Big Sam Steps Down

Sam Allardyce has stepped down as the manager of West Ham United, it is reported that Big Sam will be taking a break away from the beautiful game now as he has non-football related issues, it is reported that he has severe health problems that need addressing and the stress of football management at this moment in time will not do him any good, The Hammers have wasted no time and it is reported that they already have the new replacement lined up and he will be revealed very soon.

A spokesman for the London club had this to say:

“On behalf of all of us here at West Ham, we would like to thank Sam for everything he has done during his spell here, we wish him the very best in the future and hope he can pull through this tough time, we urge the fans not to panic, we have a replacement lined up and we are set to reveal the man shortly, it will come as a shock to most but Sam sung this guys praises and we believe he is the man that can help take us to the next level”

The Call

It was a nippy night, I put on my coat and got in my car and set off to pick up mine and the Mrs’s food from chicken cottage I couldn't believe it, I was going to be the new West Ham United manager... My phone went off, unknown number? I just left it to ring and carried on my drive, it then rang a second time, I continued to leave it, I always thought if they didn't have the decency to show the number then why should I answer? It’ll probably be one of those bloody PPI scams saying that I’m owed ££££’s on a loan I've never even taken out, it rang a third time, so I pulled over to take the call...

Turns out it was the former manager Big Sam, he rang me and explained that he was an influencing factor in me getting the job, he put in the ‘good word’ he said, we exchanged banter and had a laugh, Sam was an old family friend of ours and he had heard that I had just received my UEFA A license and was able to manage at any level I wanted, he wanted to give me my ‘big break’ so to speak

I’d be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but Sam assured me that I had inherited a very talented set of players, capable of finishing mid table easily, which were the minimum expectations of Mr Sullivan, he gave me tips on how to handle the egotistic players, how to bring them back to earth if they get a little bit too big for his boots, who to look to for inspiration and who to look out for, one thing he did say that has stuck in my head is if I manage to keep Ravel level headed then I've got a gem on my hands, a similar thing was said to Sam when he signed Ravel from Sir Alex. Could I manage to tame him? Could I be a success? How was the fans going to react? All will be revealed in due time...
