Michael Owen to retire at end of season

Stoke City forward Owen decides he will retire at the end of the season


Michael Owen scored on his Liverpool debut in May 1997
Stoke City striker Michael Owen has announced on his website that he will retire at the end of the season.

Owen, who started his career at Liverpool before playing for Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke, has scored 150 Barclays Premier League goals.

Following his professional debut and first goal for Liverpool at the age of 17 in May 1997, Owen played his first match for England in 1998 and went on to score 40 goals in 89 appearances for his country.

Owen, who is 33 years old, has scored once in the Premier League since joining Stoke this season.
