David Moyes Declines The Offer To Succeed Sir Alex
It has today been revealed that David Moyes has magnificently rejected the offer to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at the Theatre of Dreams. The Glazer’s are reported to have offered the Scot a mega 6 year deal worth an estimated £48 million.
Having announced his departure from Everton FC after eleven years just last week, it was expected the move had been made to order to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, with Manchester United having been without a manager for three weeks. Fans were excited, the media were raring, and players were looking forward to working under a new manager. Nevertheless, with Moyes rejecting the contract from the Red Devils, the future of the Manchester giants is unknown, as is the future of David Moyes.
Malcolm Glazer, owner of Manchester United Football Club, released an official club statement on the club website today, reading:
“Following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, we can confirm the club made an official approach for David Moyes following his resignation from Everton Football Club. We can also confirm David Moyes’ departure from Everton was not related to our club, and we are yet to speak to any other managers. A contract in the region of 6-years was turned down by Mr. Moyes, and we will continue our hunt for a new manager. We will not announce a manager quickly, and want to ensure the new managerial staff will benefit the club and are of our best interests.”
Fans have been quick to release their views on who they think will replace David Moyes. Jose Mourinho is a potential candidate, despite his move to Chelsea FC due to be completed within the coming days, with Andre Villas-Boas another Premier League manager linked to Old Trafford. Sky Bet have released their odds on the new manager, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leading at 3/1, Jupp Heynckes close behind with odds of 5/1, and Mike Phelan completing the top three with 11/2.
With pre-season friendlies approaching in the next week, a manager will have to be announced soon with Mike Phelan announcing he will not be taking over pre-season fixtures as an assistant manager. Could it mean he will be the manager for the coming season?
