Target mans in patch v10.3?

I am controlling palermo and playing 4-3-3(2MC-1AMC-AML-AMR-SC) Hulk is my striker(poacher)and he is unstoppable. I bought lukaku for a replacement for future but I am not experienced about big guys.can you give me any advice like
which role you are giving to them? or maybe a new formation like 2scs

I use the same formation as you for my Liverpool team. Its only three seasons in as I started patch 3 only recently.

When I play Lukaku I set him as an Advanced Forward and play the ball to head. This is because he has decent dribbling and finishing skills, is powerful on the ball and so useful to run at players an finish well as well as winning the ball in the air. A tall player with useful all round stats will provide a strong challange in the air but still be able to act as a regular striker, not just a one trick pony.

Ive played with other player such as Zigic from Villareal. He doesnt offer much more than a strong head in the air. If a player does not have the technical skill required for a centre forward I would set him as either an Attacking Target man or as a Poacher. These will ensure that the player will stay central and not run the channels. Using a 4-2-3-1 system with two wingers will make sure plenty of balls will reach him aslong as you set him as you primary target man in the tactics section. Having a supporting AMC will also be useful as the striker will move into space to either recieve the ball or move a defender from the player and let him shoot. Also the AMC can provide balls for the wingers to cross.

In my current save, my lone striker is playing as a target man (A) and I have an AML and AMR both set as wingers (A) for support. I also have two MCs set as central midfielders (S) to help further support my attacks.

Since my target man is very good in the air, I have passing instructions set "to head" and I get a LOT of crosses into him that result in headers. I'm going to experiment with mixed passing instructions, however, because both of my strikers are also pretty solid with the ball at their feet.

Do you find that you are relying on your striker a bit much with this tactic? Just out of curiosity, how does it work for you? Well? I imagine your CM's wont get into the box too often, and your wingers will end up at the corner flag a lot? Do you get a lot of goals from having this one tall guy in the box?

I never like having a man alone up front. I always prefer two strikers working together or a supporting AMC to play the 'bergkamp' role of providing and scoring.

If I ever play with one man up front, say a 4-3-3 with a holding DM, 2 CM and 2 wingers, id like one if not both to play an inside forward role, or a winger who cuts in a lot.

One tactic that provides more options in my opinion is how i play my AMR. I have Theo Walcott; very fast but an average crosser. I set him to attacking winger, but then change crossing to 'Sometimes' and wide play to 'Normal.' He cuts in behind the full back more often now to recieve through balls, he'll cut in with the ball more and look to pull back for a player arriving late, but he'll still get a cross in when he beats his man. Hes been in blinding form for me using this tactic, 9 assists in 15 games, id highly recommend it to anyone. Same applies for the other wing obviously.

i haven't played with only one striker for ages.
but when i did i played a 4-5-1(1 DM, 2 CM, 2 wingers) with dzeko up front.
both CM set to advanced playmaker with attack duty, wingers set to attack duty.

it does work quite well, if you have a reliable striker up front.
i've had dzeko score an avg of 1.5gpg for three consecutive seasons, but if he has a bad day, you're almost screwed.

right now i usually play a 4-2-4, both CMs set to advanced playmaker with attack duty, my left winger usually is set to attack, my right one as inside forward(attack) since he has great finishing. one striker set as poacher, one as deep lying forward or trequartista(both attack duty). works out quite well for me =)

After playing with a strike tandem for so long, I actually like having a lone target man. Keep in mind that I'm playing in lower leagues (BSP right now), so my target man has a much easier time making space for himself. I can imagine that as defenses get stronger and more organized, I may run into problems.

You're right that our offense does rely pretty heavily on the target man. Towards the end of my attacking moves, a winger usually has the ball out wide and will cross the ball in. My target man usually heads it and sometimes plays the ball down and shoots it. If my target man doesn't make a play at goal, my mids usually get the outlet pass from the target man, recycle it back out to the wing, and the process starts over.

I've thought about setting up one of my wingers as an inside forward so he cuts inside more often, but they usually drift into space on their own. Another idea I'm thinking about is setting one or both of my central mids to attackers in order to encourage them to push forward into the box.

Playing 4-3-3, I always prefer a counter attacking team with lots of creativity in midfield and a solid defense.

CB x 2 - Pretty standard, just good players.

FB (Attacking) x 2 - I want full backs who will get in line for defending, but are happy to break when the counter is on. Also crosses are important no matter who they come from, especially if there is an inside forward infront of them who will drift in and leave space for crossing.

DM - Someone to sit back and hold. For Liverpool this honor goes to Mascherano purely for his ball winning skills and simple distribution.

Box-to-box Midfielder - Absolutely essential. Massive amount of stamina required, and workrate, but I love this kind of player. Hardy in defense, constantly harrasing anyone nearby. The best part is that this player usually arrives late in the box to put away pull backs, and provides great input all over the pitch.

Attacking Playmaker - Someone to sit back an help park the bus, but to be the main source of distribution when the counter is on. Through balls for the forward, or spraying to the wings and moving into a supporting position in the box.

Wingers/Inside Forwards - Standard. Depends what I have at my disposal, I enjoy having one of each and variety on the bench so if one doesnt work I have another option to replace.

Forward - Down to taste, an all round player is best here, but you can use lofted balls for target men and driven crosses for faster players.
