I been looking for a darn job for ages now. "a no from cardiff, a no from plymouth a-- ahh what's this?" I opened up the email from Chesterfield F.C. and to my surprise
the Chairman, Dave Allen, wanted me to come in for an interview. Was this my chance? Was I going to be hired as the new manager of Chesterfield?

Two days Later...

I arrived at Dave Allens office for the day of my interview and knocked on his door "Hmm? Come in!" I opened the door, and there he was. He stood up from his desk so

I walked over and reached to shake his hand "ahh Mr. Bassett I believe?" our hands then met as he also reached out to shake my hand. "Take a seat" I done what he said
and sat on the silk chair in front of his desk "Thanks" Dave then sat down and picked up a piece of paper, Most likely my resume..

"So it seems... You have no managerial experience at professinal level, so why do you think we should hire you?"

"Well as a rookie manager I believe I would have a lot to learn yes, and I believe Chesterfield would be the best start for me to seal a hopeful legacy"
He picked up a pen and began writing it down...

"If Hired what philosophies would you wished to be judged on?"
"I would hope to be able to develop first team players from the youth squad, as I believe looking towards the future is the best option"

"However as you have pointed out you are a rookie manager and Chesterfield are aiming to finish in at least third this season, do you believe you can do that"
I took a big pause before speaking again...

"Yes, I believe that is a reasonable expectation, something I believe I can achieve"
Dave Allen smiled and stood up, "Then without further a do I welcome you as the new Manager of Chesterfield F.C."

"Oh my god thank you! I won't let you down, and that's a promise"
Dave Smiled again, "You best not Mr.Bassett, for now though were tying you down to a one year contact with £1,600 per week. If you can come back tomorrow to meet
the squad that would be fantastic!"

I Nodded and shook Daves hand before leaving, finally! A job! I must prove i'm worthy to be manager otherwise I'm a huge let-down!

The Next Day...

"Ahh Mr.Bassett I would like you to meet you're assistant manager Jack Field, his new to the business just like you as the other assistant manager was not comfortable
working under a rookie manager, i'll get going and let you both get acquainted"

I turned to see Dave walk off towards his office before turning back around to my assistant manager

"Nice to meet you Mr. Bassett, i can't wait to work alongside you,
if you need anything feel free to come and talk"

"Same to you Jack. Now. Lets go and meet the squad shall we?"

We both walked to the locker room where the squad was all sitting. Except one person. The captain, Ian Evatt.
"Hello team, for those who don't know, I'm the clubs newest manager, Mike Bassett. Besides me being new to management I believe we can push for promotion this year"

The squad all looked happy about my answer except Ian, "I think you're being too ambitious"

The team looked puzzled, and to be honest so did I... "I stand by what I said, now that concludes this meeting"
Everyone left the locker room seeming fine with what I said, Ian however seemed to have more to say

"I still believe you're being to ambitious, I believe also my
progress is going to be hindered at this club due to your inexperience in management"

There is always one problem player on the team. But I will. Oh I will, Gain his trust.

Obviously it's not just Ian I need to get on my side, What about the media? The media critize me due to my lack of experience. Defiantly need to shut them up,

I called the team in today to let them know what's going on in our upcoming friendly match against Swindon Town. I need to show the team I'm prepared!

"Team I will be using a tactic I have been experimenting with it's a Fluid 4-4-2 tactic which will focus more on the attacking side of things... Any questions? No?
Okay then lads let's get going!"

For my starting line-up I decided to test out a few players who I believe can pull me a win on my first friendly, the starting line-up but I was not yet decided on
the bench, Unfortuantly i'll be playing two of my players In positions they struggle in, but I need to take the gamble.

Before going into the match i told the team places were up for grabs. Once it started we had a bad start, Liam Cooper who was wearing the captain band for todays match missed-kicked the ball allowing them to
take the lead on the 30th minute. We however bounced straight back with a goal of our own on the 31st minute by Armand Gnaduillet. I subbed quite alot of players
off in the friendly so I have see some of the others perform, but I think this subs may have been the result of us conceding our second goal, A strike from Miles
Storey on the 84th Minute to make the final score 2-1 in my first friendly as manager of chesterfield. I told the team not to worry as it was only a friendly.

A week later we travelled off to Hereford for our second Pre-Season game, this time I was planning on giving some youth players a go, one of which was seventeen year
old goalkeeper Cameron Mason and striker Jacob Hazel.

Jacob and Cameron are among the youth players featuring against Hereford

Now this, this was a match I am pleased to of won. We got off to a fantastic start Eoin Doyle knocking one in on the 5th minute. Already 1-0 Up! Didn't have to wait
long for another goal however as Jimmy Ryan followed it up with a goal. 2-0. And in quick succession 3-0! Gary Roberts pops one in on the 13th minute!
Now Eion scores a second! 4-0! At half timeI let the team know we can play without pressure due to our solid lead.
Whistle blows for the second half, Hereford with a goal to make it 4-1 after a solid volley from Chris Sharp, 48th minute. And would you look at this!?! My team
are making me proud today with a quickfire goal to turn the score into 5-1! Well done Mr. Marc Richards! Now Chris Sharp with a second goal on the 63rd minute
to make the score 5-2, not to worry, I think we have the game in the bag... Now Dan Walker with a superb freekick to turn the score into 5-3. I wouldn't celebrate
yet though, Jamie Devitt scores and makes it 6-3! What a game by the team, they played AMAZING today.

Now that's two friendlies out the way, only two left to deal with, both games I've been without Ian, hopefully I can gain his trust back in the next two friendlies...
(Screenshots I took wouldn't work so I need to fix that very soon!)
A nice start so far, not bad for a first attempt mate, if you keep improving your graphics then you could be onto something here mate, great structure in the writing too I like it, good luck :)
@BatamsBanter thank you for the feedback :)
Keep up the good start!
Oooo, the famous 'Four four fucking two' formation I see?;)
@Jamesg237 Thanks mate! and @AaronHJFT96 indeed, can't be Mike Bassett without a 4-4-2
it was now time for our next friendly match, Bolton. They were two leagues above us but I believe the team can cause an upset. The team luckily were still in high
spirits after defeating Hereford, but back to the Bolton Match, To no avail, we took quite a thrashing from them with the match ending 4-0. David N'Gog opened up
the scoring with a massive strike on the 6th minute, then Zat Knight on the 22nd minute-- To be honest.. I don't really give a fuck about the result so Let's move on.

"Ian is here to see you Mr. Bassett" I looked up from my desk and saw my secondary standing there along with Ian Evatt. "Ahh Ian, can I help you?" Ian walked towards
my desk and took a seat, slouching in the chair, defiantly not looking very professional, he took a dip breath before letting any words out, "Alright Mike, I know
we haven't really been on the best of terms but I just want to let you know i'll give a 100% to you and the club when I'm back from injury" i was pleased with what
I said but I haven't even seen him play or seen him at training!

"That's great but your'll have to prove yourself to ME before you get any first team time" He sighed and looked to the left "Fine, If thats what it takes... I'll
step up my game" he stood up and walked towards the door "I'll see you later" then he was gone. Hopefully his injury fixes up fast, I believe he can stake for a first-
team sport fast.

Now our final friendly a small english team called Matlock Town. Should be a fairly easy one. We won as I expected but come on? Only 2-1? quite a disappointing team
considering that they aren't even in a league. But now all the pre-season games are done, Preseason was pretty average, Now I just need to hope for the season to be
a good season if I want to get chesterfield promoted. I think I deserve a small break, so do the team. Pre-season is done and I need them fresh ready for the season.
