Only PAOK stop us from qualifying for the Champions League

I've literally just gotten home from the airport and I'm exhausted..but I'm glad to say I came home with a win and I came home knowing that the Champions League is in reach and no longer a dream but slowly turning into reality.

Two days ago, the squad flew out to Belgium for our second leg match vs Zulte Waregem. With a two goal advantage, we were tipped to go through. I told the players to focus when defending but when attacking to be clinical as all we needed was one more away goal to put the game to bed. Zulte were fired up, after all we defeated them already and they wanted Champions League football as much as we do, to bad that only one team could advance to the next stage, and that team was Olympique Lyonnais.

It was a chilly evening in Belgium, so cold I had to wear my coat. Not the Arséne Wenger type coat but a thick coat to keep me warm. The stadium we played in was the biggest, wasn’t the best…I doubt it was UEFA standard but it wouldn’t affect us from playing our game and getting the job done.

I gave the team the exact same team talk as I did back in Lyon, because I wanted the exact same performance from them. Complacency wouldn’t be accepted here, if we were to lose this game and tie, we would only have ourselves to blame for not finishing it off, but I wasn’t prepared to go through all that stress, all they had to do is get the job done and score a goal.

Throughout the game we dominated, Zulte showed us far too much respect and it was almost as if they were playing with fear. It was something you normally see in Sunday league football where you have a team with midgets versus a team with giant muscular lads. Of course, we knew we couldn’t underestimate them, but it gave us extra confidence and we knew we could relax a bit.

After the tenth minute, Briand opened the scoring with a thunderous volley; it almost ripped the poor net. Lacazette chipped it up and he smashed it with the outside of his foot, a very good goal. From that point onwards, we only had half chances to score but at least we were keeping the ball and passing well. We had gotten that crucial away goal and now we could relax a bit.

Before I had even gotten out for the second half I could hear the home fans cheering and I saw the Zulte players celebrating. I asked Andre what happened, he told me Gonalons conceded a penalty and they scored but it was an arguable penalty. Arguable or not, I was a bit disappointed that we conceded a goal. By disappointment soon turned into joy as Benzia and Umtiti ramped in two clever goals to kill the game off. The game ended 3-1 to us but 5-1 on aggregate.

The draw for the next round was being shown in our hotel and I gathered all the players to watch it. There was one team that nobody wanted to play, that team was Arsenal. They’ve strengthened their squad greatly with the signing of Flamini and Ozil. Playing Arsenal would have been a disaster. We were the second last team to be drawn and all the other big boys, including Arsenal had been drawn. The squad let out a sigh of relief as we were drawn with PAOK. Just two more wins and we’re in the Champions League I told them, just two more wins.

Hope you can beat them !

Champions league, where we belong!

As I read the morning newspapers, the major headline in the sports section reads, "Lyon se qualifier pour la Ligue des Champions!". A smile comes upon my face, we did it, we qualified for the champions league. Those that said we couldn't, they've been shut up. Those that said we could, thank you for your kind wishes. It was easier than we thought it would be, but we did it and the club is going up and never back down.

The first leg being away from home is always an advantage therefore, the advantage was with us. Flying to Greece, we knew that we could wrap up the tie in one game due to the away goals rule, we just had to win with a good scoreline, and make sure we didn't concede...and that's exactly what we did.

The players stuck to the game plan and made everyone proud with their dominant performance. We won the game 3-0. Despite having such a large lead going back to Lyon, we still wanted to score more, to send a message out to Europe in advance that Lyon will soon be a force to reckon with.

In the second leg, we could play with a little less effort but I still demanded a good performance. We knew PAOK would come out and want to fight as to them, they could still get through. It was a thrilling match to watch, but we made sure we put the tie to bed in the 1st leg. The game ended 3-2 to us. I was sad to see PAOK players crying on the pitch and I order my players to console them but it's football, one team must come out on top.

One thing we are wary of is the Champions League group draw. We are bound to get one giant of European football in our group but we are prepared for whoever we are given. Beating a giant would help boost us on out track back to giant status.

Olympique Lyonnais are moving forward and never going backwards. We want to play beautiful football, get results and prove a point. The title "fallen giant" shall be Lyon's no more.
Great stuff to win so comfortably! CL football watch out for Lyon!
Congrats man. Hopefully you can go far.
3-2? 3-2? You can do better Seni ;)

A decent start to the campaign

So far my time at Olympique Lyonnais has been quite good,I've settled in well into France, I'm getting along with all my colleagues and players and the team is playing well, which is the most important thing. When creating the tactic, I was a bit scared that it wouldn't work but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Olympqie Lyonnais vs OGC Nice

0-0

We were not clinical at all in this match. As you can see, we had lots of shots yet we hardly got them on target, something we must work on in training. In order to get points, we must take all our chances.

Olympique Lyonnais vs Stade de Reims

4-1

A much better performance from our side. We looked a lot more dangerous and a lot more hungry to win, unlike in our first game. Our defenders had a very good game and also contributed when attacking. If we can play like this every game, we should do well this season.

Evian TG FC vs Olympique Lyonnais

2-4

Once again, a very good victory for our side and another three points, this time away from home. If we can go away and get at least a point each time, it will really help us. Alexandre was brilliant today and I can see him developing into a world class player in the future.

League Table

We are currently lying in 7th place right now but I'm not concerned. A few other teams are on 7 and the other are on 9 points. We should move up the table by next week.

Good match !
OGC Nice, had pretty good luck with your game. Good luck !

Deadline day deals

Deadline day is a very busy day for all managers. Its like mothers on Christmas eve trying to do their last minute shopping, managers are trying to do their last minute signings and players can depart to. Unfortunately, Gomis will not be leaving the club in this summer transfer window as no club is interested in him. I still have faith in Gomis and believe he can score goals for us this season, but he is no longer guaranteed a starting position in the squad.

Throughout the day, I've been sitting at my laptop screen banging away at my keyboard, emailing different clubs trying to sell and buy. Suddenly one email pops up and it has the urgent mark, great:

Brilliant news for the club. You see our first team goalkeeper, Rémy Vercoutre will be out for a very long time with his injury, and I felt we needed experience in that position. Pinto will fit in perfectly and his experience will help.

Only one player departed the team today, that player is Yoann Gourcuff for 3.5 million to PSV. No doubt he is a quality player but he just doesn't fit in with my plans here at Lyon. The youth here is key, even if Gourcuff was to stay, he would spend most of his time on the bench which is bad for the club's finances. On behalf of Olympique Lyonnais, we wish him all the best.

Now I've got the Champions League group draw to look forward to, which teams we will get, we'll just have to wait and find out.
Guys I'm fed up, I really am fed up. Once again I've been screwed by windows 8. If you think I'm lying, check this out and you'll know its a common thing.

While I am in a game, my laptop decides to restart and install updates, without me asking for the updates. After what happened with Arsenal I made sure the autosave stuff is on but the last autosave is way too far back and so it ruins everything.

I can confirm that I WILL NOT write another FM14 story, but thanks to all those who supported my writing.
Sorry about your story. It was that Bill Gates twat. Fuck him.
