GNK Dinamo Zagreb, commonly referred to as Dinamo, or by their nickname The Blues (Croatian: Modri) are a Croatian football club based in Zagreb. They play their home matches at Stadion Maksimir. They are the most successful club in Croatian football, having won twelve Croatian championship titles, ten Croatian Cups and four Croatian Supercups. The club has spent its entire existence in top flight, having been members of the Yugoslav First League from 1946 to 1991, and then the Prva HNL since its foundation in 1992.

Dinamo Zagreb were founded on 9 June 1945 in order to replace the three very popular Zagreb football clubs (HAŠK, Gra?anski and Concordia) which had been disbanded by the Yugoslav Communist Party following the end of World War II. Dinamo then entered the Yugoslav First League in its inaugural 1946–47 season, finishing as runners-up. In their second season in Yugoslav top flight in 1947–48 they finished as Yugoslav champions which was their first major trophy. The club won three more league titles and seven Yugoslav Cups before they left the Yugoslav league in 1991 amid the breakup of Yugoslavia and formation of the Croatian football league system.

Football and politic's

Amid political turmoil in the early 1990s the began club claiming direct lineage to pre-WWII clubs Gra?anski Zagreb and HAŠK. In order to reflect this in June 1991 it was renamed HAŠK Gra?anski and in February 1993 it was renamed again and became Croatia Zagreb. In February 2000 it reverted back to Dinamo. In 2011 club management increasingly began claiming that Dinamo is the direct descendant of Gra?anski (which had been founded in 1911) and in April that year decided to append the adjective "Gra?anski" to the club's official name, turning it into the present-day GNK Dinamo Zagreb (Gra?anski nogometni klub Dinamo Zagreb or Dinamo Zagreb Citizens' Football Club) and announced a grand celebration of the club's centennial.

Origins and early years (1945–1966)

Following its formation, the club entered Yugoslav First League in its first season after the World War II hiatus. In their debut Dinamo finished in second place, 5 points behind champions Partizan. Dinamo won their first silverware in the 1947–48 season, finishing first–placed in the Yugoslav championship with 5 points ahead of Hajduk Split and Partizan. In the 1951 season the club finished second–placed in the league, but compensated with their first ever Yugoslav Cup title, after they defeated Vojvodina 4–0 in the two–legged final. Dinamo later added three more cup titles (in 1960, 1963 and 1965) and two championship wins (in 1953–54 and 1957–58). In addition, they were also cup runners–up on three occasions (in 1950, 1964 and 1966). Dinamo first entered European competitions in the preliminary round of the 1958–59 European Cup, but were knocked out by the Czechoslovak side Dukla Prague. The club then had some success in the 1960–61 European Cup Winners' Cup, as they managed to reach the semi-finals where they lost to Italian side Fiorentina. They have also competed in the 1961–62 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, but failed to progress beyond the second round in which they were knocked out by Barcelona. However, in the 1962–63 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Dinamo managed to reach the final, but lost 4–1 on aggregate to Spanish side Valencia. The campaign included a sensational win against European giants Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the competition. In the 1963–64 European Cup Winners' Cup they made an early exit in the first round after a defeat to Scottish side Celtic. During this period many of Dinamo's star players were also integral part of the Yugoslavia national team, including Željko ?ajkovski, Dražan Jerkovi?, Ivica Horvat, Slaven Zambata and Rudolf Belin.

Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1966–1967) glory day's of Dinamo Zagreb

Three Yugoslav clubs went on to participate in the 1966–67 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, but they were knocked–out early in the competition, excluding Dinamo who went on to become the first ever Yugoslavian team that won a European competition. In the first round Dinamo played against Spartak Brno and after the aggregate score was 2–2, coin was flipped in order to determine the winner. Dinamo was through to the second round, where they were drawn against Scottish side Dunfermline. For the first time in the history of the cup the away goals rule were introduced, which helped Dinamo to qualify for the third round after the aggregate score was 4–4 (2–0 at home and 2–4 away). On their road to finals they defeated Romanian side Dinamo Pite?ti, Italian powerhouse Juventus and German side Eintracht Frankfurt. In the finals the club was draw to play its first match at Maksimir against Leeds United. Dinamo won 2–0 in front of the 33 thousand fans with Marijan ?er?ek and Krasnodar Rora scoring, which was enough to secure the title as the match at Elland Road finished 0–0.

Legend's of Dinamo Zagreb

Dinamo Zagreb's agony (curse)

The club subsequently participated five times in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008. However, they played against Milan, Dynamo Kyiv, Arsenal, Werder Bremen, Shakhtar Donetsk and failed to win a single match, losing 6–1 on aggregate to Milan, 5–1 on aggregate to Dynamo Kiev, Shakhtar Donetsk and Arsenal and 5–3 on aggregate to Werder Bremen. Since the qualifying rounds format changed, Dinamo was unable to get through to the play–off round, losing 3–2 on aggregate to FC Red Bull Salzburg in 2009.

11 (now 12) long year's we didnt see Champion's league...
For such a big club at „balkan“ that is something really rear so ive decide to take them into Champion's league!

Dinamo Zagreb as we said play's at stadium Maksimir who is built 1912 and has capcity of 37168 seat's.

Dinamo Zagreb have best youth academy in Croatia and provide lot's of great player's and football legends such as Stjepan Lamza, Slaven Zambata, Dražan Jerkovi?, Velimir Zajec, Zlatko Kranj?ar, Marko Mlinari?, Josip Kuže, Zvonimir Boban, Davor Šuker, Robert Prosine?ki, Igor Cvitanovi?, Eduardo, Luka Modri?, Niko Kranj?ar, Vedran ?orluka and lot more player's who moved from this club to bigest clubs in world.

Dinamo have lot of rival's such as Partizan Belgrade, Red Star Belgrade, Rijeka, Zagreb, Varaždin... But bigest rival is Hajduk Split... Our derby in Croatian league is called ETERNAL DERBY...

Board made it clear they want another league tittle this year

But our fan's are waiting for one moment for a long 11 years, for Champion's League. After a disappointing past season's we decide to bring European football back to Maksimir!

Board aim: Win Croatian league
Fan's aim: Qualify for Champion's league

Portugese 30yrs old center back came this season to Dinamo and with his experiance and leadership our defence is going to be lot better this season!

18yrs old Croatian hot prospect playing at right back, going lot to forward and try's with his great crosses to find our players in 16yrd box. Lot of club's have interes in young rb.

23yrs old Brazilian with Croatian nationality, player who is still in " own search " on the playground. A player who can solve game with one move, but with a lot of personal problems that are moving away this football genius from the field.

21yrs old Croatian midfielder who will be captain in our first season. Player who is mastermind in midfield, player who know's with ball, Dinamo Zagreb's kid and one of best prospect in Croatian football.

This player is fruit of hard work in Dinamo's young academy... 16yrs old player who is taunted to be one of bigest players in Croatian football ever, if he can continue to work hard he will easy pass Milan Badelj.

If we are going to win Croatian league and Qualify for Champion's league I've decide to strength our team in several position's, so I've decide to scout this three player's who are by my opinion needed at Dinamo:

That first paragraph came from Wiki didn't it?
# Yme : That first paragraph came from Wiki didn't it?

yes it is from wiki, they have best explained past of Dinamo on english :)

We scout our three player's and sign them in quick time, had little problem's with Bakambu and Pavel, Man.Utd. also bidded for him but at end first team contract with us was better then hot prospect in Man.Utd., also Dinamo Kiev wanted Pavel but i guess we offered more wage to him so he sign with us. Toloi was quite transfer and noone knew we sign him. My scout came to me with one player who was on free list Vladimir Yurchenko, all attributes was hiden so i've asked from my scout's to find out his stats and he was looking really good so also i've added him to our squad.

As u see our total amount of spent cash is 7.5M, board gave us only 4.6M at start of season so we manage to sign these player's on monthly instalments (48 months)

This was maybe not the best move but we needed those player's and hope we can qualify for CL and gain some money so we can get back in green with finances.

First game was inter-squad game against Dinamo u19.

This game was only to see who is fit and who will play were and also to see if there are some young prospect's in u19 squad.

Second game we playe'd against Hašk who is playing in Croatian league 2

Game we won without any hard work, we were whole time better team and u can see that with stat's at end of game, we try out some of our youngster's and they show us they can play ( Kovacic and Bilac)

Third friendly was against Nehaj...

I was surprised with result of this game and with many mistake's we made in whole game, we try out some new players and at end it was not so good game for us.

Friendly cup

We were playing friendly cup called Pirata in which are engaged Rapid Wien, Trabzonspor and Veracruz also.

First game semi-final's were against Rapid Wien

Really bad display from our team with lot of mistake's and without any real implementation in the attack, so that cost us defeat.

Second game was for third place against Trabzonspor

After Rapid game I was only hoping to get something better here and did not expect us to win so easy, great display from whole team and from our striker Fatos Beciraj who played first game for us.

Fourth Friendly against H. Tel-Aviv

We won this game in I was pleased that our new signins were good in this game and Yurchenko came as scorer.

The biggest problem has been observed in these preparatory match was physical fitness. Players were already in 60-70 minutes at 40% and it seemed very big problem for us if we want to make something more this season.

Dinamo has a lot of youth coaches but no first team coach, so I chose some of the youth coaches to offer a new contract to become first team coaches. Naturally selected agreed and now I have coaches who will do the training and intense with a touch of quality.
After we seen that our fitness is very low we decide to put the players at much more difficult and demanding training in order to get fit.

Our traning workload

DINAMO ZAGREB in Champion's league
