Reja Stands down from Lazio post
Manager Edoardo Reja has been stepped down from his post at S.S. Lazio. Reja joined the Serie A team in 2010 from Croatian team Hajduk Split. Since Reja took over the Rome club have had a rise and fall in league positions, finishing 5th in the 2010/11 season, 4th in the 2011/12 but after falling back down to 7th last season Reja has announced that he can no longer further the team.
"I've had a good stint at Lazio and I've really enjoyed my team here, the fans have been behind my back as well as the players. I would like to thank you all but I believe it is time to move on in my career, I believe that I can no longer progress and push this team forward and believe it is time for a younger manager with new ideas, to come in and revamp the team" Said Edoardo in the press-conference.
Edoardo has managed a lot of teams over his long career, including reputable teams such as Bologna, Lecce, Torino, Genoa, Catania, Cagliari, Napoli and Hajduk. At the age of 67, however, it looks like this list will not be getting any larger. Lazio president Claudio Lotito has announced that the Edoardo's replacement is only a signature away and that the next manager could be revealed very soon. Claudio did not mention any names but he has dropped hints that it is a new manager with no previous managerial experience but he will be a very familiar face to Lazio fans. "I believe that the next head coach is indeed close to signing but I don't want to say anything that may put him off" expressed Claudio.
There have been many rumours that Spaniard Gaiska Mendieta maybe the new manager joining Lazio but others believe that Alessandro Nesta should be named. All we know for certain is that in 24 hours time Lazio will be making a huge gamble.
