from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the governing body of football in Spain. They could not help me either.

I just have to accept that the deal was dead.

It did not help much that Eloy Àlvarez and his agent was standing outside my door lying to the press telling how much he wanted to stay in Inca. Just minutes before they had been in my office and refused to even listen to any offers of a new deal to keep him on Mallorca.

The new deal was done a few hours later. Àlvarez had signed a deal that would take him to Cordoba C.F. (in division three) at the end of the season. The bad news was that I had to deal with him for the rest of the season in Inca but much more importantly that C.D. Constància would not receive any compensation for him leaving now as a free agent.

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q173/Nordskov_dk/CD%20Constancia/45b_zps43e4bd46.jpg

There was no way that Eloy Àlvarez would get more playing time in C.D. Constància while I was the manager. For a few moments I considered ordering him to train with the goalkeepers for the rest of the season but in the end cooler heads prevailed and he was just left off the team.

The streak came to an end in the dying days of January when we lost at home to R.C. Celta SAD.
It was the first loss in twenty-one games. We still maintained a ten point’s lead in the league but the fact that we also lost Coloma for three months with a torn hamstring was not good. With just three days to the transfer deadline we now had to find both a right and a left attacking midfielder.

It’s strange. The more I update the more views and comment I get.

BeanyUnited : Harsh mate! Good results though :)

I could really use the money.

I was not happy when I saw that news.
After doing some reading on the SI-board I feel a bit better about my struggles in the lower Spanish leagues. Apparently I am not the only one struggling with the promotion system and the financial structure in Spain.

That’s what happens when you date a supermodel

Where everything came easy in the first half of the season, the second part was more of a struggle. The 11 points advantage was still there but we were now starting to leave a lot of points on the table.

We struggled with injuries with several of our regulars starters out for an extended period.

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q173/Nordskov_dk/CD%20Constancia/46A_zpsb3d525bd.jpg

The player who struggled the most was Francisco Coloma. The young attacking midfielder had allegedly been dating model Clara Alonso for several weeks but now it was over (according to iHola) and the effect on the young player was so big that even the coaches noticed at his determination took a nosedive from 20 to just 10.

On the pitch we caught a break in early April when we won 2-1 over second place team Valladolid on the road in a game where we had to play without Polat (suspension), Campoy (injury) and Bañares (condition). It did not help when Davide Corso sent off after just seven minutes of play but the remaining players still managed to pull out a win. That took the league lead back up to 14 points with a game in hand.
