Impossible to play!!! :'(

I have been playing this game since release day and have had every game for the past 7 years. But on 2014 I am the closest i have ever been to deleting it altogether and going away!
I have never been an excellent player but i have always been proficient. I manage middlesbrough and in every previous connotation of the game have done well with them, however on 2014 its no dice!!

No matter what I do, i keep getting torn to shreds after the first 3 games of the season, they usually go well enough and then BOOM no matter what i do i get destroyed every game, recently the results have been 4 - 1 defeat to yeovil, a 4 - 1 defeat to huddersfield and a 4 - 1 defeat to sheffield wednesday, that is after dominating leciester and winning 2 - 0 and dominating charlton and winning 1 - 0.

Somebody please for the love of god help me before I quit forever, ahhhhh!

Did you take a look at the training schedule? Morale? These kind of stuff play a small role sometimes..
And yes you are right, things in FM14 is SO MUCH DIFFERENT to other FM versions.. It's very hard to find/create a 100% winning tactic.
Also try to use the opposition scout report and try to find out their weaknesses and try to take the advantage

I just don't understand the anomalous result like losing 4 - 1 to the teams 24th and 22nd in the championship when I am 2nd. Baffles me. I do think this is the most disappointing FM game i have ever played sadly.

MY oposition scout reports are pretty useless, it says every team is weak at set pieces, so i train that pre-match and then just end up having to defend for the whole game, and when i do get a corner they are massivley over hit going straight out, from a players with 19 corners.

It happens.. I once lost to Stoke 3-0 with Arsenal in my own save heh..
Just keep tweaking things around and try different things, hopefully you will get out of that phase.

TIP: Use the opposition scout reports to know more about the team you are playing against, for example you can know who is their top assister or goal scorer (so you can keep an eye on them during the match), you can also know what is the most suitable formation to use against them and too many other good stuff. It's something that might be overlooked by some people, google more about it and hopefully it will help you more

Cheers mate, I will see if I can get some results from somewhere, i used to fine players and tell them they were playing bad a lot but players seem more stroppy and tetchy on this than previous versions haha.

The 14.3 update has improved this game for me.

Fining players isn't really effective in FM. I suggest you try your best to boost morale for every game. Morale has a big say so in whether a player has a good game or not. You will even notice it if his morale is on superb compared to very good. So if you fine a lot then I'm guessing it usually makes morale get worse. Have private chats with th players who aren't doing well e.g. a striker who isn't scoring, tell him he hasn't scored many lately but you have faith in him.

Team talks are also a great way to boost morale and so are team meetings. If a player has a good game, praise him. if he has a bad one then maybe just ignore it to avoid the risk of decreasing his morale.


If you have already tried to alter the tactics, don't keep changing them if you don't see a difference straight away. It takes a long time for a team to get used to your tactics and play style and if players are coming in and out then it can make it even longer. Just have patience and I'm sure things will get better.

I used to find it very effective but it seems to have gotten less so over the last few games, the problem I find is that i start of with the rep of a sunday league footballer ( i know there are debates about whether this affects the difficulty of the game at bigger clubs or not ) i struggle with team talks as players don't think i have the experience and other such things but i suppose it is something that will be over come eventually ha.

Just can i stand being crushed by poor teams for that long is all.

The lower your starting reputation, the harder it is to motivate your players. So, with morale being so important in this game, you're kind of missing out on a good chance to make the most of it until you win some trophies and build that reputation.

Well the season is over and i finished 1 place and 2 points outside the play off spots, one thing i have noticed is that I concede in literally every other game literally within two or three minutes of the half starting, no matter what i say to my players, now this is very very irritating as it destroys the players morale every game, another new poser for the to find the solution to i suppose.

As the others have said, WEIRD stuff happens on that game. My friend had an Arsenal save. He beat Spurs 6-0 away but was sacked in the next game because he lost 8-0 to Aston Villa.

I finished 10th in my first season with Sheff Wed, then the start of the second (with 3 pre season wins under my belt) lost 8 (some heavily) and draw 2 which i really should of lost.

Take the players into a meeting, tell them straight your not happy with them, and they will understand as its them putting in the bad performances, then hopefully they will go out and put a show on for you !

i have the same problem i've literally wasted my years cuz of this game and this 2014 version really sucks there is no way winning without getting a goal or when the opponents take a freekick or corner they always score u cant possibly avoid it.i know all of the tactics and everything but it's still the same!a player from 3rd league can easily destroy all of ur mid,def players and score like Messi:P it's really bulshit,those players overalls doesn't mean anything and they never develop!!!

I feel like a lot of you expect to have undefeated seasons right out of the gate.

What is the point of a game if it is too easy? There is a lot to learn, and this game has more than one variable to bring you to victory. Learning to manage and understand those variables is where the fun is. Then once you start smashing everyone in your way, the game starts to lose flavor.

Simmer down, and enjoy the journey.

Im find the same thing with watford. Its an absolute joke.

I watch a game that we are winning and then, poof, we get hammered. You can see it happening on the pitch. The ball will get played forward, your two central defenders will stop running, stand perfectly still and the opposition will run right past and score. You midfielders will literally turn around and run in the opposite direction from the ball. You forwards will stand in the 6 yard box, shoot, and hit the corner flag.

Oh, just lost again. 1-0 up until the 80th minute, now I lose 3-1. Goals at 80,83, 89.
