The Interview
I woke up the next morning in a good mood for once. I was starting my new job at
Bury and I think I'm starting to trust my dad a bit more. My dad borrowed me a suit since the clothes I had been wearing were my
only possessions. I walked to
Gigg Lane, Bury's ground with confidence. I headed for the reception where I met a beautiful young receptionist. No time to get her though, I had an interview.
“Hello, I'm Lloyd Reynolds, here for a meeting with Stewart Day.”
“Yeah, go on through!”
I winked at her as I walked through the door next to the reception. There was a meeting room with a long round table, surrounded by chairs. At the end was
Stewart and manager
Kevin Blackwell. Stewart indicated me to sit on one of the chairs. I sat and we started discussion.
“So, your father tells me that you are a very suitable candidate for the coaching job. It was a sad occasion when your father decided to leave but he tells us that you can do an even better job than him.”
“Well, I don't have any experience but I would love for the chance to work here.”
“Yes that is the main problem. No experience. I trust Chris very much but your qualifications are the biggest obstacle. Do have anything you would like to add Mr Blackwell?”
“No, I think you've covered everything.”
“OK then, Mr Reynolds, we will email you our decision within the next 24 hours. If you could leave the meeting room so me and Mr Blackwell can discuss our opinions of you.”
“Yeah OK!”
I left the meeting room a lot less confident about my chances then when I walked in. I left Gigg Lane, dropping my number on the receptionists desk. I walked home with all the possible outcomes whizzing through my head. My dad welcomed me home and agreed to lend me his laptop so I could check my emails. I sat there in bed for the remainder of the day waiting for an email. Eventually, deciding to give up, I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning a checked again. Nothing. I was so angry. Not only had I not got the job,
I didn't even get a reply.
But then,
I noticed the spam folder.
