I have been playing FM20 Touch for a few months and I am in need of some advice, after it seems I failed hard. I have been reading guides and watching videos the last 2 days but it is hard to find answers to my questions, so I need your help.
Background.
I picked up a team from the lowest English league with the aspiration of winning the Champions Cup and the Premier League. And I did, 5 game years ago. And then I failed.
Currently in 2039, this is what happened the last 5 years. I won the CC in 2036 and 2037, then lost on the round of 16 two times in a row, and this year I finished 3rd in an easy group. Meanwhile, I have been winning the PL since 2036, and still being first, though not comfotably. So it seems I am really struggling in Europe. I also won the FA cup twice these years.
The way I play
I am using FMRTE to get the best regens when they are young, and train them to play in my future team. Currently I have the best player in nearly all positions, and my team has seen very few changes through the last 5 years. Basically when I first won the CL, I had a young team of avg age 23, and now most of them are still in my team and have better stats. That's why I don't get why I am struggling.
I have always used the same two tactics. Both preset. A positive 4-1-4-1 DM Wide Tiki Taka for difficult matches, and an positive 4-2-3-1 Wide Control Possession for the easy matches. I train my players based on the tiki taka roles. I usually dominate the games, but even with 28 vs 2 chances, I don't score much. Avg goals where 1.7 per game the last seasons. The only exception was this season, where so far my avg is 3 goals per game, yet I managed to score only 3 times in the group matches and finished 3rd.
So how can I find what I am doing wrong and struggle in Europe and Cups?
- Is the problem the specific tactics, or the fact that they are preset? Should I try the custom ones that have been posted?
- With the default roles/duties, most of my players are competent and a few accomplished on their roles. (Even though they have been trained and played there for 7-8 years) Yet they are the best for their position. Is this an issue?
- Should I stick with just 1 tactic, and just change the mentality depending on the match?
Since I play in Touch, I thought that having the best players available (188 avg CA) would make me unstoppable. Yet Schalke with an avg of 155 CA, has reached the last 3 finals, and won 2 of them..
