News has broke today that AC Milan have sacked Head Coach Massimo Allegri.
Rumours have been circulating in the last couple of weeks that Allegri had fallen out with several of the first team players when the returned for pre season training last week & Milan have decided to terminate the coaches contract for
‘The future of the Milan family’.
It is alleged that Allergi commented on last year’s failure to get close to eventual Scudetto winners Juventus, apparently calling many of the senior players Mercenaries who care more about their wages than their success, It boiled over further after French defender Phillipe Mexes was caught on hidden microphone while speaking to a journalist saying
‘He Allegri blames us players for being 17 points behind Juve last season, He blamed each player individually, telling us we could only dreaming of being the Milan of old! Ricco (Captain Montolivo) stood up for us, he challenged the coach, yes we take responsibility he told him, but you are also to blame! You were late to training some days, the preparation was a joke & player management non-existent!
That is when the manager flew at Ricco he grabbed him around the neck, was screaming at Ricco until Christian Abbiati intervened, In all my years as a professional I had never seen anything like it!”
Mexes has since been fined for his comments by the club, Allegri was summoned for a meeting with the board where word his comments about last season escalated towards the board stating a lack of ambition & commitment.
So is AC Milan a club in turmoil at the moment...?
Not drastically.... Yes other clubs like Juventus, Napoli, Roma & Fiorentina have shown a lot of ambition in the transfer market but Milan unlike their neighbours Inter are still set to play in this year’s Champions League so all is not that bad for the Black & Reds.
Allegri leaves after just under 3 years in charge, he took over in 2010 from departing boss Leonardo & led the club to the Scudetto in his first season, but finishing 15 points behind winners Juventus last year as well as his pre-season antics have left the club with no other choice.
Club Director Barbara Berlusconi today said "Milan wish to communicate that Massimiliano Allegri and his staff have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect," read a club statement. "Milan would like to thank Mr Allegri and his staff for the work done and their best professional achievements."
“a disappointing season last year & as well as off field issues confirms that a change is both necessary and urgent with the contribution of everyone concerned.
"It's no longer tolerable that our fans participate in performances like these of last season or the behaviour we have seen from AC Milan representatives in previous weeks."
The bookmaker’s favourites to take the job are former striker Flippo Inzaghi, Roberto Di Matteo & former Watford boss Gianfranco Zola.
