With the upcoming opening fixtures of the premier league this weekend Sky’s Jamie Redknapp reviews each premier league team’s preseason reviewing the transfers, results as well as season predictions.
I myself was surprised to see Alan take such a difficult role in his first venture into management. I myself was offered the job but thought it was too much to take with no experience. However I must say Alan has done a terrific job in the short time he has been at the club, he has brought many new additions to the back room staff including the likes of: Joe Jordan, Peter Grant and Clive Allen whom where all good players themselves but have huge coaching experience and will serve as great lieutenants alongside Hansen this forthcoming season.
Transfers
There were a total of four players that joined the club during the pre-season window all of which were on permanent deals, as well as an astounding sixteen players leaving the club including Joe Cole.
Transfers in:
Ademilson - £5.25M
Hansen looked to strengthen the attacking options in the window and the 18 year old Brazilian international suited the bill. It is apparent from the games so far he has a bright future ahead of him but Hansen has admitted the youngster will not be a starter in the season to allow him to settle in England as well as develop to reach his full potential. I’d expect to see him move on loan at some point to aid his development.
Leon Goretzka - £3M
Again this transfer seems to fit the theme from this window that Hansen was looking towards the future and rebuilding the club for the long-term. The 17 year old German centre midfelder has already been likened to club captain Steven Gerrard and it will be interesting to see if some form of mentorship will be encouraged by Hansen to see if Leon can reach them lofty heights. I would also expect to see the player make a short term loan move at some point to develop further.

Jack Butland - £5M
I think everyone knows the future Jack has ahead of him with his impressive showing in the Olympics this summer as well has making his first full England cap all before the age of 19. Hansen see’s Jack as the long term replacement for Reina and believes that with the two of them working alongside each other for a few years will allow the transition to be a smooth one when the time comes. Jack as well as a few others will most likely be loaned out to give him the competitive games needed to make the first team.

Edison Cavani - £26M
At first you think this is a very big risk move for a lot of money, especially when you consider that much of the transfer fee is based on incentives due to the fact the club cannot afford a player for this price in cash and if Edinson flops it may lose Hansen’s job. However, the more you think about it the cleverer it is by Hansen firstly he has paired international colleagues Suarez and Cavani together who both are prolific for Uruguay but when you think that they are both individually arguably the best strikers in the world at the moment it leaves Liverpool with a strong forward line something they have liked since the season they finished 2nd with Torres in such superb form.
Transfers Out:
Many players left the club during the summer most of which were loans to develop the exciting prospects within the ranks at Liverpool including: Jack Robinson, John Flanagan, Andre Wisdom, Jonjo Shelvey, Conor Coady and Adam Morgan among others.
Three players that left the club permanently where: Brad Jones, Doni and Joe Cole. The first two are pretty self explanatory but the departure of Joe is another astute move by Hansen it allowed him firstly to free up a large chunk of the wage budget (£90,000 to be precise) but also engineered the signing of Cavani whom will be far more beneficial to the club long term than Joe.

Prediction
I personally believe despite my doubts at the start of his reign Hansen has got the club going in the right direction and I fully see them qualifying for the Europa League at least and maybe with an outside chance with Champions League qualification.
