I think for looking for players you should use FM Assistent 10 or Gene Scout 10 and maybe use scouts.
For tactic I think you should use tactic that you most comftable like I really like tactic 4-4-2 and it works.

I used 4-4-2 for the first season and I won both the Serie A and the Italian cup. But the following season things got worst and I finished 10th on the table. Mostly it was due to my players having very poor conditions and lost so many games by giving away penalties. Otamendi was worse for me in the second season...

well when you have a successful tactic, and when it starts to fail. just alter it a bit. small changes are always good.

when i find 1 style of play for my team i stick with it forever. i just alter tactics slightly every now and then. you can try to make sure your tactics are getting the most out of the players or not.

Also i think try to not play with tired player. I usually never play with anyone below 95% in condition. when your team is fully fit they can work harder and give you that extra edge. especially in big matches its a big plus if everyone is around 100% and you can press a bit more work harder as they will probably be more motivated.
