Hey,

I've downloaded 2 versions from the last update email and both are coming up as having a virus or rootkit!

w32.trojan.gen seems to be the general one!

I'm using webroot.

Suggestions? Ideas? Anyone else?
That's absolutely impossible, Genie Scout doesn't contain any maleficent software, unless you had this virus on your PC and it infected GS. The 2nd possible reason is just false positive.
I'd say it is just a false warning, as Eugene (Genie) said
Trojan viruses are viruses on computers that can override programs (I believe) so your issue lies with your computer rather than Genie Scout.

I'm yet to read through so not sure how helpful this is, but this link may help remove your problem.
I hate trojans
This is not false.

I installed today, also hade my AV alarming for a trojans, in addition five spamware was also bundled into the genie installer.

w32.trojan.gen usually mean it was detected before installed. I just spent an hour cleaing viruses of my system.

I do no belive the virus is in the scout.exe it is in the .exe of one of the spamware bundled in your installer.
I can confirm that there is a trojan / virus bundled in here somewhere.

The creator absolutely needs to remove his program from this site, it's unacceptable to market this to people. Thankfully it's free, if I had paid I would demand my money back immediately.
Its not a Trojan believe me, I have run computers for over 10 years with no virus/spyware scanner, I know what I am talking about.

Virus/Spyware/Malware scanning programs mark a lot of software as being infected when it is not, obviously the more a program detects, the better it looks to people who don't understand how computers work.

When you install the free version of Genie it bundles a few pieces of software that collect your information for sales purposes. Most installers for free software include these nowadays to generate extra income. Try downloading some freeware from elsewhere, you will see the same thing.

If you don't want the software, simple turn off your protection and install.

Pay good attention to decline the questions, if you don't want the extra software.

You won't have any trojan/virus or spyware installed this way.
There is a trojan. I got it on a brand new laptop. Saying it's false is a joke.
