Victor Pi?urc? did this morning something what probably no one expected: he resigned from being Romania's Head-Coach. He announced that he has something to say since last evening, when he told some journalists that he'll hold a press conference.
As a player, the 56-year old Coach won with Steaua the European Cup in 1986, the European Supercup in 1987, and was semifinalist in the same competition losing to Benfica in 1988. During the 1988-89 season the team reached again the European Cup final, but loses to Milan. As for domestic performances, Pi?urc? won the championship with Steaua Bucure?ti five times and the Romanian Cup four times. At the end of the 1987–88 season he was the top scorer of Liga I and won UEFA's Bronze Boot.
As a coach, he first managed Romania since 2004 until 2009. Considering Romania's extremely poor performances in 2008 and 2009, the Romanian Football Federation released Victor Pi?urc? from his job from the Romania national team on 9 April 2009. A few weeks later, R?zvan Lucescu was appointed as his successor. In 2010, he had two short spells as manager at Steaua Bucure?ti and Universitatea Craiova. On 14 June 2011, he returned for a third spell in charge of the Romanian national team.
"Considering the fact I feel that I'm no more wanted here, I have decided to resign from this position. I only want to say that I'm proud for having the chance to manage a team like our National Football Senior Squad and I officially announce that I mutually broken the contract with our Football Federation. Good luck, Romania! Good luck to the coach who'll take my place!"
These were Pi?urc?'s departing words after leaving Romania National Team.
Who's gonna take his place at Arena Na?ional?? Say tunned, we'll provide news soon!
