Heynckes Retires

Bayern München Jupp Heynckes has shocked the football world by announcing his retirement - effective immediately. The 67-year-old was scheduled to retire at the end of the 2012/13 season and be replaced by former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, but has instead decided to pull the plug on his 33-year-old managerial career before the start of the season.

In the press conference announcing his decision, he had this to say.

"I felt it was the right time to quit. I've been involved in football since I was 18 and now I'm 67. I've spent most of my life in the sport, and I do love it very much but I think that now I just need to kick back and enjoy life. I've thoroughly enjoyed my career - especially at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern München - and I want to thank everyone at all the clubs I've managed and played for. I spoke to the president Uli Hoeneß about my decision and he understood where I was coming from. I apologize to the Bayern fans for leaving on such short notice, and I thank them for being so warm to me in my three spells here in Munich."

Heynckes' retirement leaves a problem for the Bavarian giants. His replacement Pep Guardiola's contract starts only in the summer of 2013, so they will either need re-negotiate his contract to start now, or appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Die Bayern fans will certainly be hoping that Guardiola starts his reign at the club immediately, but it remains to be seen if the Spaniard is keen to do so as well.

Awesome! I'm Bayern right now in my current save - i started with freiburg and then got offered the Bayern job after 2 years! Things get very easy so you have to have a good plan for youth and also players like ribery and robben sucked for me when i took over so shifted them very quickly and after my first season shifted mandzukic too but I'm excited to see someone do a story with Bayern

people always say going a 'BIG' team makes it easy but the bundeliga is a hard league so i dont think itll be a walk in the park. Good luck with this Arvind good to see you writing looking forward to seeing what your transfers in/out will be like

Guardiola: I'm Not Ready

Former Barca manager Pep Guardiola has rocked Bayern Munich this week after he stated that he was not ready to take up the job this summer.

"My contract with Bayern Munich starts in July 2013 and I will not join them any earlier than that. I have always said even when I was with Barcelona that I will be taking a year's break before getting back into management. I will still be following Bayern and be keeping in touch with the club." he said.

Guardiola has been spending his time in New York City, and despite a visit from Sir Alex Ferguson and serious interest from Chelsea, he opted to sign a contract with Bayern.

Bayern have now started a hunt for potential caretakers until the end of the season. Chelsea's Champions League winning manager Roberto di Matteo has been thrown around by several newspapers, but according to sources he is not willing to sign on a short-term basis. There are no other solid candidates for the job, however rumours say that Bayern are looking to promote from within rather than hire another manager with a different playing style.

k1rups(first comment): I don't think I've ever seen a Bayern story on site so I decided to do one. Robbery(Robben and Ribery) are key parts of my plans for the first two seasons, but with the likes of Shaqiri in my ranks plus some good regens, they won't last for more than two seasons.

Mark: It has been a while since I wrote a story. And indeed, the Bundesliga is quite competitive. My main competitors are no doubt Dortmund and Schalke, but Wolfsburg(won the league 3 years ago), Bremen, HSV and Gladbach are all good teams. Thanks for commenting.

yeahh i havent seen a bayern story either so im glad to see this one...ah i sold shaqiri to barcelona when i took them over for 25 million euros and bought the ox...definitely interested to see the tactics that you'll use and the transfers you make!!

Bayern reveal their new manager

Bayern Munich have announced that former goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will take over as manager of the first team for the 2012/13 season.

"The Titan" racked up 429 appearances for Bayern during his 14 year stay at the club as a goalkeeper. Kahn, who is of Latvian descent, also won 86 caps for Germany after replacing Andreas Kopke as the #1 between the sticks for the national side.

Kahn retired as a player in 2008. In 2009 he was offered the role of Schalke manager, however, he turned it down. He received his coaching license in 2010, but has never expressed his desire to enter management until now.

President Uli Hoeneß said this in an interview - "We're happy to have Oliver on board. He has this influence on other people. When he walks into a room, you can't help but notice him. He's a leader on and off the pitch and he's one of the most ambitious and professional people I've ever met. It doesn't matter that he hasn't managed before - I'm sure he'll be a great manager."

The fans' spokesperson stated that they were glad to have a club icon back, and will give him time to prove his managerial ability.
